You make a good point, Arj0n. The lighting is not quite finished in any of the pictures so far. As the game progresses, I hope to finalize lighting and shadows so they make more sense.

Thaks for the kind words, Zenger!  :)

Finally! I've been itching to announce this, so here it goes:

90% of the graphics for a PLAYABLE DEMO are done, and I think I can get to scripting and coding the demo in the coming weeks. I am hoping to release the demo wihtin two months time, so keep an eye on the thread! The demo will act as a prologue chapter for the main game, so it should give you a good idea on the gameplay without taking away any actual gameplay or story from the main game.

Thanks again to everyone for being so supportive! Here, have a new screenshot!

If the author loses his game and does not have backups, then that is the author's problem, end of that line of argument right there.

And no matter how much you argue how "FREE games created with a FREE tool" should be far less of a problem than, say, a commercial game, the fact is that even if the developer tool is free and the game is playable for free, its creation was not "free". The author makes a huge personal investment of time and effort to create a game, and no one should have the right to alter that creation in any way without the original authors consent.

The translations should remain locked and the original author's consent should be required by default. A way to unlock your game to translations in AGS would not be a bad thing, even in this thread some have shown they would gladly allow free translating of their games, but this should not be the default.

To me, translations are welcome in my games, but I will definitely want to know what translations are being made, and would want to hear from the translator during the creation process of the translation, as well as be able to check the translation on my side before releasing it.

Every translation I release for my games I read through using google translate or similiar tool, and if I see something striking me as odd, I will contact the translator and ask for explanation first and only then release the translation.

If the developer of the game is unable to or unwilling to update and maintain his game, that is his decision. If he doesn't answer e-mails or doesn't use the e-mail anymore and has not updated this information, then he has not given a permission to alter OR improve his creation, thus it should not be done.

If you really want to improve or translate his game, you will keep dilligently bombarding him, or any developer, with e-mail and other communication until you get a response or accept the fact that there will not be one.

I understand that it seems a bit cold and unforgiving, but if you can't be sure the original developer accepts what you are doing, you are basically going against their will by default.

Ultimate bottom line and my last word about the matter: if you do not have explicit permission, then you should NOT do it! If the developer does not give permission, then he loses potential players, but this is a tradeoff I believe many developers are willing to take.

I'll try out gameboy's idea of lightening up the black outlines of the van, as well as adding some detail to the wheels. Will probably post tomorrow.

Little tweaking:
- Updated the taillights of the peugeot
- Made both cars just a tiiiny bit bigger
- Added dirty versions of both vehicles

If the russians have a right to release their games with no or extremely poor translation (see: Pathologic), then I beliebe everyone else should have that right too.  :D

On a more serious note: if the author of the game wants to make the game available to a wider audience, that is the author's decision. While I am open minded (one of my games was released in 5 languages, and I can only read two of them, so no way to actually check the translations), I would be very angry if people modified without my consent.

As long as I have a right to decide who gets to make the translations, I can at least send them a nasty message if there is negative feedback, but if anyone can do the translations, I lose control over my creation.

Sorry for rambling, but I wanted to give my two cents on this matter.

This being the critics lounge, I guess you know what I want. Tear me a new one, will ya!?
This is my first pixellated vehicle, I drew it based on a 3D model of a van. Will post a second vehicle later this weekend.

EDIT: Heck, decided to add a version 1 of the other car as well. This is the one the main character drives, a -99 Peugeot 406. Why a -99 406 you ask? BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST CAR EVER! THAT'S WHY! SHUT UP!

I guess I have to admint the GUI was a harebrained afterthought... I promise to do better next time, though!
Also: I just like to keep the { and } (squigglies as I call them) in as I'm used to tracking my code through them.
Anyway: holy crap, you actually took a look at the code!? That was slightly unexpected, to be honest!  :D

Awesome! love the format!  :)

Released a new background, which is participating in the backgroun blitz competition. Enjoy.
At the moment I'm pushing up roughly two backgrounds a week, will try to keep it up and will keep posting stuff to keep up motivation.

Hahaha! Sounds familiar. I'm just planning my first attempt at leaving Finland and visiting some other countries. I also recommend you visit some other areas than Rovaniemi area. The whole town of Rovaniemi, and the surrounding region, are huge on tourists and thus are extremely expensive on EVERYTHING.

The Santapark thing is a Finnish in-joke. They dug a huge cavern in the bedrock in there, and built a part of the part within. However, people who worked the site say that they actually dug over three times the amount of rock needed to build the park that is open to visitors. So what is the other two thirds of the cavern used for? Hmmmm...

A dark, forgotten mansion in the middle of the Scottish countryside. The young nobleman who built the house in the late 1920's was a man who knew the value of knowledge. He gathered books from all over europe, and built a quite formidable collection. Some of the books he hid in his own office, while others he displayed in the small library he had had built into the house. Here his guests could peruse the less rare, but still valuable texts at their leisure.

Room shown here in 2x size. Is to be used for a 320x200 game and will scroll a little as player moves around.

Competitions like this give a good jolt for me to get my creative juices flowing. I need to push out two rooms per week minimum to meet my deadline, and thanks to this competition I got this one done in a day!

Sorry Monkey, Santa Park in Rovaniemi is actually mostly an underground military bunker, and not the underground amusement part the ads say. =(

I humbly suggest we hijack this thread and turn it into a general "Finland = Winland" thread. Feel free to troll and disagree, if you dare! Dare you, dare you, double dare you!

I'm off to sauna right about NOW!

A slow day at work, so I had good time to waste looking up the dates and stuff.  ;)

Depends on whether your fabled Digi-box is connected via cable or antenna.
If you have cable connected one, you might get the eurosport channels, which are apparently airing "under 17 year old's women's soccer championship". If this is what you are talking about.

If not, you'll probably be stuck with the national TV, and according to a  forum post I found  they are only "showing a total of 5 matches, and two have already gone". Apparently the remaining ones are the semi-finals (13.07), the bronze match (16.07) and the finals (17.07).

Being near Rovaniemi, it is more likely you'll be stuck with a lousy antenna box, so I fear you might be out of luck there... :(

"Welcome to Finland, we don't watch no darn soccer! WE WON THE GODDAMN HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS! *fist pump*  :D"
