Oh. I thought this thread is about the new Twilight movie.
Now that IS scary shit!

Got a little idea, will participate. Interesting theme that you don't see too often nowadays, so it got my attention!

GameStop just called me an hour ago, I will pick it up tomorrow, first thing in the morning.
I even took a day off from work for the chewing-gum-fuelled-ass-kicking which shall ensue!

Hail to the king, baby!

General Discussion / Re: Voice control

The only good use of the microphone I have seen was in the Nintendo DS version of Resident Evil. You had to literally blow into the microphone to blow out some candles. It felt cool and added a nice touch to the game, and it didn't fail to work if you blew too slowly, or too fast, or in the wrong tone or with an accent, like all other voice control ever created.

"Dinner's ready, dear!"

"Just a minute, mom!"

"What was that noise? Are you playing your videogames again, dear?"

"Y-Yeah! I'll be- I'll be just a minute!"

"Are you going to help mommy with housework again today?"

"Yeah! I could vacuum again?"

"That's a good boy, dear! Your father would be proud!"

"Thanks mom! I'll be up in a sec! I just need to... finish this... game..."

Idea: Alan v.Drake (Unexpected and original)
Atmosphere:  Alan v.Drake (I'd shit my pants if I saw that happen in real life)
Design:  gameboy (love the night sky)
Composition:  Alan v.Drake (The detail, the door, the doll, the hands, the pale light... wow)
Functionality:  Creed Malay (Enough room for a character to move and clearly defined doorways)
Technique: gameboy (Solid and smooth style throughout, pleases my eye)

Looks like my bribe money has gone to good... I mean that's really too bad, that such a thing happened. Calin should be more mindful of his duties!

Tee-hee!

Ignore the bitch, stop answering the phone or messages. They were gifts, they cannot be demanded back due to a change of heart, and even if she tells the police you stole them, she still needs to prove she owns them in the first place. Hard to do without receipts etc.  ;)

Even the old website and the resources available there are good and functional. A more polished look would probably do good, but I don't see it as a critical thing, and I believe others might feel the same, which might explain the lack of excitement on that front.

A more pressing matter, in my opinion, is the Ratings Panel. I've noticed that new ratings are handed down at a very slow rate, but I hadn't realized the situation there was as poor as Mods describes here. Then again, it's hard to demand results when the work doesn't pay a dime, and it hasn't been too long since the panel was last berated for "unfairness" on the boards, so some people might have gotten discouraged back then as well...

@TheRoger
I don't think adventure games are dying any more than I believe the world is coming to an end. There have been, and will be, ups and downs. Seeing how many games are being released in the community, and how many more are being developed at a fair pace, I doubt there will be an end in sight for a good while at least.

I just couldn't keep my mouth shut about this!
Two-thousand-downloads! In under 100 days! Holy crapsickles!

Also: Not making a GIP thread just yet, but a new game project "Mansiongame" is in the works already, as some might have spotted in the Critics lounge, and I am hoping to get the game properly underway and a thread started in a few weeks from now!

In addition: I PROMISE to make a sequel to LaSol. I owe you people that much!  ;)

"Look honey, I think we can stay here!"

"You sure? I don't like the look of that place..."

"Oh come on, at least its not abandoned like that last place, look, someone's watching TV up there."

"Did you see that?"

"What?"

I have to admit I used a reference pic. I wasn't sure if this is acceptable or not, so I decided to mention it. The original pic is here: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3026/3053712722_c59566b444.jpg

Didn't quite get it done as well as I would have liked, but I got some new inspiration to work on an actual game, so I'm still pleased.  :)

Progress is slow, but it's there. Since two of the entries are animated so far, I thought of adding a little animated element myself. Let's see how it works. I'm hoping to be able to post my pic on saturady.

What?

I'm already working on some haunted backgrounds, so participating in this would be some great practice. I'll start working on a BG today.
Will a motel do?

Third misread about a board game. I got my hopes up for an AGS themed boardgame... =(
#2257
Hey! I had forgotten about old GameMaker! I think I tried it around 2004 and didn't understand a think back then. Nowadays it might be a different story!  ;D

This may not be the best place for this, if you agree, I apologize. Otherwise:

I'm thinking of jumping ship, or at least puttin one foor out of the AGS ship to test the waters. I feel like I should try some other tool than AGS to create a simple game engine of my own, and create some kind of adventure game based on that.

I've been pondering about Java as the basis to use, since I have some slight experience of it from my education years, but the internet has mostly mean things to say about Java as a platform for anything.

Any suggestions? Experiences? What would be a good platform / language to start learning nowadays?

Thanks Moshboy!

I'm hoping to use some of the elements from this game in my future projects, so I think I will be able to grant your wish some day.  ;)

I think the games page needs to be changed so that the give feedback has a big animated .gif button, so people might notice it and use it. At the moment only a very select few games seem to get a lot of feedback and reviews, while most struggle to get even the five sets of votes requited to see an average score.  :(
