Sorry for posting trash, but I needed to get this out of my system:

YEEEEEAAAAAHHHH! I LOVE AGS!!!
I just figured out, after hours of ALMOST clicking "post" on the beginners technical questions section on three separately written posts, how structs and arrays of structs work!

My god! This is better than sex!

I think I need some tissues or something, here...

EDIT: HOLY CRAP I WON THE MAGS! I can't believe it! Thank you to all who voted for LaSol and thank you for playing!
EDIT: HOLY CRAP! I got pick of the month! This is the  best day of my life!
EDIT: HOLY CRAP! Special edition released, check Mirror 1 from the games page!

After almost 3 years of silence, WHAMGAMES is back with a short game that is participating in MAGS / February / 2011!

DOWNLOAD LINK: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1404

The game features all-new graphics, full voice acting, original music, a wide range of sound effects and a novel gameplay mechanic that is quite likely to up your heartbeat by a notch as time runs out and you curse your inability to swim...

In addition, the game was translated to a total of five different languages (English, Finnish, German, Dutch and Italian)!
Thanks to Leon, Neon and Paolo for the translations! You guys worked wonders on such short notice!

Story in short:
"Stan Winston, a janitor working on a luxurious man-made island resort, the LaSol, is about to have his life turned upside down, quite literally..."

I actually made a list of pros and cons. ::)

I'd love to see the pro's and cons of my game some time! A list like that, made by someone else who apparently knows quite a bit about how to make a nice game, would be really useful!

I uploaded a new version just now. Only one small fix: the outro cutscene could trigger incorrectly, making for a very confusing watch. If you downloaded LaSol already, but haven't player yet, please download again to avoid the faulty cutscene.

Hints & Tips / Re: Submerged - LaSol

Spoiler

The more wod you place on the door, the longer the door will last, giving you more time.

The rescue team will arrive after a set amount of time, from when you first use the radio to call for help.

Question about la sol though:
Spoiler
is it possible to get better than the glass shard in back ending? I have cracked the glass but i dont see how to improve from there

Spoiler
If you live long enough to be plucked out of the sea (not seen directly, but flares are involved), you have gotten the best ending to the game. Saving one's skin is sometimes costly...

The only other person directly working on Beacon was WHAM- who did a very good job voicing Valentin btw- thanks WHAM!

A pleasure to be of service! It was fun working with so many other people on the game.
I have to say your game looks and sounds simply amazing! Great job!

Holy smokes, Pinback! I'm going to have my hands full topping that!
Oh well, here goes!

Now I know what I'll be doing this weekend! Great job getting this done, people! You make the AGS community PROUD!

I'll put this in the game's own thread as well, as many people might not see this in the recruit a team -thread (copy-paste ensues):

WHAMGAMES is looking for a developement team for Infection - Episode II - The Station, which I am rebooting as a project due to previous version's poor documentation, issues with design and the fact that woking alone on such a large game is simply impossible.

If any of the three roles mentioned below interest you, send me an e-main to wham@whamgames.com and we can talk and see if our interests meet.

The game we are talking about is pretty big (over a hundred rooms), will feature randomly generated content, many characters, many puzzles and a large portion of action oriented content and resource management.

Types of people required:

> Sprite artist
I already have basic walkcycles and standing frames for most characters done. This job would mostly consist of re-skinning existing walkcycles to create new variations of existing characters (differently coloured or detailed uniforms, for example). I will also need some new and fairly difficult unique animations, so if you're up for some challenges, this is for you. I am NOT asking you to do things alone for me, I am asking for you to at least actively participate with either drawing the graphics or experienced critique and ideas on how to improve graphics without creating a massive workload.

> Background artist
I have a good number of (mostly) ready backgrounds. If you are interested in enhancing existing work, critiquing my work and perhaps contributing with variations of existing backgrounds and even some new art, this could be for you.

And lastly, the most important role
> Design assistant

I need someone to go through the game's design documents as I create them, provide critique, new ideas and improvements. I don't need help with the story, of that I already have a good idea and the script is forming all the time. What I really need is someone to help me work with implementing some non-adventure gameplay mechanics so that they work as seamlessly as possible with the game's other aspects.

If you are interested in this part you MUST have completed at least one AGS game before, or at least participated in a game in a constructive way.

A little status update now:

As I've worked for the last month on a game for the february MAGS, I've noticed first-hand how having poor design documentation makes creating a good game a LOT harder (oh the horror of re-writing the same script ten times because you realize you misused a function and / or variable several times).
For this reason I am putting this project on a (hopefully) short hold, as I'm going to re-write most of the design documents, write a proper script and puzzle design documentation (that I've not had outside of my head so far) and probably re-write most of the existing code for the game, to better implement some of the newfangled tricks I've leadned while working on the MAGS project (There is a Game.DoOnceOnly -script!? WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED!?).

I'm also planning to chop the project into pieces and set actual deadlines for each section, to better motivate myself to keep the project properly going. There is also a chance I will try to hire outside help to create parts of the game with me at some point, to ease off the workload of creating a massive over 100 room game with randomly generated content and action sequences, as well as minigames.

As a result I'm hoping to be able to speed up the process so that the game will have a chance to see a late 2011 or early 2012 release, instead of "Maybe some day when its done I guess" -release date.

Let's get this show on the road, people!

Soooo cloooose!

Only issue: I need more voice actors! Trying to sort that one out in the next few days. After that its an evening's work from being finished and ready for delivery.

"Submerged - The LaSol incident" awaits!

yeah, I opened the whole thing, but realised the jack was under the motherboard, so I couldn't get to it. Soooo... I took my spike and hammered the thing in. The only problem, my HD connection is just right behind it, so I don't want to mess up the whole 'mputer. Anyway, the green stuff and a metal ring fell out of it, all shattered. Sadly it didn't work. But, at least my laptop still works, though now it's got a hole in the front panel.

From my own experience as a Fujitsu Siemens warranty techie, the situation is like this:
You need a new motherboard, which costs a lot of money. If you take it in for warranty, they will most likely state, that the damage is due to "physical damage" and not covered by warranty, as in most cases such damage is caused by having an audio plug connected while transporting the laptop, which causes bending, stress and breaking.

I would recommend disablind the integrated audio chip altogether and getting a separata USB sound "card" if at all possible. Cheapest and easiest solution.

EDIT: Oh, and about the hole: red or black (whichever colour you prefer) electricians tape. Keeps dust out and sticks forever.

Yeah, sound like a pretty pure rip-off of Monsters Inc.
Then again, it's going to be all about how you pull it off and how you differentiate your creating from that.

All graphics and script is now done, working and mostly tested.
Sounds are now being picked and implemented, and finishing touches should be in place early next week.
#2479
Intro now has 90% of graphics, the final 10% I need a few reference fotographs for, which a friend of mine is supposed to supply by sunday.

Outro graphics are now about 50% done.

All graphics should be done by the end of the week, and all scripting is already done, so...

SO CLOSE!

Also: I know that you're supposed to do everything from scratch, so will using a few royalty-free stock photos get me disqualified? I'd hate to have to either remove them, or try drawing them myself, 'cause they will just not look nearly as nice then...

EDIT: Just got the photos! Lookin'n gooooood!

Also spotted this on joystiq just now and had to come check this thread out again.

Great job, man! This just goes to show that there is yet another developer in the AGS community, who has done great enough job to be recognized far and wide outside the AGS community.

Well done!
