EDIT: Help recruited, solutions found, game project prototype well underway!

Hello!

I am in the early stages of planning a game prototype, and have come across an obstacle due to my lack of maths skills.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would like to help me build a prototype piece of code for tracking the movements of the players mouse cursor in a game, such as distance from a point and the angle / direction from a point.

If you think you might be interested in helping me out, please PM me here, or contact me via Discord at WHAM#4498 so I can better explain and demonstrate what I'm after.

Thank you.

Workplace just sent us a questionnaire, asking if we need help shipping stuff from the office to our homes.
We've been given permissions to take desks, laptops, monitors and such to our homes so we have everything we might need to continue working from home.

Good show!

Finland just declared its first real actions yesterday, and we're enacting some emergency laws in the near future, for sake of readiness.

We're not testing people for the disease, so Finland is not reporting any meaningful numbers to indicate spread of the Wuhan virus at this time. Only people with severe symptoms will be tested to confirm a preliminary diagnosis, and all non-essential care in hospitals is being postponed.

Some of the measures decided by the Government, effective as of today, active until 14th of April unless new guidelines are set before then:

- Early childhood education and care units and the pre-primary education organised in connection with them will be kept in operation.
- The premises of schools will be closed down.
- Public gatherings are limited to no more than ten persons.
- Preparations will be launched for the closure of Finland’s borders without delay in accordance with international obligations.
- Passenger transport to Finland will be suspended as soon as possible, with the exception of the return of Finnish citizens and persons residing in Finland.
- Finnish citizens and persons residing in Finland must not travel abroad. Finnish tourists abroad are advised to return to Finland immediately.
- Finns and permanent residents in Finland returning from abroad will be placed in quarantine-like conditions for two weeks.
- Persons returning from abroad must agree on the date of their return to work after a two-week period of absence together with their employer

As for myself, I bought 3+ weeks of foodstuffs so I can comfortably wait out the first phase of all this. Got a bunch of flour, dry yeast, sugar and salt so I can make more bread as the store bought stuff will go bad or run out.
We got instructed to work from home anyway, so I'm holed up in my home now.

...which is pretty much the normal state of affairs for me anyway.

General Discussion / Re: Trumpmageddon

"Crony nullification" seems like a mischaracterization.
The process of impeachment and removal exists to remove a president from office in a situation where said presidents actions are deemed by both houses, with considerable majority that pretty much has to cross party lines somewhere. Thus it can only be expected to produce the result of removal only in a situation where the presidents actions are deemed dire and harmful to the nation by both parties, not just one of the two parties. Him having done "something wrong" is also not enough of a reason to dismiss, as long as that wrong does not constitute a considerable harm to the nation as a whole, or else quite a few presidents would have been removed from office, including Clinton back in his day.

And now...

Watching the Democrats fail to put forward a candidate the public can abide by.
Watching the rushed attempt at impeachment and removal fall flat just as expected.
Watching the Democrats get called out for massive miscalculations and failures in their caucusing.

I had folk laughing at me in 2016 when I said Trump might well win the presidency, but as we are in an election year again...

* clears throat *

FOUR - MORE - YEARS!

EDIT: removed a few redundant words.

I humbly submit for your consideration: GNRBLEX [Steam Edition]
The game is available, free of charge, on the Steam distribution platform.

An evolution of a 2016 MAGS entry, the final version of GNRBLEX adds:
- New enhanced art and animation
- Full voice acting by four talented voice actors
- An original soundtrack
- A handful of gameplay enhancements and new puzzles

The art of creation is both a blessing and a curse. The notion from before is accurate, in that people will gladly tell you if they think you did something wrong.
As with all art, be it writing, drawing, game development, moviemaking, whatever: if you want to publish your work to an audience, you instantly open yourself up for critique and feedback whether you want it or not. If this is not something you are prepared for, then it will be best to limit your audience to people you know to be supportive, such as family and friends. However, doing so also restricts your growth, as these people will be too kind to be honest if there is something to improve.

My personal experience is to just take the hits and grow a thick enough of a skin to deal with any feedback or hurtful remarks, read them, understand them and distill them in your mind into something useful.

"You suck" or "This is bad" or "You're an idiot for making this" is not feedback, it's noise and can be safely ignored. (Though ignoring it can be easier said than done, hence the need for a thick skin when it comes to these things.)

Feedback is something that gives you detail, gives you suggestions, and once you receive this it is up to you to review this feedback and decide if you want to compromise your vision and cater to the audience, or soldier on with your own vision and accept that the feedback will not change.

My most valuable lesson when it comes to feedback came from my aunt: "People telling you that you did good doesn't help you grow. It just makes you feel warm and fuzzy, and makes you think you're already good enough and don't need to learn anything new anymore." It may feel like a harsh lesson, and especially so when it comes from strangers, but it has immense value!

Damn I love this theme, but sadly lack the time to develop something right now. Looking forward to see what others make, though!

Aaaa! Why am I like this!?  :~(
I promise to do better in writing than I do in hosting!  :-D

I admit nothing, and especially not to writing down my vote-count in an excel so that Baron GIVING the vote was marked as having RECEIVED his own votes.
Good grief, this is what I get for setting the deadline at midnight! :D

Sorry folks, and yes, SINITRENA is crowned the winner!
#415
Whelp, voting deadline is at hand, and it looks like Sinitrena is the winner.
The always cordial Baron came in second place, and our newcomer Reiter was left with the third place with their first entry (though I kinda liked their theme the best of the bunch...)

Congratumalations to all!

I look forward to seeing what theme Sinitrena comes up with for the coming fortnight! See you all in the next thread.  ;)
#416
And so we have thee GODLIKE entries!

Ladies, Gentlemen and all in between, I present to thee, our contestants:

Sinitrena, with the tale:
Wanderer‘s Path

Baron, with the tale:
God the Father

Reiter, with the tale:
The Chorus of Serpents Upon the Year Zero
(New face? I don't remember a story by a Reiter before! Or maybe I just suck at remembering people... in any case: WELCOME ABOARD, and best of luck in this, the friendliest of contests!)

An attempt was made! A shady fortress monastery in the dark of night.
I began to feel like I could keep adding detail and polish for days on end, but if I went on with that I'd just end up burning myself out and probably run well past the deadline, so I'll call it done here.
#418
I haven't done pixel art backgrounds in ages, and this intrigues me as an idea, so I might try to craft something small tonight.
#419
The weekend approaches. The deadline looms!
Don't forget: SHE IS WATCHING!
#420

"Hey, you, down there! Did you eat that goddamn fruit from the GODDAMN TREE!?"

Requirements: It doesn't matter which one, but on this day God was proven to exist. A God! An entity so powerful that it has been worshipped since time immemorial in one way or another, and now it's no longer just scripture, theories and dogma. It's real, proven, tangible.
What happens now? Do you write of how societies collapse? How religions clash? How an individual among it all experiences the revelation? How the God him/her/itself views this new revelation among his/her/its minions?

It's all up to you.

Stories will be due 23:59 UTC on October 20th (this date already has a built-in extension into the weekend, for Baron, and to get us on a nice and even writing schedule again.)

Voting categories:

Best Writing Technique: Technical Prowess and Storytelling
Best Character(s): The people and entities involved in the story
Best Revelation: Who had the most interesting, well described or otherwise unique take on God being proven real?
