Looks like he's wearing sneakers. Give him leather or iron boots instead.

senators should be purple as purple was expensive to import

Nah, purple was for the emperor to wear. But don't get too hung up on it, a lot of the sources from the Roman period are pretty unreliable, so if you want to do something do it.

What year are you setting this in?

Have you tried a character walking in that background yet?Ã,  Does the character's appearance change as he approaches the edges?Ã,

Probably not, but you never know...

Can this be done using AGS or do you need to make new sprites?

And thanks for the support mate

Actually, the original sketch had him with a combover but I took it out as it didn't really fit his character. ;)

As for the programming, I was planning on just doing all the artwork then handing it on to someone else to play with. If that would interest you then send me a pm. There's no time constraint or anything like that, its just that I won't have much time this year (I forgot to mention that I also have a baby coming in August).

If you want to finish your game first I don't mind.

keep the blade white, and maybe refine the blood

Hey mate,

Great bg, I love the atmosphere

Anyway thought I would attempt to make the shadows a bit more defined.

Obviously the shadows don't fit with the shading on the buildings, but I think it makes them look better. (my opinion of course) Anyway, I thought the angle of the sun was a bit awkward as it sort of came in at a right angle.

when the left-arm is fully extended forwards, it seems to do this strange "shaking" or "jerking-back-and-forth" type of motion for a quick moment..

Hey Barb mate, thanks for pointing it out. See if this is better....

Also, there's a shot of him walking towards the screen in this thread : http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=14526.0

A shot of the butcher walking towards the screen---

I've come to the realisation that I'm probably not gonna finish the game (being realistic) because: I'll be doing fulltime study this semester to graduate at the end of the year, then I want to go and join the police force which will be 8 months of training. SO if there is anyone out there who wants to help with this game (mainly programming, music needed too), send me an email or pm me.

Basically I can do the backgrounds and most of the sprites, but I need to learn how to program in AGS which is gonna take too long (yeah I know its not hard to use).

So give me a buzz if your interested (some example of your work necessary)

Hey mate, what paint prog are you using?

It's a cool background but I think you need make the shadows more defined. Personally I think this can really help make a bg look great.

Hey Darth, cheers mate

I like the arse refix and the shadows too. I will probably put shading on the arm aswell.

One thing I'm not too shure on is the reduction in framerate... Is there a reason for this? Or was it just easier for you to edit? Personally I like smoother animations.

"i have a strange feeling when looking at your backgrounds. " - what sort of strange feeling may I ask?

"could you put the backgrounds as a link instead of showing them" - done!

"do you use Flash to make characters? " - nah, just good old pen and pencil. I then used a tracing pad to draw each frame. Probably not the easiest way to do it.

Well, from what I'm seeing the Butcher character isn't getting a great reception. There is a post here if anyone wants to add suggestions - http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=14334.0

Hey fellahs,

This is some of the stuff I've been working on for my game.

The story is set on a small island. The town is called St. Michael's Town,
and you start the game the morning after the local sheriff has been murdered.
The thing is, you are the sheriff.

Anyway, as fate would have it the ghost of the sheriff is missing his soul due to the circumstances of his death.
Ghost (the character) then is given the chance to reclaim his body, soul and memories (which he is also missing)
- and in the end, hopefully revenge.

As the game progresses Ghost finds out about himself and his murderer.

Most of this stuff is still preliminary, the old stuff hasn't been updated with the comments I've received in the critics lounge.

New stuff:

Ghost (will probably be transparent with different shading)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/ghost2.gif

The Tour Guide (will be transparent)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Tour_Guide.gif

The town (no doors, will use sprites for that)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/town_centre.gif

The lighthouse (no door again)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/lighthouse.gif

Old Stuff:

The Beach:
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/beach.jpg

Outside town:
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/townlong2.gif

The butcher (walking right [final])
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/walking-right-final3.gif

Currently I've only really worked on the backgrounds and a bit on characters. Scripting, music etc.. Haven't been started. Some of the puzzles have been thought about. One thing with Ghost is that while in spectral form he can't pick up anything or move anything (though he can pass through locked doors with ease!).

Hey fellahs, thanks for the positive feedback.

"making some of the grass a bit more interesting." - Yeh, I tend to agree with you there. I chucked in a noise filter but thats about it. I might take you up on that and add more detail to it.

"Are these for a game?  Have you worked on any characters?" - yes and yes, I have a character thats up for C&C in this forum, probably a few pages back now. I'll start a thread in 'Works in progress' soon, as things are coming along smoothly at the moment. Actually the art side of things is pretty easy for me, its the scripting that I'm worried about :-\

Once again, cheers fellahs for giving me a big head ;D

I wonder about the tecnique... Could you please enlight me?

G'day mate, first off, this is based heavily around the techniques explained here - http://www.twin-design.com/agsezine/issue5_garagegothic.cfm

Same basic prinicples, except mine is obviously alot more cartoonish, I think this is based largely around the preliminary sketch. I don't really like straight lines  ;D

To use this method you need a scanner and a decent paint program (I use photoshop).

If there's anything I can help you with let me know, though I'm still fairly new at this (and totally new to AGS).

Thought I would just do an update to this thread. This scene follows on from the last scene. Soory about the size but its a long image (is there a limit to how long an image should be in AGS?).

Once I get a bit more work done I'll probably abandon this thread and start one in 'works in progress', and post the backgrounds already seen with the advice taken into consideration. All critism is taken note of, so thanks for all the help.

Cheers
