This is the "Hints and Tips" thread. If you don't have anything to contribute, then don't post here. I personally don't care how or why you cheated to beat the game, but just leave this forum to those who want the enjoyment of playing and getting over a slight stumble along the way.  OK?

No need to have an Atari emulator with Arj0n around. He is on a quest to revive old games to give modern players the sense of what it was like 30 years ago. IMO he's doing great - and I know there's more to come. Once again well done, and I'm glad you enjoyed the experience. I, for one, found this game hard, please give it a rating. Best wishes, Wiggy.

Hey well done! You've played it through in record time without help! I am very impressed.

Thanx! Voted. Geez I can be so stoopid at times! I blame it on old age or Microsoft. Disney too. Crap, I'm rambling again...

Well where do I vote? I can't find a link...

Hiya Michael2968!

I hope you've enjoyed the game so far. From your inventory I can see that you have not explored the front garden enough yet, and have you read all 7 books in the library? (Yes, at first play I only found 4, but there are 7.) Notepad ready!!

Forget about the power for now, you get to fix that after much torturous gameplay, (I guess someone should "Bwaahahaha" at this point.) I'll leave that to Arj0n,

Have you considered every response you received, particularly the one that begins "From this side it looks like" Try looking at it from somewhere else.

I thought I would start this thread because I can forsee a need for it. This is not an easy game. Although there are hotspots with labels displayed at the base of the screen, nearly everything can be looked at or interacted with. If you're stuck somewhere post here, and I would suggest that you describe all objects that you have in inventory - it is soooo easy to miss something along the way and you get stuck hours later.

The usual adventure gaming advice applies; save often etc. etc. I had a save file I called "about2Bstoopid" which I saved to before doing ANYTHING, because you can die in many (sometimes hilarious) ways. Look at everything before you interact with it/them, sometimes you may need to look twice. All the doors you find are locked, I guess because Grandad has senile paranoia, so you need to find a LOT of keys. I always use a notepad and pen to keep track of things you've found out but don't need the information just yet, and also to assist with the curse of gamers everywhere - the dreaded making of a map...<<shudder>>. The game will give you clues sometimes in the descriptions it gives after you've looked. Consider them carefully. Above all... enjoy! It is a Fun game.

Cheers.

(Oh, and I bet by now you've all been electrocuted. I was too.)

Hi Bertolino!

Yes, this is a frustrating puzzle, and it takes a few attempts to get through but nothing is impossible. There is a process that you need to follow and I'll guide you through it - it may take a little time and you will need a pen and paper to take notes. OK?

When you unzipped the game there was a "Manual.pdf" file which I hope you read, and you would have found this from the developer:

"The password puzzle is simpler than it seems. Try generating some non-admin passwords and look for
a pattern. The password is generated at random every game but can always be guessed within six tries or less based on the password hints the system gives you."

So now we go to the computer, open the browser, and we are faced with 2 choices: enter (which we cannot) or bypass. We click on bypass and are taken to a terminal screen with 3 choices:

1. Reset password (which we cannot because we don't know the old password yet)
2. Password hints (we will need this but not yet)
3. Generate password (gives us non-admin passwords as a key. This is what we want!!!)

As the developer said, this puzzle changes randomly - so what happens on your computer may well be different from what happened on mine. Generate about 5 passwords and write them down on your paper. When I did this, here were my results - yours will be different.

BE4OTH07
HE5OTH39
HE0OTH57
BE0OTH14
HE4OTH65

This is where we think. The common characters are the second ("E") 4th 5th and 6th ("OTH"). The third character seems to be a random number between 0 and 5. That means we have to find the first and 7th and 8th characters. Here's where the option 2 on the terminal comes in. We look for hints!

We look 3 times for hints and we find:

The password is 8 characters long. (duh!)
The password begins with "B" (NOTE: yours may be different, so write it down.)
The last 3 characters are "H49" (again yours are different, write them down)

DO NOT try for another hint because this causes a password reset and we gotta do this all over again.

Thus we have (putting it all together) MY password is BE#OTH49 where # is a random number from 0 on up. Now is the time to use option 1 and reset password. All we do is try BE0OTH49, then BE1OTH49, then BE2OTH49 and so on...then you will be prompted for new password. Enter anything you can remember and SAVE THE GAME!!!!

It's a fiendish puzzle, and I hope you see that there is not 1 constant password that we can pass around. I liked it a lot and I hope that helped.

Cheers!  Wiggy

What he said. This is a splendid remake of a very challenging game, and lots of fun. I'll see you all in the hints forum ;)

I'll have to replay it a bit, but I'm sure I've got a clue...Standby

OK. You need to speak to three people, the Mobley boy at the pond, Cliona, and the florist - who will then be open. Exhaust all conversations and you'll be aware of what to do. If you need something more I'll post again.

Well there were so many brilliant games released in 2022, which was a most forgettable year in all, I urge all you excellent devs to really get into it and nominate. You have entertained the world during very stressful times, you all rightly deserve our applause and now is the time to award the accolades. Best of luck to all!

Congratulations on the release! You have created a frightening futuristic world that has me immersed totally. Downloaded and set to play! Thank you very much.

Thanks, received, now to play and deduce!

Can anyone help me find "Tomes: Layne's Discovery" by LowResHero? It still has an entry in the database, but the website and mirror are down, and the download button links to GameJolt but the game is not there. Many thanks in advance.

Nup!

I shot the door, Took the axe and died. I can't be bothered playing more of this exceedingly crappy game, it's the worst on the database.

I have to echo Creamy's sentiments. This game is so linear that it is boring - it is an exercise in left clicking. There is no player thought involved, thus no entertainment value. I can see there has been a lot of effort put in to the development, the artwork is fine, the premise is given but where is the story? Where is the gameplay? Re-think the development and get yourselves some decent beta-testers so your feedback is constructive rather than self congratulatory. It's a crying shame, because I was really looking forward to this release. Underwhelmed.

Hi everyone! For Skeevy Wonder, no it has nothing to do with that. You have in your possession a thing that you need to reduce to component parts, and you do that by using it on yourself. The components can help you enormously now.

Cheers! Wiggy.

Hi,

Having done a few translations I think I can help. If your translated string is longer than the original string, AGS will not substitute the text. For designers, if you want translations for your games then add about 10 spaces after every dialog          like that. For translators keep it short.

Hi Shadow1000,

No, you don't need to go back to the egg, you can't get more shell anyway. The search process is "hit and miss" in a way, but if you've been overflown by the big bird it's showing you a direction and you don't need to go too far.  Without playing it again I think that from the cactus you go

south, west, west. north and you should see an oasis in the distance.

I hope that helps and that you're enjoying the game. Cheers!
