General Discussion / AGS on Wikipedia
Wed 11/02/2009 12:06:33
I was looking at the Wikipedia article on AGS just now, and it seems to have a rather large amount of holes, considering AGS has such a huge community.
Maybe we could get together and give it a makeover?
Now, I'm not much good when it comes to verbatim(among other reasons), so I haven't done it myself.
In fact, I was going to add a bit on the AGS awards using the information
Here
, but as I'm not sure about the legal stuff, and I cant think of another way to rephrase it that wouldn't sound lame, I havn't done it.

Does anyone else like the idea?

General Discussion / A New Shape
Tue 03/02/2009 00:50:22
I have invented a new 3d shape!
It's what you get if you take a large room that scrolls in both directions and make it loop in both directions!

It isn't a sphere, as you can draw a triangle with three right angles on a sphere.
So what is it?

in the meantime, I've decided to call it (Drum Roll) "The Chocolate Scroll"

I made a Boolean variable in the globalvariables section, but when I tried to test my game I got this Error Message:

Error (line 1): Expected integer value after "="     _GlobalVariables.asc       1

I have absolutely no idea how to fix something like that.
I even tried looking for a globalvariables.asc script file in the directory, so I could open it and see if I could fix it manually.

Anyone know whats going on here?

thanks

Is it possible to have multiple inventories available to one character?
Is it possible to have two inventories from two different characters on screen at the same time?

These questions are a little bit whimsy, but I think I could get quite a nice effect if I knew vaguely how to do it.

Thanks for any help.

let's say I had a room large enough that it had to be scrolled when played.
would it be possible to make buttons that did NOT scroll with the rest of the screen? If so, How?

another question:
I have a game mainly controlled by keyboard, how do you make it so that instead of using the arrow keys to toggle movement(like in trilbys notes), that you move while the key is pressed, but not while it's not?

and another:
if you made  tile based game, could you make it so that when you press, say, the "Right" arrow key, that you move one tile right, and then there is a delay between that and moving to next tile, even if you held it down?

hope all those questions made sense, because I'm not quite sure what I mean myself.
I'm just trying to foresee future problems in my first full-scale AGS project.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
ThankYou.

General Discussion / problem with download.
Sun 23/11/2008 11:35:54
I'm not sure where to put this, so I'll put it here.

when I downloaded the new version of AGS, for some reason my computer wanted to open it with adobe reader.
now obviously something has gone wrong here, and I don't have the know-how to fix it.
if anyone can help me out here, I'd be grateful, as until then I'll have to use V3.0.0 .

please help me.

Just so that I have this all sorted out.
I don't seem to be able to use variables in room scripts, is that because you just cant do that, or am I just doing something wrong?
if you cant, then is the only way I can get variables in a function that is in a roomscript by making another variable in the global script, and then make a function of the same name?

thanks for any help in advance.

General Discussion / Photo-Realistic Sprites
Sat 10/05/2008 11:07:00
Recently I took up a(nother) Hobby, Photography!

Then I had a thought: could you use a Photo as a Sprite.
I tested it, and it seemed to work.

However, There were a few difficulties.
It took a long time to cut the sprite out from the picture,  but I decided that I could trim it once I'd shrunk it .
Shrinking was Difficult because (Say I'm making a Sprite of a Character) I had trouble fitting the whole thing on screen.

But as cutting it out is the most time consuming task, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on doing it, as I imagine that there are people out there who have more experience with image editing.

I've only just started, but I seem to have run into a problem:

I'm currently in "Getting Started with AGS - Part 4"
I did all the stuff it told me to do, but when it told me to run it at the end of the "Back to the Events" section it gave me this message: "Error (line 10): PE04: parse error at 'oKey'"

help would be nice, as I'm most certainly NOT a scripting whiz.

If you need more info, just ask

Thankyou.
