Messages - Wretched

#581
Hi sunshine, Sorry about this I wrote you a lovely long answer but must have got distracted before I posted it and it's not here, so here goes again.

The screen should go black between screens, there is a fadeout/fadein effect so this is normal.

I cannot find the bug you referred to, if you can repeat it and tell me from which room the error occured and what the last thing you did was it would help in tracking it down.
However, the game is completable without ever needing to press this MAIN MENU button. There is nothing you can do that makes the game impossible to complete. So if it's causing trouble I suggest you restart the game and don't use this.

The yellow squares will become apparent later in the game when you have collected some of the 22 tarot cards that are in the game, though even then it's only for show and not functional.

The other rooms will become avaliable as you progress through the game solving the puzzles. The game is split into about 9 distinct areas and I have tried to keep the number of rooms per area small to avoid bewilderment.

There is a thread in the hint and tips if you are stuck in the early levels.

Can't promise it will sunshine, but its unlikely to make it any worse.

Joyce, np.
Spoiler
Sorry about this when I said 'farside' I was refering to the House as the reference point ie. the farside from the house or the same side of the river as the cave. Everything's relative, anyway this should trigger the cutscene. If this is not working then there must be a bug and you will have to play through from start. Again apologies for any confusion caused.

Just go to the goat cave and be on the far side of the river.

Yes I noticed this yesterday and have since fixed the .zip if you just want to re-download or just do as you have done.

Rosie,

The puzzle is quite easy to do, so bear with it.
Spoiler
The big jumpy thing? If this is the statue with icicles on it to the left of the puzzle? then look closely and you will see the goal to the puzzle.

Joyce,

I think I might have a go at this, I have a disabled uncle, though he can very slowly use a mouse, about 20secs to move and click it, I think he would like a 1 click game.

I'm thinking double clicks might be the way to give a choice of input, any idea what sort of rate would be acceptable for most disabled people to achive consistantly ?

Hey Largo, is that purely coincidental that one of your plot lines has Alpha computer games, when my company is Alpha72 Games ?

Sorry you are having such difficulties. You are almost there Joyce.

Spoiler
It is important where on the branch you throw the porridge. Also you need the goat to get any further.

Well here, at last, after quite a few months of teetering on the edge of diving into AGS I have put together a game. My main interest was to see how the scripting engine worked so to that end this is mostly a script based game.
That said the game features over 100 rooms, 20+ NPC's, 2 3D real time sub-games, simple jigsaw game, 3D Doom like maze game and lots of tarot cards and millions of cowboy hats, and a story along the lines of Mary Poppins meets Barbarella.
I should point out it was a MAGS entry and had a 16 colour palette restriction, and was written in only 3.5 weeks.
The game is pitched at relatively experienced players.

Sorry but there is no music or audio.

Some screen shots...

All feedback welcomed. Enjoy.

Ok here's my entry for April Mags.
16 colours, cowboy hat and tarot card.

The plot does get a bit ropey at times but there is a thread of sorts.

There is no sign of a backup_editor.dat file here or in any other ags game directories I have looked in. There are the two files  backup_ac2game.dta  and backup_acsprset.spr but thats it. I have version 2.62 WindowsXP version if this is relevant.

Yippeeee.

Managed to rebuild the editor.dat file by taking part of the backup one and the remenants of the corrupt one, joining them together in a binary editor and hand correcting some offset value. And am back on track. Just 50 odd global #defines to type in which should all be found by script error reports. Phew!

p.s. It my birthday too. :)

I've had a look at the editor.dat file I have, it's about 64K in size, there is some obvious corruption at the start then I have the last few lines of the global script header file and the rest of the file seems ok.
Comparing this with a backup editor.dat it seems to be just the header file missings, this was all #defines so I should be able to rebuild this.
Question , is it possible to rebuild the front of this file in a binary editor for example ?

I've got 4 gig diskspace left, is there some reason that I don't have a backup-editor.dat file, is there an option for this somewhere? Unfortunatly the game was a MAGS entry so I cannot redo the lost work in time. Thanks for your help.

Yes I backed up last week but I still lost tonnes, there is no backup_editor.dat file.

Didn't actually crash with a message, the computer ceased up for 10 minutes with harddisk thrashing away, and I had no option but to reset.

AGS just crashed whislt saving game and now I'm getting invalid editor.dat file, I assume this is serious. Is there any standard procedure to rebuild the game ? or salvage a lot of work from the remenants ?
