after a few edits, I got the Test Game menu item to work.  Here's what i did:

- I went to the menu item,  File - Setup Game...
- I made sure the boxes "640 x 400" and  "Run in window" were checked like GilbotV7000a said.

I did not change any other default settings.

This made my TEST GAME option to work.... my problem did not seem to be similar to other test game problems, apparently.  I guess that bug is very unique and cannot b easily fixed.

How can the script recognize button names such as if (button == x)
when they are not initialized earlier.   So if my buttons are NOT arranged in a line, ( mine are arranged in a diamond- shape)  How do i decide which button == 0, 1, 2 etc?

I really think you should consider more big picture like you have been before AGS.......

I got the same type of bug.. in a way.   the room didnt show up but the music played as you said.  But my error message said that the AGS engine "didnt shut down properly." what does this mean and what do i do to fix it?

By the way the error message popped up AFTER testing the game once,  black screen, the testing it again, but the error message coming up.

If I were you i would just quit fooling around with AGS and move into REAL 3d programming with torque.  It's language is based on C like AGS, but it can do everything you did much more easily.  You can get a compatible text editor for it called "Crimson Editor" and be sure to get a book called "3D Game Programming: All in one"  by Kenneth Finney.  It should walk you through it.   anyway, good luck with that.

If I were you i would look into the art of 3D programming using an Engine called Torque. It's language is VERY similar to the one used by AGS because it is also based on C. You can get a compatible text editor called "Crimson Editor" it thats freeware and it will let you create cool 3d games.
by the end of the year you could have your very own first-person shooter similar to halo  ;D

Well i have how the proagram will keep track of each monster, done with global variables so i could have the same monster in multiple rooms.  And i have how the program will keep track of stats and such..... i just have trouble with how turns will work....

I guess my question is "How would i make the combat system itself turn-based"  I have most everything else for a good combat script.   My system will be similar to Final Fantasy X sorta.....

I'm trying to make a turn-based system of combat.  Could someone help with the scripting?  I sort of have some figured out but not much...
