Eric, this link is terrific. Thanks a million! Also thanks MforW - no matter how I turn it, button 2 needs to change :)

Thanks for the quick feedback!
Can your friend read the numbers or do they blend in too much? Are 4 and 6 okay? Which color would be more suitable instead of purple?

Questions, questions questions :)

Can you read the numbers and/or tell, if those buttons are different?

I know, I've asked this a few years before, but now I'd like to know if I can get rid of the shapes and still have a playable game.

Thanks for your help!

@ProgZ: Have you evaluated Windows88 ? :)

Anyway, I hardly ever use the start button and MacOS doesn't have this at all, so I think I won't miss it. As long as it's stable and fast, I'll be fine.
So I guess I'm pretty much on Magintz' side here, even though I haven't "touched" it yet.

hehe, then hear about Secret of Hutton:

And agreed, this is Adventure Talk&Chat :)

Just a quick question: what happens if I move over to the Draconian side of AGS? Will I ever be able to switch back, once you (hopefully not) get tired of this branch? Or will I be stuck with this forever? VSync is just sooo intriguing ;)

Just wondering: does anyone bring music instruments like a guitar? *looks at non-flying attendees*

Nice guide! Very insightful how you get things done. Here are a few points I'd like to add:

Know your characters: Try to create a brief description for your most important characters. Briefly describe their motivations in the story.

Outline your story: Create a mission statement - some kind of one-liner for your game. Then add a few lines about the beginning, the ending and some corner stones in between - also try to establish an arc of suspense over the whole story framework.

Spoiler
Super pro tip: Involve your gf/wife/life-partner Roy. You get much more time to work on your stuff + you're spending time together.

General Discussion / Re: 2D Game Engines

Well, there's a bug in my engine I never bothered to fix, since nobody seems to use it :) So it's possible to get a stable FPS rate if you look at Indiana Rodent for example. My current platform project is also able to run on a Atom CPU. But of course compared to classic jump'n runs like Sonic the Hedgehog, the performance is still pretty bad ;)

Don't forget that AGS is also capable of creating classic platformers, e.g. Indiana Rodent or this long forgotten thing:

Concurrence is also a great example of non adventurous stuff in AGS.

I suppose most engines still won't provide everything you'll ever need. For example I think you still need to code your own path finding implementation in GameMaker (correct me if I'm wrong).

So, I'm very happy with AGS, but of course I'm not a professional.

@Arj0n: The act always broke the immersion for me. You could only finish an act if you did all things needed for it. Unfortunately only Roberta knew which thing that would be. So when you follow a line of clues, you always run against "act-walls" and have to finish other minor important stuff before you could progress further.

@Radiant: First of all: The guy in the suit is always the bad guy :) The plot certainly is cliché - no doubt about that. But all murder mystery is somehow and I actually expect all those characters to die. You could already tell at the dining table that next time you only need half the dishes :)
But yeah, the main murderer had pretty lame reasons for doing what has to be done - apart from that this was my first game featuring a pile of corpses :D Not to mention that epic Roland LAPC-I scream... yes, I'm not objective anymore ;)

I'd like to see Drugbust and Boob-Quest Forgotten Element.

Most of these games look pretty nice though

@Crimson: Yaay :D
And just in case you want to take over I'll gladly send you those files

Oh I've read that review. I think the reviewer forgets that this is a game, not a novel.
Laura Bow 1 is one of my all-time favorites, btw. and I prefer it over it's sequel.

Pro:
+ atmosphere
+ EGA eyecandy
+ even more EGA eyecandy (this game just looks soo good)
+ great soundtrack
+ lots of characters

Cons:
- pretty hard
- dead ends and illogical puzzles
- stupid act system

To be honest, the first times I played I always got stuck or missed some elements (maybe due to the lazyness of not reading all the dialogs). So in the end I used a walkthrough - strangely I still was highly entertained.

Happy Birthday MamaRulez... err Mr. Simon ;D

Hehe, good show. Although I couldn't listen completely to the redneck rant music due some whispering on top of it :P

It's really interesting hearing you talk about animations, a topic usually not that much discussed, because usually everyone seems to be much more into backgrounds.

So yeah, please do more!

Edit: There's also the stickman-method, which I happen to use for unusual situations.

Oh, and if there's any chance to see some rotoscope-outtakes... I bet there's an audience waiting for it :D

I mean just as a simple example Ctrl+Z, which is Undo in every Windows program I know, in PM it's not.
I beg to differ :P I'd rather say, you somehow mixed up your hotkeys. In pm it's crtl-z like everywhere else.

But now I got to listen to this podcast :D
