Okies, I think I'm finally done with the stickman phase :)

Here's the final dude:

Hey, thanks for all the great answers!

I guess my chances are really a little limited - I guess I'll analyze your cool 6-frame example a little, ProgZ and see if I can add some more frames.

@Ryan
Is there any chance for youtube link?

Thanks again :D

Okay, found it :)

If you don't want to upgrade your template, you can also update the script yourself.

Go to line 410 in guiscript.asc

change these lines:
Code: ags

  if (System.ScreenWidth==320)
    font_info=GetTranslation("font_320: 1  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  3");
  else if (System.ScreenWidth==640)
    font_info=GetTranslation("font_640: 1  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  3");

to this
Code: ags

  if (System.ScreenWidth==320)
    font_info=GetTranslation("font_lowres: 1  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  3");
  else
    font_info=GetTranslation("font_hires: 1  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  3  3");

I'll update the template asap.

@BlueAngel
The function is fine, but as you might see, the template defines a string called "font_info".
But it only does it for a screenwidth of 320 or 640.
So when you tried 800x600 or 1024 the variable "font_info" wasn't even created, so you got a null pointer error.
#1664
Whoops, I didn't know that this might be a problem. I'll take a look at it this evening and keep you updated.
#1665
I'm glad it worked for you :)

If you're really serious about Linux, you could try Artistx.
http://www.artistx.org/site2/

It's based on Ubuntu and brings lots of audio recording and graphics software out of the box

@Wreck, I tried to follow your advice about fighting the gravity. But I'm still having trouble with the feet since it's a walkcycle and I have to keep the movement in mind.

So this one's looking a lot more drunk now :)

I left out the arms for now, any ideas to smoothen it without loosing fight of gravity?

Thanks!

Wow, it's indeed impressive. Is it possible to make 2.5D games as well?

Btw. with shadows enabled, my framerate drops from 180 to 3  :-X

Hey Snake,
this seems to be the solution to your trouble:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/73cea559-ebbd-4274-96bc-e292b69f2fd1

And btw. even though I like Linux and used it as my primary desktop long time ago (2006?) - save yourself some trouble and do not switch :)

Even though everything's possible with Linux it takes a lot of time to get things going. If you like spending time with your OS, Linux is a great choice and a nice hobby.
Some dialogs I had with my girlfriend:
1) Can I print a photo? Sure, give me 2 hours (Ubuntu + Hp 990cxi, more than 72 dpi)
2) Where are the photos? Err.. seems like DigiKam stopped working. I'll try to get F-Spot running - 2 hours of rebuilding the library... computers suck.
3) I need to scan something? Sure, give me 2 more hours (finding drivers and then keep on finding better drivers)

So again, if you like to stay the OS out of your way, get a mac. If you don't mind messing with it every now and then, get Windows - and if you like how things are working and configure every piece of hardware.. Linux is your choice :D

Don't get me wrong - office tasks and surfing the web are great. But other than that it sucks as desktop.
#1669
hehe, I'd like to keep it below 50 frames ;D

btw. this site is pretty neat:
http://www.cs.nyu.edu/~gwtaylor/publications/nips2006mhmublv/videos/

Motion captured people as animated gifs, also featuring a drunk guy.
#1670
Thanks, that was very insightful!

I'll try a less uniform walkcycle then.

I guess what I did happens when you don't work with keyframes ;)

Hey there,

I'm currently having a little trouble with this animation. Does anyone know how I can add more drunkenness? I think drunk people are spinning with their torse a lot more than my guy.
But as I added more torso movement, the animation looked terrible.. Help ;D

Oh and it's more the trouble seeking type of being drunk ;)

@SuperDre
Thanks for your kind words :)

@Mr.Matti
What a bummer. Just in case want me to send you a savegame, you know where the PM button is ;)

I hope you'll get your machine fixed soon.

Idea: nihilyst - disturbingly cool
Technique: Tier - best composition, colorchoice and everything else... except for the trees ;)
Usefulness: Tier - makes me want to cross that waterfall

Hey thanks :)

I just checked the scrolling option in low and highres. It scrolls fine here - can you give more some more details on your GUI (like fixed or autoposition, icons or text) ?

Just as a side note: the highlighting is very experimental. In order to refresh the GUI surface so the highlight gets visible, I have to set the active dialog option to 1.

This means if you click really fast on the arrows or quickly hover it and then click, it's possible that the first dialog option gets accidently chosen.

well, Dosbox works most of the time for me. But one day I wanted to play Little Big Adventure (Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure) and... even though it was playable it wasn't fun at all.
VDMSound wasn't an option as well, but using VMWare finally did the trick for me.

Why not installing a fresh Window98 guest in VMware player, which is free :)
#1679
Apparently I suck too ;D

Is that really you? Its hard to believe that this post and that homepage (http://www.piscesallmedia.com/) come from the same person.

.. almost forgot the topic:

The comic artwork looks cool, but the desert photo with the gradient in back doesn't match the style very much (at least that's what I think). Good look and don't drink too much coffee ;)
