I've just downloaded your demo and tried it. Doesn't work at all in fullscreen, but runs fine in a window (800x600 and smooth scaled sprites).

I'm on Mac OS 10.5 and VMWare 1.1.2. I've already played Ben Jordan before - as long as it's not fullscreen, I usually can play AGS games.

Sorry, I've just spotted your answers.

Visy!!  ;D
If you ever like to do a remake of lassi's Quest I shall send you the sprites.

@jetxl
Do you mean those old games or the backgrounds? Unfortunately I don't have a paid rapidshare account so it would get deleted after 60 (or 90?) days. If you have an rs-account, I could temporary put the demos on a ftp.

Dear Critics Lounge,

I've just finished another background and fortunately recorded its creation.

Abstaubers background tutorial

I'd still like to have some critics about my creation ;)

Hope you like the tutorial and thanks for c&c!

Thanks for all your responses :) I'm glad that you'll like it!

@eternal_renegade: I'm on vacation for the next 4 weeks, so I may contact you afterwards. And pixel-help is always appreciated :)

Here's the whole deal... The Story of Vestibule

Just as it was sent to me in 2001 ;)

@Captain Mostly: PM me if you want this to be taken down.

@olaf
Thanks for the extensive review!

Plotting:
These are great hints and I'm still working on the characters. My idea is to start with Chris and Eric being somehow the same. Then seperate them and let them develop independently.

Eric & Chris walking scene:
This scene has been inspired by anime movies... they use that "effect" some times. At first I wanted to add some paralax scrolling, but the object.move function is just way too fast. It would have looked as they were flying. Honestly I've seen that scene so often, I just forgot that it looks odd ;)

GUI:
The first reason is rather mundane: 60 pixels less to draw  ::) I also like the panoramic look, the scenery gets, a nearly square background is less dynamic.
I think DOTT never distingishes between push and pull (or open and use) anyway but they kept it for optical reasons... but maybe I should replace the GUI with a 3 verb buttons and the rest for the inventory. I keep that in mind :)

Thanks again!

Anyone else?

btw. there are few german named game with an english language - like Uebersoldier or Angst (okay, that's really old)
#2147
Oh alright, that makes it clear. I've removed the paint.net image. But as I have used a photo as a template and partly drew over it, I've also added another entry completely in your requested style.

I'm a little tired of loosing competitions because of not doing what the host had requested  ;)
#2148
*cough* 2009 *cough* even though that's optimistic too ;)

@neon
For the german version let's see how the story develops. As my english skills are somewhat limited *looks above* I might need a translator or at least a guy helping me with the language.
But I think the english version will have priority.

@Peder
Thanks a lot :) I thought I could finish a playable room before I'll be on vacation, but first story needs to be pointed out.

Here's the game we're currently working on:

ShattenReyze
This game will be multilingual (english and german for starters) and features a modified scumm gui plus some elements from Loom.
Also there will be at least two fully playable characters which you can already see on those screenshots

Great contest topic, as I'm I was still not pleased with my avatar.

(60px x 60px)
Colors:I thought I've used only around 30 colors, but counting with another programm tells me around 60 colors... strange.

By the way, it's a real pain(t) in the a** to draw with mspaint... and to be honest: we already have the paint game, I don't really see the need of this restriction.

The Bonus(?):
(140px × 185px)
Colors: Still less than 200? ;)
Does this count as an bonus entry, I made this not especially for the contest and used with Paint .net (using a layer to rotoscope and added a gradient)?

Edit:
I tried to mimic your style for another entry (and followed the rules exactly ;) )

Anyway, it's a nice topic - I'm excited who you all see yourselves ;)

Just play the ga.... no wait, you probably can't do that  ::)

Spoiler

The Vestibule is the entry to the land of eternal cake. Furthermore the vestibule is the crossroad for Stone and maybe the whole society he's living in.

I don't know if this is on purpose but for I circus-theme I'd use brighter colors. Your image looks like I imagine a summer scotland  :D
#2154
Well, if you count buildings inside the jungle as jungle too.. then yes  :)

But we also planned to spend some time in the after life (The land of eternal cake), everything else takes place in a village and its surroundings (being the jungle).

I mostly use Wintermute and SCRAMM, but if I'm just making an hour game I tend to go with GLUMOL.

Hey, at least Wintermute's got a release  ;)

I honestly tried to use AGAST one time but when it came to define the walkable area, I ran back to AGS as fast as I could.

'Indy and the' was a typo  ;D

But I suppose Tale of Roland might be the only full game among those others. Anyhow - do you have an email Account which can handle a few mails?
#2157
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm still a little upset about the Vestibule (even after all those years ;) )

@wpowell:
I'm not sure, if this game is ever going to be developed by the same team again (the sun might freeze over  earlier). However I've got material (backgrounds + sprites) for about 3 rooms left.
So if anyone wants to continue on The Vestibule, drop me a PM. If it really gets ported to AGS 3.0 and those 3 rooms have been added, I might do the graphics again.

For the first room - there's also a "daylight" version of it, which is brighter.
