Your color theory and lighting/composition are actually pretty good, so you've already got a good starting point. I like the overall design, and my only real crit is that you stayed with a pretty loose brush the entire time, which works well for the fur textures, but not so much for the bars or bricks. I'm assuming this was a speedpainting though and based on your working knowledge of color and light I doubt I'm telling you anything you don't already know.

It's really good!

I didn't get to finish mine, so if it's not acceptable as-is feel free to take it out of voting. I've got a half finished ink job in photoshop right now but it looks worse than what I've already posted.

Where the hell did the time go this weekend?

Thanks!

Eventually this summer I'm going to stop lurking in the competition and art threads and start making a few simple games, but right now I'm still trying to relocate my C++ knowledge from college 10 years ago while I teach myself C# and XNA.

Also I did a few space backgrounds a while ago for openRPG and posted them in one of their forums, I'm going to see if I can dig them up and re-size them for AGS and the resource thread.

Just got around to this, so hopefully I'll make the deadline, but if not I wanted to post the rough. I took some liberties with the concept and went for more of a "barren wasteland... of space" feel, but hopefully I'll capture the rest.

Gonna break out the acrylics and try to paint it this weekend, otherwise I'll see if I can just ink it and color in Photoshop.

Just noticed this was open voting, and the entries were really good, so I thought I would vote.

Idea: ERIC As far as realism goes and attention to the theme, I thought this one was the best
Atmosphere: WHAM  It looks very relaxing, but also a place where a stressful event could occur, I just see that room having multiple uses
Design: Yoke 2.0 The attention to detail in this room was definitely the best. I love that rug!
Composition: ERIC Everything in that room looks like an item worth investigating
Functionality: WHAM I feel like this would be the easiest room to navigate in a traditional adventure game, but Yoke's room is a CLOSE second place
Technique: YOKE 2.0 I've got to say that as far as technique goes, this room is the best in it's field. Lighting, texture, etc. are all really well done.

Really good work on everyone's part!

I'm voting for Kastchey.

These are all really good!

I just joined, so I didn't get to spend much time on this, but I wanted to have something entered before it ended.

edit: also yes... I didn't have photoshop at work or my tablet (used mouse + win7 paint) so I looked to see which shade of blue my post would end up under, then used a screenshot to grab the color from paint for my transparent background, so no one delete their post :)

Abstauber that looks fantastic!

Which atom board did you go with? Did you use one of the dual core atom boards with the nVidia ION graphics or go with one of the older models so it could be fanless? (including the fan over the processor)

I only asked because I figured you'd be better off with the older cheaper atom board for playing the classics, as sometimes now the newer hardware can over accelerate older games.

I'm actually doing a similar build with a miniITX mobo and an old NES, since through the miracle of luck the miniITX boards line up perfectly on the bottom of a gutted NES and two of the screw holes even line up on several models of the board.

I'd love to see a video of this setup when you get a chance to update to DX9.

Again, awesome build!

New guy here, so I thought I'd start off by joining in on the pancake fun.

I use the following recipe.

Deluxe Pumpkin Pancakes

6 eggs
4 cups flour
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
1 can "canned pumpkin" (it's in the canned vegetable aisle in your grocery store, about $1 a can)
2 teaspoons cinnamon

I mix the eggs, flour, milk, and canned pumpkin first. After that, I sometimes add a little more flour and/or milk until it hits that perfect consistency. It's hard to be exact because when you add the pumpkin, depending on the brand it might be a little more watery and throw off your mix so you have to adjust on the fly.

After that I add the sugar and cinnamon. Feel free to add more of either one, or both.

Six eggs is a lot, so I usually just save the leftover batter for the waffle maker the following morning, just to change things up a little.

That's it!

P.S. Ghost, is your sig from Titan A.E.? If so, that's a fantastic sig.

Another wild new guy appears!

Hello, I'm Johnathon and I'm a 28 year old IT Monkey for a very large company that I hope to one day escape from so that I can focus on what makes me happy. Like everyone else born in the 80's I grew up with adventure games, my favorite being Maniac Mansion (NES version). I've always wanted to create a game, and took a few years of C++ programming in college (10 years ago, so don't hold me to it) but I've dusted off the old textbooks and decided that there's no better time to get back into the thick of it.

I founded Pink Pineapple Ink with my wife in 2011 as a place to house our separate webcomics that we create and also as a place that will one day house our massive media empire as we toil away on paintings, novels, comics, and one day a small line of entertaining adventure games. (hopefully)

Between picking up the Monkey Island series on the Steam Summer Sale last year and seeing all the fantastic Sierra talent that's recently come back into the spotlight thanks to Kickstarter, I got the bug to finally jump back into the passion project that is creating an adventure game.

Looking forward to hanging around and hopefully contributing to the AGS machine of awesome.

Thanks!
