General Discussion / Breakup drama
Sun 12/04/2015 15:10:35
Sadly I will not be joining mittens this year.

The reason for this is that, sadly enough, a few months ago [my  girlfriend] and I broke up.
As I'm still processing this very sad and not easy change of life, I feel I better skip this year.

For that same reason I am not active anymore on the forums. I've put my projects, as the 'LSL1 remake',
indefinitely on-hold. I do hope to pick up working on them in the future though, but now I'm still lacking the energy.

Sorry to bother you with this.

@All: Enjoy your Mittens 2015 trip.

Regards,
-arj0n

I was wondering why the uploaded images in the CGA Screensaver's gamedatabase page are broken as soon as their url is transformed into the adventuregame studio url.

This is how the gamedatabase page images look in my browser at home and at my job:

While in the forum's complete games thread, the images does show up properly.

I feel a bit stupid to ask this but I can't seem to find a way to set the backgroundcolournumber of a gui within the script.
So is there a way to set/alter the backgroundcolournumber of a gui within the script?

General Discussion / Cracktro Music Album
Sun 15/02/2015 18:30:53
Remember the old but awesome Cracktro's that sometimes were included with a crack for DOS games?
By groups like Razor 1911, The Dream Team, Tristar, Red Sector, INC?

Well, I made a top 15 (MP3) of the best tracks used in these Cracktro's.
All of the selected ones were released between 1989 and 1994, the five golden Cracktro years.

DOWNLOAD MP3 MUSIC ALBUM (ZIP, 70mb)

Enjoy,
-arj0n 8-)

* Did some editing at some endings (cause the track was build to loop) using schismtracker,
* Converted them to WAV and again some editing like smooth fading out with Audacity,
* Converted them to 320kb MP3's,
* Add cover art images (of the running cracktro) per track, an album cover image (collage) and a playlist.

While running a project from within the editor, the projects crashed after a second or two.
AGS version: AGS Editor .NET (Build 3.3.3.0) v3.3.3, December 2014.
Dump file: >here<

(not sure if this should be posted here or elsewhere on the forum...)

EDIT:
While I ran the same project from within the editor today, it crashes again after half a minute:

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and post the details on the AGS Technical Forum.
Most versions of Windows allow you to press Ctrl+C now to copy this entire message to the clipboard for easy reporting.
An error file CrashInfo.dmp has been created. You may be asked to upload this file when reporting this problem on the AGS Forums. (code 0)

Not sure if this adds any information, but here's a screenshot of the crash:

The Colonel's Bequest - An in-depth comparison between the graphics used in the demo vs. the released game.

The demo of The Colonel's bequest seem to contain several 'beta-phase' graphic items which were later changed in the released game.

On closer inspection, all kinds of items from the demo like backgrounds, portraits objects and walkcycles/characters
seem to have tiny little differences compared to the same in the released game, version 1.000.046.

Some of you might still remember those digital 'Season's Greeting' cards from Sierra, back in the late 80's and the early 90's...

So here's a a little XMAS retro gift (made in AGS): >Download<

Hope you enjoy it ;)

While in the show preview pane of a view of a mouse icon, I changed and saved the delay of the view to 16. While running the game, the mouse icon animates still quickly (default speed?).
So that way doesn't affect the animation speed while running the game.

Question: how do I set the delay/speed of a mouse icon view/animation?

Hello fellow AGS'ers,

My Leisure Suit Larry 1 (EGA, AGI) Remake is close to getting into it's Beta Phase.

Therefor I'm looking for a set of Betatesters who are (preferably, but not required) in a way familiar with LSL1.
(That is the 1987 AGI EGA version, not the 1991 Sierra Remake or the 2013 Reloaded Remake.)

So I am looking for Betatesters who can break the game and try all the ways (also the non-logical ways) the game can be played.
(This also means I'm not really looking for just Playtesters who only play/test the game the linear way)

If you're interested, please let me know by PM or just post in this thread.
(and if you are familiar with LSL1, please do note so)

:)

Thanx,
-arj0n

I seem to have a problem for a while now with the setup.exe from compiled and it's driving me nuts :(

What is wrong with the display of the ags setup.exe screen on my pc?
I really hope someone has a clue so I can fix this...

Two examples of the setup screen below.
In each image is the one on top the setup.exe running on my pc, and the lower one the same setup.exe on tamara's running on pc.

(Not sure where to post this, so I went here)

When trying to run my project in full screen using no Graphics filter & Graphics = Direct3D 9, I got an Illegal exception:
An exception 0xC0000094 occurred in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x00489FA4 ; program pointer is -179, ACI version 3.3.0.1162, gtags (0,0)

CrashInfo.3.3.0.1162.dmp

Any idea what happens here? (it's reproducible)

So I have a midi file.
I'd like to have it converted to a wav or mp3 but sounding like the pc speaker/beeper.

As I'm a noob fir midi, is it possible to 'convert' a midi file to wav (or mp3) PLUS make it sound like pc speaker sound (beeps), and if it is possible, how?

Just thought to share this video I made today of a beautiful garden
bumblebee, working his yellow ass off in the flower boxes on my balcony.

Hai there,

I've been working on a new 'Background Blitz Screensaver 2.0 Deluxe'.
The old screensaver was build in a lame way and there has been a lot of new background blitz entries since 2010...
The new screensaver will again be a kind of a 'background blitz museum' to preserve the blitz entries (cause lot's of hosted
background blitz entries has disappeared) and to show what ags people are capable of art-wise :)

So, since the skeleton of this screensaver now works 100% properly it's time to work out
categories for the blitzes because this screensaver will give you the possibility to:

  • select one of the predefined playlists
  • create your own playlist by activating/dis-activating multiple categories.

So far I thought of these categories:
  • Sceneries/Landscapes/Nature (not sure if Nature is actually a different category compared to Sceneries/Landscapes)
  • Cityscapes/Urban
  • Underground
  • Water
  • BuildingExterior
  • BuildingInterior
  • Historical/Ancient
  • Mythical/Fantasy/Sci-fi
  • Space/Alien
  • Gaming
  • Nigh-time
  • Transportation

Art-categories is also something I might want to use. Examples:
  • Pixelart
  • Low-res
  • Black&White
  • Handdrawn
  • Cartoon
  • Realistic

But it's a bit tougher (for me although) to know when, for example, a bblitz is pixelart or not. Same for handdrawn.

My question for you:
Can you please post usable category examples in this thread for the background blitzes?
Much appreciated!

So, this is the situation in short:

I have:
1. a set of sprites in the sprite editor.
2. a random selected sprite (int spritenum) (this happens in the global script, in the always_execute function).
3. a gui that shows the random selected sprite for x seconds.
4. a menu where you can activate/dis-activate categories (about 20)

What I'm looking for is this:
for each category I do know the collection of sprites that does fit within each category.
Now, after a random sprite has been selected, I'd like to check if this specific chosen sprite does exist in each category.

if so (the category does contain this random sprite number): show sprite
if not (the category does not contain this random sprite number): choose another random sprite

So, is there something like a data collection I can create where you can store a bunch of, in this case, numbers and check the random sprite (int spritenum) against such data collection?
