Just create a Timer pointer, timer and check/validation either local or global.

Were they doing something to the water that ran downstream to their enemies?

No, but they were doing something on the water...

Repurposing the windmills into giant throwing stars, destroy one whole troop in its way in each throw? Their use of clean energy angered nuclear powered Godzilla, making him throw these stuff around.
Spoiler
It's questionable to have throwing stars when Godzilla is already around though.

Bongs?

Could have been, but no.  :-D

Tip 1 was: it is related to water
Tip 2 is: it is related to speedy transport

This happens for example if you have compiled folder opened in windows explorer. It blocks game exe for some reason and does not let editor update it.
Another possibility - Windows Defender or antivirus.

I never have the compiled folder open in the explorer because of this, so that can't triggered this msg.
Usually the Windows default antivirus doesn't block anything AGS related, but maybe it was scanning the AGS project folder in the background during compilation.
Anyway, it doesn't occur anymore now.
Thanx for the reply, CW.

Out of the blue I keep getting this error message at the end of compiling the game:
Unable to set EXE name/description: Unable to replace resource: EndUpdateResource for 00000001 failed: 00000005

The game does compile correct though.
When leaving the game description empty (general settings) and recompiling: still getting the error msg
After restarting the laptop: still getting the error msg
AGS version in use:
AGS Editor .NET (Build 3.5.0.27)
v3.5.0, October 2020

EDIT:
And after several attempts, the message suddenly doesn't appear anymore...

I hope bug squashing is going on smoothly, I can't wait to try your take on Desolate. :)

Yeh, I think most of it is tackled now, so you can expect a release soon  :)

That's because one of the lines in one of your dialogs has more than 500 chars.
It's not in the Global script or local scripts, just check all your dialogs in the Explore Project tree, and look for line 222 in them.

Perhaps some apparatus/technology that allowed them to control water levels (i.e. locks along inbound canals) around the Netherlands?
Smart answer, but no...

It is water related though  :)

During the 'Eighty Years' War aka 'Dutch War of Independence' (1568â€"1648)
against Philip II of Spain, the Spanish soldiers couldn't beat the Dutch because
of one specific item the Dutch used which, was unknown to the Spanish soldiers.

What was that item?
