General Discussion / Re: Big Thanks

Hey, welcome to the AGS community. This is quite a friendly community, and I'm sure you'll get the hang of everything in no time.
Yep, we all thank Chris Jones (creator of AGS) for the work that he has, and still is putting into making ags the best engine available for making adventure games.

And your from australia too. There are quite a few of us here you know...

Yeah I agree with most people here about the evils of installers... except as netmonkey pointed out, larger programs should have an installer. AGS is not a large program. I don't want an installer messing with my computer. With a zip, I know exactly whats happening, and everythinks hunky dory...

Good work with the sprite pixelcat. It would be nice to see another SQ game if you decide to look into it.

That is an awesome edit Farlander. The only thing that iritates me is one dark pixel below the mouth.

Oh wow, so it is, thanks TK. I did look at those options before, but I guess it didnt stand out...

Its looking good. No major things that annoy me, basically what everyone else said.
One thing that wasnt in the old boards, but this being a good place to bring up, is a quick reply box at the bottom of threads. That would be very very useful. So if it possible, could that be implemented?
#627
Finihed it. Awesome game.

I havnt finished the game yet, but I have noticed a few things.
*Like eric said the speed is a little slow. Maybe have an option to change it would be nice, and not too hard to implement.
*Its probably a bit late now, but although most of the art is of a very high standard, there are a few backgrounds that dont quite fall into the quality of the others.
*The lack of much different background music at times anoyed me. Like during the intro, I was expecting some carnival tune to come on, but there was not much sound at all. (ok, listening again, there is music during the game... either something broke, or my speakers were turned down...  :P)
*I found a bug, I'm sorry if its been mentioned already: If you walk into the Potion Building and before you get in the door, click somewhere else, Alexander walks to where you clicked, but still enters the room (I found this by seeing the cat as i clicked to enter the house and going 'Hey, thats where the cat is... and clicking again...)
*I don't know if this is to do with your game or AGS, but if I alt-esc out and go into windows, and come back, all speech etc only briefly flashes up on the screen. I found that saving the game and restoring it fixed the problem. (also, this doesnt happen all the time... weird)
*This has been mentioned, but when you use the dog on cat, the dog turns into the blue cup for a few frames..

Anyways... love the game, and I am still having fun playing it. Awesome work with the humour. Good luck with future games.

Man, I really hate channel 7. Ever since they had the Olympics in 2000 (and probably before that too) theyve constantly had annoying shows (oh lets think up another reality show to compete with the other channels........ yeah thats what we all want), and their ads are just so annoying... especially Today Tonight with Naomi someone, who is the most annoying presenter ever. That show is one of the worst on TV. Its always just copying A Current Affair, or vice versa.

And now the most annoying ads ever... the ones for Cheap Doors... If you live near Woolongong in Autralia then you will knw what I'm taling about...
Like who cares about doors. No one is gonig to say, 'Hey, I need a new door' after seeing the ads... and the ads are just so bad, I have to mute or change the channel everytime.
Think... doors doors doors doors, doors doors doors doors, doors doors doors doors, doors doors doors doors... being repeated as an accending chant... and thats only one of them... Other ones force us to listen to other annoying songs, with more annoying voices... Arghh!!1!!1
Its like they deliberately make it bad. And I'm sure thats why they do it, just so the name Cheap Doors sticks in our head...

Well enough of my rant about tv.
btw, I've come to realise that most tv is just stupid. Now I only really watch Alias, and Monach of the Glen...

General Discussion / Re:Australian/NZ accent
Tue 27/04/2004 14:38:54
I used to know a guy from Queensland, and I do remember that he said 'ay' alot. This was a few years back, but yeah, I even picked up on it for a while and used to say it a bit... and I'm from Wollongong, which is nowhere near queensland, so it was a bit weird... I think thats why I stopped.

And as you sat Timosity, understanding foreign english accents are really hard sometimes. Half my lecturerers at uni are asian, and it is really hard to understand them. I'm getting used to it now, but at first it was very hard.

And I'm not being racist... I know that it must be hard for migrants coming from overseas having to learn english.

Heh, just last week we got broadband. It is very cool, I can finally download stuff 5x. Yeah its only 256/64, but its better than 56k.

General Discussion / Re:What do you DO?
Thu 22/04/2004 04:16:25
I've just started my first year at University of Woolongong. I'm studying Computer Science, which at them moment involves, learning about algorithms (which we already learnt about in high school), c++ programming (which is pretty cool, except some of the lectureres arent so cool), maths (which I thought I had finished doing in high school) and statistics (what this has to do with computer science beats me... its pretty boring).

And I'm currently unemployed. I need a job. Like everyday mums telling me I gotta get a job, cos I'm costing my parents heaps... oh well.

AGS Games in Production / Re:King's Quest 2.5

It sounds pretty cool, judging from peoples comments. I can't download it at the moment cos I'm at uni, but when I get home, I'll check it out.
It's good to see another quality sounding KQ game in the making.

Hmm, I can't decide which idea I like better. Sure, I agree that there is a problem with the Critics lounge, but having a beginners forum might discourage certain users. Like as people said before, the issue of n00bs and elitism.

I actually like the idea of a separate forum for art and music etc. That would split the topics into better catagories...

But now that I think of it more, I think having a beginners critics forum is a good idea. It just needs to be implemented properly.
#635
It sounds very cool. Yeah the harpsicord is a little out i think. And at 50sec, it seems to pause with the synth... and also at 1:50. The ending is a little sudden, but i assume that i might not be finished
#636
Its looking really cool. I like how its progressed.
Some things:
*Yeah as Gilbot said, the shadow shouldnt cover the grass at front.
*I dont know how your drawing this, but some parts look pretty blurry, like the trees in the foreground, and that annoys me.
* The clouds should be more white, unless you want them orange for some reason in your game.
* The mountans probably should continue more on the right to the end of screen
*More detail would be nice on the grass, as its a little plain.

Well, anyways, theres my thoughts. Good work.
