I agree with Scummbuddy on the mountain thingy. The bottom of the mountains should be much higher up than the floor of the art gallery building.

Other than that, I think it's a perfectly functional background for a game already. Well done

I think the animation is great, and Mr Colossals suggestion fits it to a tee.

Just two small points:

- That gun looks pretty heavy. I think she'd have trouble aiming with a single hand.

- IMO her belly is a tiny bit too staight in the standing frame and I think the swaying of the hair is slightly too much.

But that's just nitpicking. Congrats on a great animation.

As ProgZmax said, less frames would probably be better.

In order to avoid that funny torso movement, you should make sure the horizontal alignment of his head is always the same. Otherwise the torso and the head will keep moving back and forth for no good reason. Just like ProgZ did.

Lots of potential there Mr. Fibble... good work.

I like the sprite a lot.

I'm not going to animate it, because I have to go to bed, but you might find the following advice useful. This is the way I've been doing it lately and my walkcycles look ok.

- When the stride begins or ends, the head should be about one pixel higher than the standing pose. (1)

- Whenever the stride is wide open, the head should be about one pixel lower than the standing pose. (2)

So from left to right:

(1) (1) (2) (2) (1)
(1) (1) (2) (2) (1)

Then you should get your bobbing more or less right (it might still need some more tweaking. You might also want to have some frames at the same height as the standing pose, for smoothness sake).

I would get rid of the fourth and ninth frames, IMO they're a bit redundant (also, in the ninth the guy seems to be flying).

Another small piece of advice: have boundaries for each frame, so you're sure they even out when cut and pasted into AGS. Otherwise chances are your character will end up Irish dancing all over the place.

G'luck.

I think it looks great. It has a real RON feeling about it.

Never in doubt...

;D

Thanks AGA for making that clear. Perhaps it's worthwhile to put it a the top of the voting page. Just a suggestion.

I'm very impressed, I must say.

Eleven quality games, all in one week.

Congrats on organising this comp. It really works.

EDIT: Just one thing. For the voting I'm assuming 5 is five points (best), and 1 is one point (worst). Right?

But I'm not going to vote until this is made clear.

I quite like it too.

My only criticism is in regard to the outlines. I just don't like different thicknesses, but then again, that's just an opinion.

The noise looks allright, you've kept it to a happy minimum.

As I said, good work.

It's awesome. Your artistic prowess will never cease to impress me.

Still, I agree with Peter Thomas, the wheels... just... gah!

Haddas.. you're a legend.

Love the squinkish look...

Oh, dying was ok, the painful thing was to die for things like going to the toilet. That and dead ends.

Otherwise Sierra games were pretty awesome.
#254
I got into adventure games with KQ1 and KQ2, and completed a lot of sierra games after that (PQ1 and 2, QFG 1, 2, 3 and 4, GR, CB...)

But when Monkey Island came along, I just couldn't get past it. Those awesome graphics, the wacky stuff, the cool GUI's... and no dead ends, guess-what-word-the-designer-was-thinking-of puzzles or dying! (yeah, ok, you could die in Indy games, but it was kinda fun).

Sierra had a special way, a certain charm. I still love looking back on Sierra games.

Yet, I'm more of a Lucas fan now.

I think the idea is pretty good, never mind apprentice.

Otherwise you could never have washed-out contests ever again.
#256
I think they're excellent. Only a couple of comments.

Side view:

I would bring his feet a couple of pixels back. To me, he looks a bit like he could fall backwards.

I've also changed his glasses a bit.

I don't think I've improved it much, though.

From behind:

His hair should probably be a bit longer.

BTW what are those bits coming off his ears?
#257
That walkcycle was pretty good, but it has improved leaps and bounds!

Just with the bounce: I think one pixel down when his legs are completely apart will do, IMO. Take it off his body, though, not off his neck. The finishing will probably be smoother that way.
#258
Color-indexing the large image before shrinking it down works ok for me. But it still needs some touching up afterwards.

Of course, it depends on how much detail you want to achieve.

Sorry Andail, I never meant to preach or seek confrontation. I just wanted to get my point across.

But I think we're digressing a bit now. Back on topic.

Then again, Pope was(I mean - was, is, and will be) extremely rare form of human being in our world. It's quite hard to imagine a man who raises hand and millions - if not billions of people look at him in ALL over the world, and their nationality, race, ethnics, etc - does not mean anything. Only the thing they believe in - counts. And the man doesn't need any weapons or anything like this. He's the Pope! Even if he's just for show, even if his title is just a formality -- if HE speaks, people will LISTEN to him talk. Also, John Paul II did alot in his life and moved much things around on this rock we call Earth.Ã,

Power like this is extremely awesome IMO, it unites human race in some way. I admire this.

But people like this are very rare. This is why Nobel prize was invented...

A great man has died.

I wholeheartledly agree with you, InCreator.

I quite like the sprite, but I agree with arboris.

Perhaps a more reddish/pinkish tone would be good, since he's supposed to be sunburnt.

Also, having a darker contour where his head shines probably does not make much sense. I guess that's up to the style you're aiming for.

Still it looks good.
