Thanks a lot, I see I was right to post in the beginners forum.  ;D

Excellent work. It's great to see new issues of the ezine coming out over and over again. I don't know if I would persevere for so long myself...

I love the interview with Dave Gilbert, and the upcoming games bit is quite interesting too. I didn't know about most of those. That certainly gives me something to look forward to on the adventure games front.

On a personal note, I thought the review on my latest game was a bit negative :-\ In fact, it's hard to find a single good point aside from "the idea is quite cool".

At the end of the day, you may like “Abducted: 10 minutes” only if you really like the plot, or if you are masochistic.

I honestly didn't think it was that bad... Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered making and releasing it.

But feedback is always a good thing, I guess. Thanks for taking the time to play and write the review.

Perhaps a bit of a silly one here.

I'd like the player to get one or another ending depending on the final game score. For instance, if the score is:
$
<50 get the "Total Loser" ending.
50-75 get the "Keep Trying" ending.
75-100 get the "You Champion" ending.

I suppose I need to use the "game.score" global var, which I've found in the manual. However, I'm not sure about how to  enter the statement. Would it be just...

if ((game.score) > 75))

{
//"You Champion"
}

and so forth?

Cheers.

To me it sounds like spaceship stuff...

I'm amazed at your ability to produce quality games. Congratulations.

BTW, I love that Goya picture above the door.

The shading on his neck looks a bit funny.

If it grows downwards, it should be because his head drops slightly.

Also, his face and his collar look too static in comparison with the rest of the body.

That's interesting... I never thought it'd be difficult to find that spot. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hints & Tips / Re: 10 Minutes help

I also wrote a walkthrough. Check in the Completed Games Forum.
#331
I had some trouble uploading, and maybe I wasn't successful as I thought.  :-[

Thanks for letting me know. I'll make sure I check, but it'll have to be later. I don't have the time right now.

In any case, you can pretty much dl the previous version and play it through to get 100 points, the bugs are minor.

Hey Darth, that's excellent character art, as usual.

I loved the Adventures of JP and Cosmo and I'm looking forward to another game of yours.

I have one small comment to make, it's with regard to the last guy on the right (the bossy-looking blue one in green): To me, his body looks a tiny bit "square". I would take the centre part of his waist down, and push the sides of his body a little bit in (or out). His facial expression is also a bit... sad?

It looks great anyway. Just a thought.Ã,  Ã,

You need something to open the boot. That's were the magnet is.

I've completed it. I used some hints from the forum but I didn't use the walkthrough.

Btw, I completed the game, but I got only 87 points ^^.

Keep trying, go for 100.

BTW, I said I had caught all bugs.

Alas no! A couple of them lived on.

I have uploaded a bug-freer version. DL available from the first post or from the AGS page.

I inked the sketch and tried again. The first pic shows the final product, the second is just colored in flat. I followed some of Highwaygal's instructions.

Some of the shading looks ok to me, but overall I think there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Would anyone like to have a stab at it?
#336
QuoteI know you don't want c&c on the sketch, but I'm not too keen on it, if the lineart doesn't work, neither will the coloured sketch.

I guess you're right there. Perhaps I was a bit self-confident.

QuoteAnyhoo. The lines don't "flow". Do a few gesture drawings (quick drawings meant to capture the movement, pose, and rhythm of a subject) and you will surely improve in that aspect.

That's very interesting feedback actually. However, this is just intended to be a girl in a static pose. I'm not sure how to introduce "flow" here.

QuoteMoving on to the colouring, I suppose you could go for a Shane Glines-ish approach, which appears (to me) to suit your style, and is generally just rock awesome.

It probably does fit my style, sort of. But I prefer outlines - I should probably try inking the sketch like somebody suggested before.

QuoteThe coloured edges seem too angular, some are anti-aliased and some are not, wich creates incosistency.

I think you're right.

QuoteMy suggestion is to a) improve the sketch, it has potential.
b) study some of Shanes art, if this is the style you are trying to achieve, and c) try using the pen tool instead of the lasso tool for this kind of colouring, with no outlines.

a) Thanks, I'll give it another go.
b) I think I'll give old Shane a miss for the moment, even if it's quite an interesting suggestion for the future.
c) I'll see what I can do with the pen.

Here's a new pic.

#1 is the sketch once colored in and without the sketch marks.
#2 is the sketch once colored in and with the sketch marks.
#3 is the sketch itself.

I think it's going well and looks pretty good as long as you don't pay too much attention. I like #2 the best, but it's not quite "clean" enough.

I've also hit a bit of a wall now: I'm not sure how to deal with shading.

Comments on coloring in/shading are most welcome. Comments on the sketch are too, but I'm not as interested.

General Discussion / Changing profile settings
Sun 21/11/2004 10:32:53
I've noticed there's a new profile setting: "Games I've made".

I'd like to add the games I've made, but I can't modify it. It's funny, because I seem to be able to modify just about everything else.

???
#339
Oh, I see. That's clever actually, I thought it'd be much more complex.

I've played with my little brothers quite a few times. We've had a ball.

A couple of suggestions from the most devoted HLoBB fans (I don't know hard these would be to implement):

1. A "plain" level:
- Just run up to each other and punch.
- No bouncing aside from the jumping ability of each player.

2. General stuff:
- Make static punches available (even if these only do little damage).
- Specific speed and punching features for each player. For instance, Henry VIII is big and fat, so he should build up speed more slowly, punch harder and jump a bit less than the others. Ghandi should be super fast, do little damage and jump heaps. And so forth.

Just some ideas...

You're right Duzz, it's much easier to win against two. I can't beat the computer one on one.

One thing: during the selection process, the bottom grid is supposed to be filled out with the characters you choose (I assume). However, only player 1 is displayed. It looks like a bug to me.

BTW, what I really love is the AI. You really gotta tell me how you do it.

Spoiler

- I believe it's somehow related to the actions your player attempts. For example, in the bouncing castle, wheenver I begin to jump, the computer will do the same.

- Also, the computer players barely ever try to pick up the powerups. They seem to get them by chance rather than intentionally.
