General Discussion / Re: World Cup 2006

Just got back from Noho, where the people are going apeshit in the streets.

The best soccer team in the world couldn't beat the Americans!

Cause for celebration in my book.

MI was inspired by the ride, but I don't think there was a voodoo lady in the ride.

Did the crew of Flying Dutchman make anyone else crave kalamari? Tempura? I know I left the theater with a hankering for sushi.

Ugh. I hate this recent trend of long movies. It may have not been much longer than the first one, but I was very aware of its length throughout.

To me, it felt like the Matrix Reloaded, a meandering (needless) sequel which never really manages to stand on its own feet. A lot of the same jokes (or references to them) were present. It feels kind of cheap to assume that the 3rd movie will fill all the plot holes.

Orlando Bloom's character really pissed me off, with his one dimensional personality. He never shows fear or weakness, so he loses credibility with a human audience. I would say all the character's were flat, except for Jack.

Was the voodoo lady in her stilted house on the river copied from MI?

Funny how this thread got more attention:

I guess AGSers know more about getting the girl than getting rid of her.

Not sure what you mean, cp.

Didn't expect compliments, but thanks, guys. I don't deserve them and there are plenty of competent people here to help the CL live on.

By "professional", I meant that I have experience (salary and contract), so I can always give that angle. These forums and the community itself is amateur by nature, so there's no sense in formalizing it and losing the fun.

It's certainly not the right thing to suggest that "changes" be made to the Critic's Lounge.
For all you know, those "changes" involve you getting paid every time you post, Steve. ;)

Like I said before, this is not a thread to talk about the dispute. It has been an ongoing thing for quite some time, and it doesn't look like it can be resolved. I haven't seen a good enough reason to remain and prolong it. However, I'd like to stay available if people want my opinion or help, which is why I mentioned the HEP forums.

I can't wait for the sequel.

Hey guys, I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but just want to keep you all up to date. Due to an unresolved dispute, I will be leaving the Critic's Lounge section. I don't want to go into the details, but it's messy and the word "abrasive" was thrown around like an unwanted baby.

I will still be making games, so no worries. I probably will continue to post in a few of the other sections, too. So it's not like I'm peacing on you guys.

This situation could be temporary, and I may return if some changes are made.
Until then, if anyone wants specific crits or advice, post in here: http://herculeaneffort.com/yabb/index.php?board=6.0
and I'll be more than happy to help you out to the best of my ability. As a professional game developer, I can offer a different perspective, so it's in your favor.

Let me just emphasize that this is an informational thread. I'm not throwing a tantrum or to quote DGMacphee, kicking the cat (cracks me up), but rather just letting people know where to go if they want a crit from me. Let's keep this light.

You're thinking too hard (even posting this thread proves that). Women are more emotional than rational.

You don't have too much to lose. If it's just sex, you win. If it turns out to be a relationship, guess what? It sounds like you want that, so you win again! Awesome!

@Layabout: I think the most hard part of making a relation is to be loved by the girl (or at least having her impressed physically); and it seems like you have already passed this. The next parts wouldn't be hard now; that chief can be easily "taken care". (I mean talking with him and telling him you won't hurt her, you love her etc. :D )

Paste...

To LJUBI, I never said anything about love. I said I liked her. I may grow to love her perhaps. But it is far too early for that.

This list proves that, when it comes to "new" releases, Hollywood is no different than the porn industry.

How about watching the French team struggle, unable to score on the up-and-coming Swiss team? They had that on the TV at my gym, and I nearly laughed out loud on several occasions. You could see how angry the Frenchies were getting, too. Stomping their tiny feet and yelling fairy-speak at each other. :)

Made my day.

Hints & Tips / Re: apprentice 2

Sorry the game frustrated you. It's probably poor puzzle design on my part. :(

A German translation is a great idea. Unfortunately, Apprentice 2 has much more dialogue than the first one, and I'd feel pretty bad if someone had to translate it for free.

I'll look into it.

The walking dead the walkthrough mentions was in an older version of the game. As for the wyrm:

Spoiler
It's not a walking dead, since attempting to open the valve will intiate a conversation with the wyrm, one you couldn't have by simply talking to him. It's through this conversation that you can convince him to give you the books back.

That's a good point about direction. Some sort of to-do checklist for every aspect (story, art, puzzles, music, scripting, etc.) would definitely help out people wanting to contribute.

Originally, we wanted to have several small teams each making a chapter of the game. I think this method works much better. The forums could use some reorganization. Good catch.
#155
Sweet! How would you feel about putting it on these forums, too?

Save the personal attacks/observations for another place, BB.Ã,  This is the Critics Lounge, not the 'OMG FURRYZ R WAK' forum.Ã,  Thanks.

I critiqued the concept behind the sprites. Not all crits are technical, you know. Thanks.

A reference photo section is definitely a good idea. I'll look into it when I get home. Remember that everything on the Wiki is open to discussion on the forums.

Besides being a furry at heart, I CAN'T DRAW SMALL BOOBS ^T\./T^.

I'm not sure which half of this sentence scares me more.

I must admit that little animal smiley at the end is pretty disturbing also. This isn't the first time I've encountered the furry obsession, and I just don't get it. Is it the result of parents over-sheltering their kids? During those fragile transition through puberty, surely you have access to something closer to porn than Disney movies? Or is it the bed full of endearingly marketable stuffed animals that triggers it?

Perhaps, just throwing it out there, an actual relationship (with a human) may substitute? I mean, from a scientific standpoint, isn't a little unnatural (not to mention counter-productive) to fantasize about another species?

I hope you don't live on a farm.

I have to say, this is the most impressive stuff I've seen from you yet! The upstairs bedroom and the bathroom are my favorites. I noticed that the dimensions vary slightly by piece. Are these backgrounds for an AGS game?

The four fingers shouldn't join the palm parallel to each other. Look at your hand again, paying specific attention to the area between your fingers. You'll notice it makes a nice curve, and the area by your pinky is much lower than that of the index or middle finger. Even when you tilt your hand away from your face, it's still quite apparent.

I would suggest spending blocking in colors and shapes before you spend a lot of time with fiddly soften and brush tools.
