If you need to put the word by the icon (or in the icon), the icon has failed. At that point, you are admitting the icon is nonsensical and you might as well omit it.

EDIT:

How about this? Do you think this is clear? I used a handgun instead of a knife, because while a knife can be used for many things, handguns were designed to kill people. I used the yellow background because the icons are advisories, or warnings.

I think the circle symbols communicate the "sex" aspect, but I'm not sure about nudity. A fig leaf would look too much like "drugs"...

Well, if accuracy is your goal, you should use Jeff Smith's drawings as reference for your sprites.

Here's a quick 3 color sprite for Bone to illustrate what I mean.

It's legal unless your planning on selling it.

You have been misinformed.

If those icons are revisited, they should be drawn without Roger to ensure clarity.

Perhaps something more symbolic, like:

Language: Exclamation marks plus a little skull
Sex: The male and female symbol (the o's with the tails)
Violence: silhouette of a handgun

Progz, those anims are great, especially the violence one!

SBslovegahjf, you seem to post quite a lot in nearly every forum category here.

Is this a serious question? I really can't read any humor into it, only cluelessness or stupidity. Is this what you want to project?

If you read m0ds' original post a little more carefully, you would discover that clicking on this button would direct your browser to the completed game's reciprocal thread in the Hints and Tips section. Not all that complicated, and a good idea.

The separate portrait picture is a good way to include a closeup of the character's face (which you may not ever see in low-res). This can give you, as an artist, an opportunity to explore details that make your character unique. A portrait can also be used to show lip-synching or facial expressions.

You should make the talking portrait bigger. Right now it's the same size as the sprite's head (or close) so it's redundant.

Hahahaahahahahaahahaha..... Oh, man, thanks for that. Nothing like an unfortunate little similitude to throw the whole thing off!

Alan Moore is an amazing writer and I was disturbed when I heard that the adaptation was directed by the W. Bros. Why should the only directors that can make a fight scene boring and unfulfilling (see matrix Reloaded) be saddled with translating such a classic graphic novel into movie form?

I'm pretty sure they stole the script for the original Matrix from someone else. Their other stuff just isn't on the same level, and even seems like a poor imitation of the original.

BTW Eggie, that comic is pretty long for being illegible. If you want to make a point badly enough you drew a comic, I would think at least you could translate it into font type, in case someone wanted to read it.

Personally, I don't think it's anything to write home about. I've seen a few episodes, and it seems like a pointless attempt to gross out an audience that staunchly refuses to be offended. South Park used shock value as a social commentary, while this employs it as an end in itself.

"Reality" TV is already a parody of real events (or semi scripted ones, anyways), so a self-proclaimed cartoon parallel is nonsensical.

that stupid Napster issue which happened years ago and had no real effect on most people one way or another

Reeeaaaally....

No real effect?

I never tried to justify downloading music for free. Pirating is illegal, and selling an outdated medium for such a high price is plain stupid. Just because I focused on the latter doesn't mean the former loses any validity.

Isn't the character a paintover of Eric's template?

Great points, Darth.

Just to reiterate, the record execs are serving us, the consumer. Our buying power supports them (either directly by product purchase or by investment). They need to pander to our needs. If we don't want CDs, they need to adjust, not us.

Why do you think Blockbuster set up an online system to compete with Netflix?

I see the music going completely digital, not just for price or convenience, but for selection.

I would do darken the edges on the right side of the room. The values are pretty similar, so they lose definition. Also, the arch on the window is not in perspective.

Def with Darth on this one.

The real tragedy is the shortsightedness of the record execs. They need to establish firmer lines of communication with their consumers. At Napster's height of popularity, they failed to recognize the underlying consumer behavior behind the illegal song sharing(even though it practically punched them in the face). People pirate the music not so much because they want it free, but because they are dissatisfied with the current model.

Instead of realizing this huge push for change and developing a new way to serve the consumers, the record execs spent millions in lawyer's fees to individually bring many of these people into court. Generally speaking, suing your customers isn't the best way to build a positive perception of your brand.

The iTunes model is a step in the right direction. However, I recently read that Steve Jobs wrote some of these execs a furious letter in response to their plan to raise the prices of downloadable songs. (They want to charge something like 2 bucks per song).

It demonstrates a misunderstanding of basic business principles on the execs' part. All business starts with a customer, not a product.

EDIT: As far as Metallica goes, they suck anus. Any band that takes a 7 year break (or whatever) from playing to go on a crusade against their listeners, can stay off my list. They've always been a pretty sissy band anyways; they always complain about other bands stealing their style or whatever.

Never seen the word "homo" used so often in a single thread before.

No stopping progress.

Hmmm...

Maybe it was a compliment?

The peeps at Geoseeker got so excited at the profesisonal quality of your game that they couldn't help themselves but attribute it to a bigger company (chosen at random, naturally).

Maybe figuring out the topic is all part of the challenge!

Possible leads:
Nature
Hole
Imagination
Plants
Organism
Reality

The secret to the topic may lie in some combination of those nouns. If only we could connect them!

Nah, anime is seen differently in the Japanese culture than the way we might view cartoons. Anime is a vehicle for many different tones of expression and doesn't carry the same connotations the American cartoon does.
I mean, I think your players will adjust, but the initial reaction won't necessarily be consistent.

As far as Helm's post goes, I'm not going to argue about business with you. We have very different educations and viewpoints on it, and it'll just cause frustration on both sides. HEP is not a real company, sorry to disappoint (I don't know what this "start from somewhere " venom is about). I'll leave the slogan as a joke that you didn't get.

Perhaps the whole recipe example was a bad analogy. Maybe it's more like a big minnow in a puddle next to a sea of sharks. The minnow brags about its size, well aware of the sharks next door.

Wow, that sounds like something from a bad fortune cookie. :(
