I like your style of backgrounds -- very moody.  It will be interesting to see what style you choose for your character art. One piece of advice: please draw your own title page background. You have the skills, leave the Hildebrandt stealing to someone else. :)

I have WinACE, which also works with .RAR files. I tried dling a third time, and still no luck. Any suggestions?

I dled the demo rar (twice, actually, just to make sure I got the full size), and there seems to be only one file inside (acsetup.cfg). What's the deal?

I like #4 the best because he has excellent contrast against the background. Great choice of colors! If he had bit more detailing on the face (like a mouth), he'd be perfect. It would be awesome if all the sprites in the game look as good as number 4.

Here's my entry.

50x80, 19 colors (including background and initials)

After the High Council declared war on the neighboring nation, it was the task of the Princess and Chief of Military (pictured above) to launch a thousand ships for the first attack.

I would try to add more contrast to your skin tones. It would help the faces look more dynamic and memorable. You could also experiment with specific lighting sources, or try rotating the portraits so they're not as frontal. As they are, they look precisely symmetrical. I would add lighten the highlights on the hair as well.

According to the rules this time, there should be space for the player to walk, which Opo's background does not provide. Also, he included a player sprite, which was also against the rules. Too bad this isn't a "draw a cutscene background" competition.

Hi guys,

I was looking for Neo Geo sprite sheets and I came across this.

There are a few sprite rips from FOA and MI2 on this page.

Enjoy.

Yeah, for background story I have a general idea (no written out lineages or anything) but I mostly make it up as we go along. Every time I make a reference to the past, I keep track of it (ex. Uncle Grimstone, Duraflex twine) to keep things consistent.

We derived Navy Joe from the word "Navajo" (Valley speak pronounciation :)) when we were trying to come up with a "look at" description" for the rug in Pib's room. That gave us the idea of a wandering peddler type character, who played a decent-sized role in The Knight's Move.

In the third game, I'm planning to have a part where Pib visits the ruins of Grimstone's laboratory. But I digress.

Guess I'll start off this one.

Didn't really turn out looking much like me, but hey, demons are bad, hitmen are bad, and smoking is bad for you.

In case anyone wants to know, I was listening to Steeler's Wheel - Stuck in the Middle while drawing this one.

Congrats, Magintz! That was the way I intended the puzzle to be solved. If you try to beat the mini-game inductively, you will only get frustrated.

Yufster, did these cramps just appear or are they the aftermath of an injury? Does the pain only appear at night?

If the cramps manifest in your calves, you can try pointing your toes, which sometimes will alleviate the pain.

If all else fails, some painkillers I reccomend (in order from weakest to strongest): Ibuprofen, Vicodin, Percocet. I believe you'll need a perscription for the last two (unless you have some generous athlete friends).

Hebrews 9:4 states: "...which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron's staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant."

Glad to hear people are enjoying it!

GarageGothic: Yes, indeed, that sunset is similar. I used the exact colors FT used because I wanted to evoke the same feel. You've got some good eyes there! You might want to take out an insurance policy on them or at least lock them in a safe when you go to bed at night.

JBiker51: I wish our cloning project didn't fall through, otherwise we could make a whole army of myselves and Gregors to work on multiple projects (maybe take over the world while we're at it). But right now, we both need to take a break from Apprentice and work on an entirely different (better?) project. I know that if I had to redraw one more frame of Pib, I would probably drop kick the monitor out the front window.

However, I have started the design document for Checkmate and come up with some (hopefully) pretty good stuff so far. It looks like the third installment will be longer than the second and have a bit of a darker tone.

As far as the name goes, we also realized the Apprentice misnomer, too. But between Master and Pib, Pib will always be Master's apprentice. I know this sounds like a cop-out, but it's also important for people to recognize that Checkmate belongs in the Apprentice trilogy.

The golem requires FRESH water, so salty brine does not fit the bill.

For your information,

there's no need to restart over the quill thing. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get the uniform or even meet the foolkiller if you haven't already taken the quill pen. If anyone has found otherwise, please let me know.

The bonus puzzle does not involve the wig room cutscene that occurs from the recruitment camp room. That was just an extra scene (which was kind of funny, but we probably should have left it out).

Ok, here's an edit of the sand on the road.

I hope it doesn't look too much like sludge now, but I used the pen tool to draw the outlines (as well as the slight purple shade and the darker red on the underside).

On your updated pic, I actually really like the brambles, but maybe that's just me (I'm a sucker for dark foregrounds).
#698
I know I'm really not helping you reach a decision here...

But I think the sand on the road would look better if it was crisper.

You could try upping its saturation and have a darker outline underneath.

Let me know if you would like me to post an edit.

I really like the warm colors you've chosen and the tower's contrast against the sky.

It reminds me of the art in Cartoon Network's Samurai Jack (US cable), which is a good thing.

One small critique - Everywhere in the picture you've used very clean bezier lines, but at the foot of the bridge, the border between the bridge and the red dirt is smudged. For consistency's sake, I would prefer a nice clean curve there instead.

Pushing Barry into the reactor shaft. Why should that "kill" him?
Why not cut his arms off with the machete after stunning him?
Ditto for John.

Because that would require a whole shitload of animation.

I think it would have been better without the days.
It wasn't very convincing that everyone would split up all the time when there was a killer on the loose.

My favorite part was after meeting at the bridge, they decided to use the escape pod. But first, a good night's rest. I was like, WHAT???
