Aw, poobungies.

I guess the original EGA colors aren't as popular as I thought.

I like the new outfit much better. It doesn't look like he escaped from a Rambo-style game anymore. :)

Geoffkhan: I think I already have a few ideas of what I could add to the redhead guy. Not sure why hid outfit looks familiar to you though, I didn't use any references for him.
Any ideas what I could do with the dragon? Changing colors would be easy (maybe blue?), but I'm not sure if it's enough of a change. Maybe I can do something with the animations?

Rather than going blue with Aldric, I would try a more rust-color. You could still leave some green in it, but the redness would complement the green in the backgrounds. Think pale.

About the redhead character: his outfit just looked familiar because it struck me as generic. With the sleeveless shirt and headband, he could be the guy from Contra (or Metal Slug?), some RPG, or a fighting game.

To clarify further, when I look at your main character, maybe his design isn't totally original with the witch's hat and all, but you've added enough to make him yours. Now if someone else posts a character with long red hair and a green buckle on a hat, I will think of your sprite. The headband guy is forgettable.

Write fan-fiction until the sequel comes out (sometime soon)?

It's a tentacled musician babe from the 80s planet. (Done using the original 16 EGA colors.)

Although the original picture is nice, I feel it lacks some details. For instance, where are the fish? If you're going to the trouble of drawing a tiny little moustache along her upper lip, you should at least grace the scene with some aquatic lifeforms.

It would be particularly smashing if you could show a little fish about to be eaten by a bigger fish, which is about to be eaten itself by an even bigger fish, et cetera ad nauseum.

Also, the girl's gumby legs disturb my artisitc sensibilities.

I admire the dynamism of Dart's edit. She transposes the tranquil scene into one of action and drama. It's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Arrg! It's the flappy hands from Eric's walking tutorial.

That might make a good horror movie title:

"The Return of the Curse of the Ghost of the Zombie's Walking Tutorial with the Flappy Hands."

Well, as it is now...

Her face in front view looks more like an upside-down triangle than it does in the side view.

Her figure definitely needs to be reworked. I'd suggest starting with basic geometric shapes around a central curve.

Right now, your lines look very hesitant, as if you're unable to decide on a firm outline.

You should probably watch (or re-watch) the part in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" where Silent Bob gives the speech about intellectual property.

Reminds me of Terrence.....or Philip.

Is it for a game called "Asses of Fire" by any chance?

I would definitely be interested in a future AGS engine that allows 3d characters against 2d backgrounds. Being able to have different rooms at different angles without redrawing the player sprite would allow for more involving and dramatic storytelling.
I'm not so sure about the technical aspects of it. Considering the time it would take to implement, I'm not sure the idea is feasible (problems like how to import polygon models, etc).

It seems like some elements have this nice inked outline, while others don't. You should either outline everything or nothing, because a consistent style is important.

As it is, the foreground is much too bright. It takes attention away from the mushroom houses in the middle of the picture. Think of a foreground as a way to frame your image, while giving it depth.

Also, the horizon seems to divide the page so half of it is sky and the other half is grass. If you look at any famous painting of a landscape, you'll notice that artists avoid this 50/50 split like the plague. Either the sky tends to dominate the pic, or the land does. Pick one.

Finally, while the grass in the foreground (?) doesn't look bad, it's going to be a bitch to have the character walk behind it, since it is anti-aliased so much.

I really like the character's design, especially the contrasting forms you've employed (like the thin eye stalks against the robust musculature).

Unfortunately, I think it's painfully obvious that you drew half of him and just mirrored it (adding a tail afterwards).

If you gave him a more dynamic pose, I think you'd have a sprite worthy of Emperor Akihito!

The imp guy was my all-time favorite character. I mean, he's so cool, he doesn't need to use real words.

Man, he must be a whiz with the ladies...

Here's my entry. Took about half an hour to draw from scratch.

Forearms look short, waist looks low, legs look short, chest region sags outward, stance looks awkward (did someone say 'air guitar'?), and colors look garish. He might appreciate some ears...

To give your character substance, try working around a central curve for his stance. Also employ a contraposto position, with his higher hip on the same side with his lower shoulder.

I really like what Igor did with the face as far as softening the jaw goes, etc.

I would give her eyebrows, since it IS a cartoon and eyebrows tend to be very expressive (compare the dogs from "Lady and the Tramp" to Keanu Reeves and you'll get my drift. The dogs win every time).

Also, her hair looks a tad odd, like she's wearing a wig. You might want to rethink the design of its profile.

The boobular region could use some revision as well. In the profile view, it almost looks like her left breast took a vacation and lost its luggage.

Wow, I'm really impressed with the latest version of that cutscene! I love the way the eyes slowly blink out. Kind of reminiscent of the Chesire Cat's smile. With the right music, that scene could be downright powerful.

My only critique is that it looks like she is smiling, and I think that might be a bit inconsistent with the mood you are trying to portray.

What has she got to be so damn happy about? Grrrr...
