QuoteLord Ironcrow takes the unenployment for his army and he wants Pib because his dad was a warrior in Ironcrow's army...

The only mention of Pib's father is in a dream in the first Apprentice. Even there, it doesn't serve as a REASON for recruitment, just an attempt to convince Pib to enlist. I never meant for people to take the whole warrior-cook thing literally. (Lord Ironcrow was trying to justify what he said earlier when confronted with the fact that Pib's father was indeed a cook.)

Quote...Ironcrow tries to get Pib in his army even if he is actually a student and not unemployed.

Although it's true that Pib is indeed an apprentice (surprise), he is not being paid (as mentioned in the first Apprentice game), so he is NOT a professional. Other clues in the first game hint at this apprenticeship as being very informal.

I guess you'll just have to trust me that the story works and makes sense.

IMHO, I prefer the original body to the newer paintovers. It just seems to have more of a comic flair. Although Loominous' modification of her face looks like a good direction to take it.

Let me see...
IMO
Nothing beats Sierra Nevada, Saranac Pale Ale, or a good gin and tonic...

The classic, of course, is to take one of those little Dole juice bottles, drink half of it, fill the other half with vodka or 151, and shake it up a bit. That should keep you happy on the way to the party. :)

EDIT: Has anyone ever had pastis before? Nasty stuff, made from anise seeds, I think. Tastes like black licorice.

Whether or not it's freeware is irrelevant.

As long as a copyright exists for the images (sounds, songs, etc.), they are the intellectual property of someone. You must obtain their permission to use the works.

At least under U.S. law...

Thanks for the additional feedback!

I was tinkering around with the wigs some more, agonizing over decisions when an idea hit me! What if Ironcrow is wearing a different wig each time you see him? Nothing says vain more than closet full of perukes.

This will also give me the opportunity to pay homage to the film, "Amadeus."

Talk about serendipity!

I agree that #6 is anachronistic, but also the most ostentatious of the bunch.

After consulting my 1864 edition of "Trachten der Volker", I came up with a few more hairstyles, variants of the whole wig idea.

Number 6 is essentially the same, with some slight shading improvements. Number 5 is the same as the old 5, but with gray temples as suggested.

Number 4 is the control group, in case a more normal hairstyle is preferred.

Wow, lots of good suggestions here already!

Looking at the results so far, it seems that #5 and #6 are the most popular, with #6 taking the lead. Kind of ironic, considering that #2 was the one I was absolutely going to put into the game until I started tinkering around with it late one night.

I guess "memorable" would be a good thing.

I'll do more research on wigs, and maybe I can come up with a compromise or at least a few variants. If he is wearing a wig, do you think its color should match his moustache?

Stay tuned...

Hi guys and gals,

I don't usually like to start new topics, but I'd like some input on a character design decision (read: "Ironcrow's hair")

In case you haven't played Apprentice, Lord Ironcrow is the antagonist, the ruler of a small kingdom called Willowbean. He is a huge knight, very arrogant and somewhat of a fop.

I drew a bunch of different hairstyles, but I'm not sure which one would fit. (Or maybe the one that fits hasn't been made yet.)

Here they are:

P.S. The face color in number 1 is too red, but I left it in as more of the idea of giving Ironcrow a different skin tone.

How about...
You are what you eat, you pussy.
Ok, maybe it's not cultured. Or appropriate.

Just curious...if the rating system changes, what happens to all those old games that have accumulated ratings throughout the years? Do they start at zero again?

Don't forget:

Beefheaded
Duncical
Asinine
Credulous (guillible)
Moronic

Thank you http://www.m-w.com!

That's a great reference you have. I think that cat is stalking something, though... Notice how little its head moves and how its hind legs look ready to pounce.

Yeah, I read "Le Petit Prince" in French, too, but it wasn't until high school.

Despite its philosophical aspects (ontology, etc.), I think too often people classify that it as a children's book.

Same with "Maus."

The main thing to keep in mind about cats is that they walk stiff legged.

I also think they move both their front and hind leg on the same side forward when they walk (as opposed to opposite sides).

EDIT: After looking at my cat at home, I confirmed this. Cats walk this way, but run and stalk the other. (Which explains the reference animation.)

That last drawing reminds me of the style in Antoine de Saint-Exupery's "Le Petit Prince." Kickass book.

I'm looking for a voice actor for some lines in the talkie version of Apprentice 1.

The role is the highwaywoman, and for those of you that haven't played the game, she's a gruff, mean personality (like a bridge troll).

I would like to find a MALE voice actor for her part, because I'm having trouble finding a female with a gruff voice. So if you're a guy with a deep voice and have access to a microphone, please record the following line and send it as an attachment (mp3 or wav, please) to ifs104@psu.edu.

HIGHWAYWOMAN: I'm a businesswoman. I collect revenue from pedestrians, who pay me not to get angry.

For more info on the game, please visit http://herculeaneffort.adventuredevelopers.com/app1.html

Thanks, guys!

You mean "Clay Fighter" and "Clay Fighter 2: Judgment Clay?"

Dark Eye was also claymation, as was the Neverhood, I think.

QuoteBig brother, haha, you had to pretend to be a religious nut and white christian exclusive gun collector. Don't you hate the liberal media who comes up with these quizes?

Umm....have you checked my gunrack lately? I *AM* a white Christian religious nut! No pretends here.

Am I getting a unwelcome vibe?
