Hehe... come on LRM... like Dr Harold Shipman I'm quickly losing my patients. ;)

Nice reference, Stupot  ;D

I also liked your suggestion for the next story, but TwinMoon PMed a mod to revive the writing competition, so I think we'll be writing short stories every one of us. But if there's a new collab thing too, I'll be sure to join!

This sounds like a very nice game, with a nice storyline!! Best of luck with it !

I like how one of the settings is inside an airplane, will there be things to do there, apart from talking with your neighbor? Like riddles to solve  ;D?

Brokenbutterfly: I don' t like to use a certain event for generalising, I usually hate it when people does that in threads... But as I mentioned, it happened to me enough to consider that there was a pattern. Thinking it again, probably I treated with people over 30 years... maybe that is changing slowly. That would be IMHO good news.

Yes I understand that you came to your conclusion after encountering the same situation so many times. But I'm really surprised how rude those people are. If my friends and I came to your hotel, you would be proud of us because we would try our best to speak Spanish (even if it's not good  ;D). I'm really glad if you say the situation is changing!  :)

I guess we have about ten french speaking people around there on 3942 members.
hourra the french community is very big here and I'm proud to be part of it :)

Only ten? I think we are more than that  :)

I worked in a reception in a Hotel; English people tried to communicate with me, at least "Hola, gracias, hasta luego, por favor, gracias por el pescado..."

French never tried.

Even when I knew that they were able to speak English (You do manage quite well in English when it comes the time to raise some brit girl skirt, I can tell...) Realising of that, I politelly ask them to try to speak to me in English...

"Sivuplé, je ne parlé francé tré bién, pouvévu parlé en Anglé, o parlé duzment?"

Nothing... they went speaking french, without slowing down, like machine guns.

That happened to me not once, or twice... happened to me most than half of the times I had to deal with french people. The other half of the times, they simply ignored me and spoke with the chef receptionist, who spoke french.

I don't know why they did that. Usually when you go to a foreign country, you will try to learn about their language. Buy one of those phrase books or something. If I travel to Spain, I would try to speak Spanish, English, but certainly not French! Maybe like riseryn said, you had no luck and met people who think they are the only ones on the planet, and that everybody speaks French. It happens!

I don't think it's so much that Frenchmen can't speak English, it's that they wont. They're a very proud people (especially around Paris - Southern France isn't as bad) and, like you say, they're not fond of anglo-saxon globalisation.

I remember I asked a French girl if she spoke English, and she said "Sorry, my English is very limited." I mean, most native english-speakers wouldn't speak so eloquently.

It's true some of them aren't willing to help. But others are just ashamed of their accent. Or, they don't trust their speaking ability. They can't speak fluently, give them 1 hour to write an essay in English, they would. But they wouldn't be able to have a conversation with you right here, right now.

Consider how silly it is that we're having a Mittens in France this summer and the French community may well be unaware of that!

No, you're having it in Belgium, and even though it's close, it's too far for me  :'( no time and no money.

Quote from: Pumaman on Sat 19/04/2008 12:13:36
But if some of you multi-lingual guys would be happy to keep an eye on the foreign language forums it might make more sense to try and integrate them here?
ryanlandry whose French seems top notch could do it  :D but if you integrate France-French speakers here, you'd need someone fluent in it to moderate them or something? I'd be willing to do it, but only as a secondary mod because I'm not online that much.

Hehe, because I don't know the French word for 'couch'.
Where's "here"? Paris, Hong Kong or Frisco?

"Couch" would be "canapé" or "divan". Here we don't use the expression "couch potato" often. The only time I've seen it was in a Donald Duck comic, and they referred to him as "patate de divan". I'm sure you know "patate" is another word for "potato"  ;)

Here is Paris. I live there 24/7, I'm only in HK or SF during the holidays. So maybe in May or this summer.

Haddas is CJ
[close]

Whaaaat??  ??? But, but...! Oh, the woes of a fangirl...

Anyway, jokes aside, let me mention some nice people.  I've been here 2 months so I can't talk of any friends (yet?) but

I do like Ghost, who sort of welcomed me here, and drew me a little pic.
My "boss"  ;D naamlock who pays me in sweets (still waiting for my first salary!)
Stupot and auriond with whom I've talked a bit.
Paper Carnival who's an extremely cool guy.
And of course, Domino, my fellow gamer  :D.

Mais oui.
Je suis un petit pomme de terre.
Voila... ma Francais est tres bien, non?

Hehehe... I work with a French girl at the cinema... you can imagine the difficulty she encountered when 'orton 'ears a 'oo came out not long ago.

Stupot, why do you say you're a potato?  ???  As for Horton Hears a Who, here they released it as just "Horton"  ;D

General Discussion / Re: I started a diet!

I realize that some points in what I said are the same as Layabout's and also Stupot's  :-[ sorry to have read badly, and repeating what you guys said! But it shows which ideas should work, since many people agree.

I think the army's ways is good, it sort of sounds like my own lifestyle:

I too only ate what I was given (no junk food in my family) and when I cook for myself, it's always healthy.
I don't drink at all, except occasionally at friends' or parties.
I walk very fast, in large strides. People have trouble keeping up with me, they say "don't run!" but I'm not running  :-\
I walk a lot, and when taking the bus or subway, I never sit down. Except if I have to travel 30 stations. I only sit down when I have to = work.
I sleep for 7 hours at the most.

I'm pretty fit  and in good health :) I can run or walk up stairs to a 6th floor without feeling breathless, I do push-ups, crunches, some kickboxing, in addition to eating healthy. But my arms remain slender, especially the wrists, so I don't think I'd beat anyone at armwrestling  ;D

Angel Dust's art is great!! But I really hope you will keep a bit of your own art, cerchier, because even though it's old school, and some people don't like it, I really do!

It has its own style, compared to Angel Dust's which is too smooth, too beautiful... how to explain?  :-\ Don't take me wrong, I do like both.

Apart from that, I'm really looking forward to playing this game, nice storyline, and thanks for making it survival horror! There aren't many of them in AGS. Shame because I love chillers  :-*

Congrats to the winners and  everyone!!  :D

My favorite was Michael Jackson by thebaddie!!  :-*

I like the monster under the bed theme  :) and the idea of prizes is neat, I don't know if it has been done before?

The Pumpkin King is great motivation!! You have good taste  ;D

Well it matters if you have your own website.

I mean if you see an entry www.nikolas-sideris.com/anonymous.mp3 whose entry might it be? ;D

Jeez, I really don't know...  ???  ;D

Idea: zyndikate, I would love to see that place in a game, and visit the tavern(?)

Atmosphere: zyndikate all the way. So romantic as I said before.

Design: nihilyst. I like the looks of the cliff, the mailbox, bulletin board, and the little bulb at the top of the lighthouse.

Composition: Neil Dnuma. I really like the little stone wall next to the lighthouse, and the little house is right where it should be.

Functionality: nihilyst. I can imagine a little sprite walking around. Reminds me of the tower in Knightsquire :)

Technique: zyndikate. Even though he says otherwise  ;D

The lines are always busy though.  :'(

Oh that number doesn't sound fishy at all!!! Let me try it *dials*

The line  is busy!! Domino and the other thousand AGSers, would you be so kind to hang up and let me have my turn!  ;D

From the first Mittens. Dunno why CJ has breasts, a skirt, and crow's feet, but I'm sure it made sense at the time.

CJ is my hero, I can overlook those shortcomings!   :-*

The phone number thing can be arranged... for a large sum of money (£10,000,000=. (No guarantees that the number is valid any longer)

Glad to see there are people willing to help! On which of your accounts should I transfer the money? The Swiss one?

General Discussion / Re: I started a diet!
Fri 18/04/2008 00:51:29
I'm a puny 165cm and 52 kgs  :-\. Great advice from all the others, let me share what I know too if it can help  :)

There are many methods for losing weight. It ranges from brushing your teeth (you usually don't feel like eating again afterwards) to drinking water (fights the feeling of hunger, makes your stomach full).

Many would say that diets don't work. I agree, if the diets are about skipping a meal. It's not about eating less, it's about eating healthy.

-When you feel hungry, grab an apple, and not that bag of potato chips.

-Midnight snacking is a big no-no. Quote from a video game: "Eating after 11 p.m is a sure one-way ticket to Porkdom!" I think it sums up the idea rather well!

-Cut down on the alcohol as much as you can. Alcohol is sneaky, it makes you feel hungry, but it contains many calories.

-Pay attention to what you eat. Take your time, enjoy the food. Absolutely do not eat while watching TV. Food tend to disappear, while you won't feel full.

-Big brother's advice about giving you one day a week to cheat, is very good. Go out with friends or family, and have a hearty meal without feeling guilty. To remind yourself that dieting is not torture.

-Tea makes you slim, or so I've heard.

-Lots of exercise, and not the kind where you do it for 2 days and then quit. Regular exercise.

Also, try to cut down on anything that is not "necessary". Soda isn't necessary, whether diet or not. I come from a family where we eat healthy, no useless things. No sodas, no snacks or sweets (only from time to time) . I didn't feel deprived, and usually those are available at a friend's house, if there's an emergency  ;D

Emerald is right about the amount. Small sizes. When you go to a fast food over here in France and ask for a large order, it equals to your small order in the U.S. I wouldn't go as far as saying there are no obese people here, but there are not many, that's for sure. But as riseryn pointed out, there's starting to be more because of fast foods.

Oliwerko and ryanlandry: your bodies burn calories much faster than the average person. Many others are like that, and I think there's no solution to that one  :-\ I had a friend like that, soooo skinny and yet she ate tons of food. She was annoyed by that, because she was much too thin. Or, it can be a case of tapeworm?

One of the key thing to remember is "balance". Balance in everything: do not start fasting, or lifting weights during 5 hours. Everything in moderation (yes even junk food) and it should be fine!

Well Nikolas, hope this helps, and good luck with your diet!  :)

what do you mean its going to be hard to decide the winner?

Th3 Aw350m3 has clearly won, its obvious...

Th3 Aw350m3, you shouldn't make a 2nd account so you can praise yourself... J/K  ;D

Seriously, I do agree that his entry is great, I really like it, but the other ones are great too. And they are original, there's more than one way to kill... but my favorite is Blue's even though the bunny wasn't killed. As long as there's plenty o' stylishly spread blood, it's cool.

On her way to becoming my AGS friend...brokenbutterfly.

We both seem to like the same games.

Also brokenbutterfly, I have Bully for the PS2 and Xbox 360.

Thank you for the PM's, i don't get much after being here so long.  :=

Shawn

Aww that's so nice  :) and you're welcome, as is said under my profile, I live for games!

But hmm, now everyone will think I PMed you so that I'd be mentioned in this thread...  :-[ not true!!

My only objective when I joined the AGS forums... is to get CJ's autograph. And phone number  :-*  ;D

By the way, any news from those who dropped out as to why? Was it because of loss of interest, lack of time, or are they still AWOL? Just curious...  :-[

Can't wait to read all the stories!! Especially Branch B which I haven't seen at all.

Maaan, the suspense is killing me. Being one of the last is even worse than being one of the first. I have absolutely no idea what this is going to be about...

I totally understand you, maybe next time you could say you want to be at the beginning  :) ... but TwinMoon and lo_res_man asked not to be at the end, and look where they are now... oh well it's worth a try  ;D

General Discussion / Re: Gameboomers?

I've visited Gameboomers in the past. Can't say I've ever seen anything that I haven't seen on any other (typical internet) forums.

Moderators everywhere tend to be split into two groups; Regular Joe moderators, and Gobshites. There's lots of Regular Joe moderators, and there's lot's of Gobshites. Moderators who spent all their non-moderating life wanting to be moderators usually turn out to be Gobshites. Moderators who do the job because it needs to be done, usually turn out to be Regular Joes.

It's pot luck, though, which type you may encounter.

Banning is usually the sport of Gobshites.

Reminds me of the prefects in the video game "Bully"...  :-\
I sometimes go on that site, to check for news about U.S. releases of European games. But I didn't know they were so uptight there.

The previous quarel was about me using the word "abandonware"! ;D The thread was soundtracks in games and I mentioned Betrayal at Krondor and Legend of Kyrandia, and mentioned that both could be abandonware by now. Got told off about mentioning this, replied, replied back, etc...

Yes, Legend of Kyrandia is... I found them last year on some site, the 3 of them. Reminded me of when I played them as a child  ;D

I really liked the costumes of the Silent Hill monsters.

I agree, I loved how the nurses were done. Even if the whole scene of the flashlight "stop/move" is incoherent game-wise, when they are twitching I think it's a great blend of sexy with creepy :)
