Looks very promising, I just played the demo.

A little constructive criticsm:

-The footstep sound was very annoying from the start (more accentuated by the fact that in the beginning 3 people are 'walking' all over each other's sound) It is more distracting than adding to the overal superb atmosphere.
-During the intro in the car the first few seconds it wasn't clear to me whether he was talking on the phone or whether there was somebody else in the car (is my monitor too dark?) maybe the passenger can light a cigaret or catch some passing light too, to accentuate this?
-Regarding the dialogue could maybe be made a little more 'real-life'-like.

Aside from that, love what you've done with the graphics and general mood! Keep up the good work.

To be honest this makes me want to give up on my game .. lol
I sure hope not ;)

Very well made and great atmospheres you guys created in some of these 'rooms'. Loved the rain/snow etc fx. Good pacing, explaining at the end didn't bother me.

thumbs up!

That quantity of a '100' is just silly as it's a digital download... there's always a 100 left... even if he sells a 1000 copies...

I glanced over the selling history log for a couple of pages. It doesn't look like he sold any copies of this game lately. Looking at his history it also looks like he farmed several user-ids to leave himself positive comments, I'm not 100% sure, though.

Very cool (and impressive) Besides Martian Memorandum it also reminds me a bit of games like Noctropolis, Goldmund's Donna: Avenger of Blood and Gabriel Knight II which is a good thing :D . You definitely got the mood/ atmosphere right, dark and moody + rain = awesome.

ps: Somebody commented on 'smoothing'/cleartyping the font used in the speech boxes but personally, I actually like the 'blocky' font, it gives it a bit of that retro sierra feel, which I think is kind of nice.

Looking forward to seeing this progress!

Very nicely updated graphics! Great work. Compared to this the old graphics indeed look a little dated  ;D

General Discussion / Re: iPad

If it's just for ebooks, there are several cheaper e-readers than the Kindle available. The makes the difference quite a bit bigger. Plus, there are several new ones being released this year, along with a cargoplane of tablets ;).

Also, reading with an e-ink device (like the Kindle or Sony reader) outside, on a sunny day, is a total different experience than it'll probably be on the iPad. Better try both before you buy.

GOOD:
-capacitive touch-panel
-9.6inch screen
-'low' entry price (barely)
-0.5 inch thick
-10hrs battery life
-unibody sturdy construction
-no keyboard

BAD:
-no multi-tasking
-no SD or CF or USB integrated
-no webcam
-no magnetic power connector
-low powered processor
-no 'real' HD video
-apple controlled apps
-drm
-no keyboard

It's more an 'appliance' than a 'computer'. In that sense it might indeed appeal more to the less computer literate.

I've often wondered if it wouldn't be better to have AGS games be supported by ScummVM. This would solve the platform problem, since ScummVM is available for every machine under the sun, including the iPhone. But I guess the biggest problem would be the plugins...

The length is fine as far as I'm concerned. And I can easily imagine seeing a of village or streets with this music playing. Good job.

Great stuff, very promising! You just made it onto my 'games I'm looking forward to playing' list.  ;) Good luck with getting this puppy finished.

Well that was another great game in the series, Dave! Nice voicework and music, it sucked me right back in. My only real complaint is that I have to wait for the next chapter haha :'(

Several adventures I finished without walkthrough. Having played so many I really couldn't tell which ones. But for a fair few I've had to resort to walkthroughs as well.

Nowadays, if I get stuck somewhere for more than a couple of hours I'll probably have a glimpse at a walkthrough to get me unstuck, other than that usually not. Playing adventure games is something I do to enjoy myself, not torture myself. ;D

1.  Find a friend who played the game and ask them for help

2.  Call a hint line if possible

3.  Solve it yourself

4. Go through the whole press stand looking for a computer magazine with a walkthrough.  ;)

I finished it yesterday and that was a great game! I liked the attention to detail with little animation bits here and there (e.g. the people on the map) and some parallax scrolling. Also the market scene was wicked, all those characters walking around everywhere etc. Very nicely done, it made the market really come to life. The music of the game was very fitting as well, it fit the whole atmosphere very well and sometimes reminded me a bit of the music from the Longest Journey. I'm looking forward to what you come up with for the next part of the game.

One of my only real gripes was with the protagonist's walkcycle, at time it really seemed too 'wooden'. But I was surprised at how many action-animations you made, that shows dedication! ;) A bravo from me as well for not shying away from more mature themes.

Just a couple of things regarding the story:
Spoiler

-One thing that seemed a little weird to me was that people wouldn't know the king's son or show him a little more respect. When the next in line for the throne would ask something you'd expect people to be a little more forthcoming.
-Another thing was that the son of the king has only access to 15 pieces of margin. Being royalty I'd expect him to easily buy a couple of slaves without blinking twice over the price.  :) I understand that without all this half the puzzles would be gone, it's just something that struck me while playing.

Anyway, you've succeded in making a great game Woltaire, so all the blood, sweat and tears that went into it were definitely worth it. Good luck with the next chapter.

Salut  ;)

I saw your game-in-progress on some other site last week, I was already wondering why there was nothing to be found about it on here, looks very promising. Good luck on your endeavour.

...as for Shadowplay, yes it's very much in the works still. And I'm happy to see that people still remember the project

It's great to hear it's still in the works! I certainly haven't forgotten the project. ;)

I purchased your game this morning (a little extra from Santa). I aswell thought the price was a little steep at first, considering what else you can get for that price, but then again, as you state in the readme, you're not a big corporation (yet  ;) ) and I want to support you in your endeavour.

I've been playing the game on and off today and... it's been great so far! I'm enjoying myself, I like the 'GK-vibe' it has in some places and having speech really helps bring it to life. I'm glad you did went that way. I haven't had the pleasure to check out the audio commentary yet, but I think it's a very cool idea and certainly adds something special to the game.

Thumbs up!

Great to see that it's nearing completion! I've been looking forward to play your game for quite a while. Good luck on giving it the final touches&finishes :D

I think the last update reflects reality the most.
Although having a reflection might bring problems with the character later (like Janik said),  it really adds to the realism of the image compared to the first image in this post.

About the little speckles, I don't think they really add anything to the realism of the water but that could just be me.  ;)

btw I love that sky, so simple yet so powerful... it gives the scene a really cool atmosphere!

Good luck

Very nice tune! This one I'm keeping in my mp3 collection lol ;)
If you redo the song I hope you don't loose too much of that mettallic effect because it's nice.

Good luck and keep the music coming!  :)
