I thought I'd jump in here and say that Valis is still very much in development!!! 6 years and counting. I hadn't touched it in 6 months but I'm on holiday this week and have spent pretty much every waking hour on it.

Edit: It's actually 8 years in development! I should rename Valis to Duke nukem RPG.

I love me a good RON game, it's like seeing old friends  ;D

Exposed Reality
-----------------
Mika is on the hunt for a scoop, any scoop and in the process will uncover more about everyone in the town than she had anticipated.

The game is mostly Dialogue-driven with plenty of banter with all the RON regulars.

I completed this (very) short game a while ago and always planned to go back to it and expand on it but I lost the source code a couple of weeks ago. :-[

It is only missing sound and the ending cutscene so the game ends rather abruptly once your mission is complete.

I've got a couple of backgrounds I've done for Exposed Reality (still on the way, fact fans).

I'll upload them as soon as I get my PC back (I got myself an iMac G4 to tide me over... Couldn't resist, they're so cheap now but still sexy ;D)

Anyway back on topic: These are awesome sprites, ProgZmax. I might steal a couple for my next game.

it took about 1500 photos from a batch of over 3000, fact fans  :=

Hi guys,

a friend and I directed a stop-motion animation for a local band.

Check out the link below and tell me what you think:

quick update: I'm still working on this. I've added some more puzzles and i'm drawing some new backgrounds. Here's a preview of the one I'm drawing right now:

Thanks for the help guys. RI, I knew it was a good idea to pass it by you guys first, I've never played Paranormal Investigations and I'd totally forgotten Cold Storage's story  ;D

I'll play through these 2 again and rewrite the script accordingly.

Thanks for all the constructive feedback ProgZmax, it's much appreciated.

1 - I thought I was using the latest version of Mika already but I'll double-check.

2 - I didn't realise my britishness was coming out :p I'll fix that.

3 - Thanks, I don't like bland characters either and I tried to give them all a distinct voice.

4 - The game still needs a bit of work, I have a couple of extra puzzles I want to add (I'm currently drawing the new objects). I was just ready to share what I'd done to make sure i was not taking RON characters in the "wrong" direction in any way (maybe Mika had left the Realizer in a game I had not played or Elandra was no longer with Davy etc...).

5 - This was meant to be a small game to dip my feet in the RON waters. As you suggested, I have plans to expand on the whole new Realizer staff idea for my next RON excursion. This will be a bigger game with more characters and play areas.

I thought the ending worked well but a friend of mine thought the same as you about the ending feeling too abrupt. I have a couple of ideas on how to improve this.

Otherwise, I know you thought there was a bit too much dialogue but did you find that dialogue enjoyable or should I try to cut that down a bit?

Also, there will be sound and music by the time I'm finished, my dad is a really good musician and has provided music for my games before. He's currently working on a couple of tunes for this.

Bumping. Please see the first post for the game trial.

I know this is an old topic but would it be possible to get the source code for this project? I would love to expand on it, not to take over the primer or anything but to fashion an interactive primer with an actual game attached to it.

Thanks. What I will need is people to play it and tell me whether I've made continuity mistakes  ;D

Hi guys, I've taken the plunge after years of playing RON games and I've been working on a short RON game starring everyone's favourite photographer Mika.
Now the game is nearer completion, I thought I'd announce it here first.

Exposed Reality
-----------------
Mika is on the hunt for a scoop, any scoop and in the process will uncover more about everyone in the town than she had anticipated.

The game is mostly Dialogue-driven with plenty of banter with all the RON regulars.

The game is pretty much complete (needs music and a couple of extra interactions.)

I would appreciate it if you could have a play and let me know of any RON continuity issues.

His carcass was still dangling from the window sill. Dolly was not in the habit of being taken for a ride. Blood was dripping from her left hand, she barely seemed to have noticed, it probably was not her blood anyway. She glanced to the corner of the room, Toby’s mouth was wide opened.
“You never gave him a chance to explain.” Dolly stared at him so hard Toby regretted his words almost instantly. She did not respond, just gave him the finger. Toby stood up, recomposed himself and lit a cigarette. he stepped towards the window to take a closer look.
“Dang, Doll. You don’t play around, do you?” That cigarette had calmed him down. He smiled at her.
“So what do we do now?”
---------
Leroy was not a kind man. He was not so much walking down the street but throwing his weight around, pushing people on his way down the hill hoping, wishing someone would  say something so he could get his beat on.
“That your man?” Toby was driving the car, the window slightly ajar.
Dolly checked her piece of paper and nodded. She reached behind her and grabbed the long, black birchen rod from the back seat.
“Leroy!” She shouted. The beast of a man turned round to examine his prey. What he saw made him salivate. A young, lithe girl for the plucking.
“Who the hell are you?”
“Leroy, you’ve been a naughty boy.” Dolly whipped the rod against the pavement.
Leroy just laughed. He cracked his knuckles and charged towards her.
One crack of the whip later and Toby witnessed his car get soaked in scarlet. Dolly’s angelic face was covered in what remained of the inside of Leroy’s skull.
After she took the time to get a shower, Dolly phoned up her boss.
“Yes sir, we’ve gone through the list. Bad behaviour has indeed been punished.” Toby was in the lounge, putting the last of the decorations on the tree.
“You have a good Christmas too, don’t overdo it this year.”

This is looking awesome. I loved Moonstone! Will you be able to block in the final version? The guys in the video just seemed to try and avoid each other  :P

A new playable demo of Valis is now on GameJolt:

http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/valis-chapter-1-demon-hunters/download/3402/

I didn't have time to expand on the demo when I uploaded it. Here's more information:

Contained in the demo
-----------------------------
- 3 towns to explore
- a good chunk of the main storyline to go through
- 4 side missions
- 1 multi-level dungeon to explore
- over 20 types of monsters to fight
- Level-up your characters to your heart's content. No cap is present in the demo. As your characters go up levels, they will encounter new monsters.

Caveats
----------
- Monsters have been dumbed down for the demo as the difficulty balancing is still being worked on.
- The trading system has been cut down for the demo as it is too easy to exploit at the moment.

And I'm taking about as long as Square to do it too ;D

Thanks  ;D I will be looking for testers soon so watch this space!
