This is a short game that bicilotti had linked on his blog:

https://princessinternetcafe.itch.io/running-back-to-you

It can be played directly in the browser.

It is bitter sweet and sad, I almost started to cry when it ended. It reminds me somewhat of this lovely place here. And with the forums down recently, it really hit close to home.

How do the AGS Awards work?
(This is information mostly for new members, same procedure as every year)

Every year, the AGS community embarks on a quest to find the best games made in the last year. All games are eligible, that were added to the AGS Database in the year 2022. There is a For Your Consideration thread where authors can promote their games and players get a good overview what might be worth playing.

The awards are a two-step process: First there is a nomination phase where all community members can nominate the eligible games in several categories (it will be the same categories as last year). The top five games of each category make it to the voting (as long as they've received at least five nominations). Again, all members of the community can vote on their favourite games.
The final result is then announced in a live ceremony that can be joined either with a special client or any regular irc client.

Party like it's 1990 in this thread!

Have you made a game in 2022 and want it to compete in the AGS Awards 2022? This is the topic where to showcase it!
Post a database link, a brief description and some pictures (thumbnails preferred, here is an excellent FYC post from last year).

Do not be shy, by posting your game you are helping the players who will take some of their time to play/nominate/vote!

Usual remarks:
  • Please include a link to your games page on the AGS games database
  • If you think a game deserves mention but the author isn't around, post an FYC for them! The more worthy games we get here, the better it is for everyone!
  • This thread is for FYC posts only, if you want to discuss the awards go here!
#25
A bit short notice, but today is the last chance to add your game to the database for the 2022 AGS Awards.

Only games that were added to the database in 2022 are eligible for the AGS Awards 2022.

Apparently, there has been an AdventureX this year in November. Sadly, no-one has written anything about it here on the forums, so I didn't know about it  :( . I would have loved to go there or at least watch the live-streams.

It seems there are some videos available at twitch, but this is not the same. However, you might want to have a look: https://www.twitch.tv/adventurexpo/videos

Has anyone been there and can tell us a bit about the event?

Critics' Lounge / New AGS logo - final voting
Wed 10/08/2022 20:54:04
Since I don't think it is possible to have more than one poll per thread, here is a new thread with poll. This is the final voting for the new AGS logo. Please choose between two options (both shown with black, white and blue background)

Option 1:

Option 2:

@tampie85 could you maybe make links to the page where those options are used (like you did for the original voting), so people can see the logos used in the new website? You have the files for option 1 already, the file for option 2 is the blue background one (it's the same for dark and light, so only one file is needed).

Critics' Lounge / New AGS logo
Thu 16/06/2022 21:33:55
As the new AGS website is currently developed, it's time to think about updating the logo. The current logo has a glow which looks nice on a white or light blue background, but it looks off in dark mode (see https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/?status=signed-inheme=dark).

WHAT WE HAVE SO FAR:

1) The current one but traced to support other backgrounds more easily and versions for cup and Larry:

1.1 (light themedark theme)
1.2 (light themedark theme)
1.3 (light themedark theme)
1.4 (light themedark theme)

2) Cup on the left, text next to it, no glow:

2.1 (light themedark theme)

2.2 (light themedark theme)

2.3 (light themedark theme)

2.4 (light themedark theme)

2.5 (light themedark theme)

2.6 (light themedark theme)
2.7 (light themedark theme)
2.8 (light themedark theme)

3) The cup is behind the first letter(s)

3.1 (light themedark theme)
3.2 (light themedark theme)
3.3 (light themedark theme)
3.4 (light themedark theme)
3.5 (light themedark theme)

4) The cup replaces the U

4.1 (light themedark theme)
4.2 (light themedark theme)
4.3 (light themedark theme)

5) Something completely different

5.1 (light themedark theme)
5.2 (light themedark theme)
5.3 (light themedark theme)

Original text continued:

So I gave it a quick go. I thought about tracing the current logo as vector but I was lazy and instead used the font that is currently used for the design of the new page (Nunito from Google fonts). The new logo should somehow fit the colors and style of the new website (https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/)

[imgzoom]https://www.clowdergames.com/pics/newWebsite/logo_draft1.svg[/imgzoom]

I know the kerning and spacing between letters is off, this is mostly to give you an idea.
I will not be able to work on this in the next few days, this thread is supposed to be a kickstarter for logo ideas. I hope people will come up with much better ideas and we find a new logo everyone is happy with. The pic is an svg, so it should be easy for you to modify it.

Hi!

I hope this is the right place to post this.

Background: My kids have this Hörbert audio player (https://www.hoerbert.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2017/07/hoerbert-standart-2-e1505730962378.jpg) which basically is a wooden box with a speaker and buttons. Inside is an SD card where you can copy audio files in a certain file structure which results in a playlist for each of the buttons. Since the device is quite heavy, I thought it would be nice to have this on my phone instead for travelling.
I'm using the latest stable AGS (3.5.1. I think it is?) and the Android player on my phone (no idea which version, I can't figure that out). I could update to 3.6.0 if this helps.
I got the basic handling (with lots of swearing about AGS's limited array functionality) but a few questions arise.

1) When I turn off the screen of my phone to save battery, the music stops as well. Is it possible to have this continue running?

2) I included all audio files in the game which makes quite a big vox file and is somewhat impractical because I have to recompile the whole game to change the playlists. Is it possible to a) access audio files from the file system and b) play such files in AGS?

3) When you hold down the back button, a menu will appear. Is it possible to disable this menu? My kids will certainly open this by accident and then cause mayhem on my phone.

Site & Forum Reports / Game DB problems

Something is broken with the database:

Quote from: lorenzo on Thu 07/04/2022 15:20:39
Quote from: eri0o on Thu 07/04/2022 04:01:29
Did you add it to AGS Games Database yet?
I tried two times adding it yesterday, but had no luck. After compiling all the information, I pressed "add" and I just got an empty page, with no error text. I'm not sure what happened.
I didn't want to risk adding the game multiple times, so I waited to see if it just took some time to appear, but nothing so far. Maybe I'll retry later.

Also there seems to be something broken with the feature that DB-moderators can mark games as 'not-broken'

Additionally, the recent panel ratings have weirdly escaped ' characters.

Who of you is playing wordle?

I started playing a few weeks ago, but I clear my browser cache often, so I don't track my results over time. I think it's a nice challange and I enjoy learning new words. I usually play in regular mode but try to keep to the hard mode rules. This allows for the occasional win on the second guess. Only when I can't think of any more words that could fit (or too many, like still, skill, spill, etc) I use a word to exclude as many characters as possible.
Do you have a standard starting word? How do you play?

Today I got the word on second try :-D
#32
Now, that there is a Web Port, wouldn't it be great if you could play games directly from the AGS database? It could be a section just like the one for Youtube videos. Is this technically possible?

The Rumpus Room / Share your dreams
Mon 31/01/2022 13:34:20
No, I'm not talking about your visions on world peace. I'm talking about that stuff that happens in your brain while you are asleep. I often have weird dreams and I thought it would be fun to share them and ask people to do the same. Maybe they can inspire someone to write a nice story or adventure game? At least we could get a good laugh. Sometimes I even dream of AGS!

Two days ago I had a strange dream - I talked to Miez about FoY and why it all ended. Embarrassingly, I was also asked what happened to Shattenreyze  :-[
Dreams are weird  :-D

I was contacted by a member who had concerns regarding eligablity of voting categories. They mentioned, that while some people explicitly requested their game to be ignored in some categories, others asked for votes in categories where the source was from public domain material or based on other people's intellectual property. Further more, last year, best music was won by a game where all music was taken from public sources.

I understand those concerns, but currently, there is no rule specifying any restrictions here. We plan to change the rules next year to take this into account. I will create a separate thread where we can discuss those changes.

For this year, I just ask authors as well as voters to think about what they consider appropriate to justify a nomination.

It's the most wonderful time of the year... where we start to think about the AGS Awards!

Have you made any game with AGS this year? This is a friendly reminder to add your game to the AGS database. Only games that were added to the database in 2021 are eligible for the AGS Awards 2021.

Do you have some half done game or unfinished MAGS entry lying around your hard disk? Maybe you can find some time during the holidays and finish it off.

What are you waiting for?
#38
I noticed that download of my games failed, both in Firefox and in Chrome. As far as I understood, this was some malware protection mechanism of the browser. The link on the game page was still http instead of https and the browser wouldn't let me access the file because I was coming from a site with https. I fixed the link for the game and now download works again.

Would it be a good idea to fix this for all games in the database, that is, automatically change all http:// to https://
Or would this cause other problems?

I am thinking about summer vacation.
I was lucky with my vaccination dates and will be fully vaccinated beginning of July. However, we are travelling with small children.

Originally, we wanted to go camping in Sweden in June, but this now seems difficult. So I plan to go on vacation in August instead, hoping that the situation will be easier then. However, Sweden still requires travelling through Germany and Denmark and everybody seems to hate Sweden atm and I don't want to risk being sent to quarantine on the way back home in any of those countries. I'm also not sure what the weather is like in Sweden in August. Three years ago we went there in June and we had wonderful weather, hardly any rain.

The other option would be to book a package holiday in Greece. I've heard that Greece will be very lenient regarding any COVID measures, basically ignoring small children, but I wonder if going there in August is a good idea (is it too hot maybe?).

What is the situation in your country? Do you have any vacation plans?
