It's a pity you are leaving. Thank you for all you did for the community including hosting, the agser.me service, MAGSAN, the games you worked on, ...
I remember meeting you at AdventureX and that it was nice to finally meet you IRL.

I wish you all the best and hope you will drop in here from time to time.

@Snarky Thank you for the reminder!
Done and done

An award nomination or even win will definitely give the game some attention, usually a few people blog about it at least. The "For Your Consideration" thread is the first step to get there.

Have you made a game in 2018 and want it to compete in the AGS Awards 2018? This is the topic where to showcase it!
Post a database link, a brief description and some pictures (thumbnails preferred, here is an excellent FYC post from last year).

Do not be shy, by posting your game you are helping the players who will take some of their time to play/nominate/vote!

Usual remarks:

  • please include a link to your games page on the AGS games database
  • if you think a game deserves mention but the author isn't around, post a FYC for them! The more worthy games we get here, the better it is for everyone!
  • this thread is for FYC posts only, if you want to discuss the awards go here!

Post your games here before nominations start. The earlier you post, the more time people have to play your game!

How do the AGS Awards work?
(This is information mostly for new members, same procedure as every year)

Spoiler
Every year, the AGS community embarks on a quest to find the best games made in the last year. All games are eligible, that were added to the AGS Database in the year 2018. There is a For Your Consideration thread where authors can promote their games and players get a good overview what might be worth playing.

The awards are a two-step process: First there is a nomination phase where all community members can nominate the eligible games in several categories (it will be the same categories as last year). The top five games of each category make it to the voting (as long as they've received at least five nominations). Again, all members of the community can vote on their favourite games.
The final result is then announced in a live ceremony that can be joined either with a special client or any regular irc client.

Party like it's 1990 in this thread!

The [ br ] and [ endsummary ] tags don't seem to work in the games DB description (Example: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2314/).
However, just putting line breaks directly into the edit window works (Example: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2316/)

I guess you got the point intuitively: the icicles play jingle bells and you have to continue the song (the idea was that due to resonance, the icicle would oscillate and finally break when you use the right frequencies).
The length of the icicles correlates with the pitch, so once you figured out that you have to play Jingle Bells and which one plays the base tone, you should be able to solve the puzzle. I'm glad you did, I thought the puzzle might be too difficult.
The magpie has nothing to do with it, you cannot interact with her before the icicles are gone anyway. But if you interact with the icicles and then talk to the reindeer before solving the puzzle, she will give you a hint (and an option to skip the puzzle, in case you can't hear the audio)

I see it as well, I think because I have admin rights on the game DB (I sometimes help people fix their DB entries when they locked themselves out).
Maybe you have them as well? Some people were given those rights during one of those "fix screenshots and download links" activities.

Happy Birthday, Creamy!
#1471
Great that you added the game and that you gave it some polish!
I remember the great atmosphere but also some of the puzzles being overly difficult because of missing descriptions and two way interactions. I'm glad that this should be sorted now.

Changing the title of the database entry shouldn't be a problem. Just keep in mind to create a new database entry when you significantly change the game (i.e. more than a bugfix but a real extended version).
#1472
Thanks! I hope you will not be disappointed because the first part does not have rhymes or cotton wool snow (but there is cling film water, at least  ;))

I vote for lorenzo's Zorro

I thought about doing a pic of them fleeing the opened Ark from Indiana Jones, but didn't have time to do it.

Santa and the Orphanage by Slasher
Spoiler

It was a cute game in typical Slasher style. The music and story and colourful graphics gave my nice Christmas vibes and it was fitting the given topic.
It thought it was funny that in this game the star of the tree was missing as well  :) .
I didn't quite like the automatic inventory, I think picking an inventory item yourself and using it on a hotspot adds interactivity. I was terrible at catching those falling items  :P

The Goat Crone by The Outer Zone
Spoiler

The graphics, animations and atmosphere (very fitting background music) were outstanding. The setting and story were good, the puzzles average with the pond puzzle a nice addition.
I was disappointed by the ending. The MAGS topic was met only so-so.

My vote
Spoiler

After playing The Goat Crone I didn't like being in this dark mood from the game and the unsatisfying ending, when it was actually Christmas. So I played Slasher's game again, just to get into a better mood.
That's why I voted for Santa and the Orphanage, because I enjoyed it better overall.

The Member Map seems to link to the old one and terribly out of date. I'd remove it completely.

The map linked to on the forums (https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=googlemap) is definitely up to date... How do you define "the old one"?  I think it may be the style changed slightly, but it's definitely using up to date information, and the latest Google Maps API.

In your profile page, the marker is in Rotterdam. But you are not shown on the member map there. If this member map requires to be updated separately by each member, I think it's quite useless. Either use the locations from the user profile or remove the link to the map.

Continuing with issues:

The Member Map seems to link to the old one and terribly out of date. I'd remove it completely.
On the games page, some games don't have a screenshot in the overview, but when you open the page and click on one of three tiny preview screenshots, it is shown correctly. Happens for some of the pick of the month.
#1479
Thanks AGA for your efforts!

I managed to turn on https for my webspace. But I had to change the URL of my avatar manually to https.
Interestingly, other images (like here https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=56539.msg636596982#msg636596982) seem to work.
Is it possible to update all avatar links automatically in the database?

Edit: Another issue: Picks of the months seems to be reset to July 2017
#1480
Images from http sites don't load anymore. I'll try to set up https with my hosting provider, but need to pay for that separately and I need some time for it.
In the meantime, I linked the screenshot from the database entry in the most recent completed games and MAGS thread. At least game download still works.

And regarding what Traveler said: On my phone, it even looked like the right menu bar disappeared (but I actually just had to scroll there). So yeah, seems wider.

Edit: My provider updated the packages and included free let's encrypt support. What is better: wildcard or no-wildcard certificate?
