Happy birthday, Bulbapuck!

Just finished it! What a great game!

I guess that some people might be put off by the graphics from this thread because they don't look that good on the screenshots. But I must say, they work really well in-game, also with the great cutscene animations.

The most noticeable features of the game:
- The setting. This is really unique - a female stunt pilot in a 1920ies film company - never seen that before in a game.
- The soundtrack. HandsFree totally captured that silent movie music feel and the themes depending on the location.
- The puzzles. A broad variety, always fitting the storyline, the right difficulty and a clever hint system.

A puzzle I loved was
Spoiler
finding all guns. I like hidden object games and never can find the last item. Guess what, this time it was really not there - simply awesome.

Also the film titles
Spoiler
are a great take on insult sword fighting. I think the posters were great and I looked at all of them even before there was this puzzle. Good hint about looking in the vicinity of the studio, I totally missed the poster first. The Oasis title, as mentioned by others, was too cryptic.

Small issue
Spoiler
as mentioned in the hint and tips, the in-game hint for decrypting the message does not make any sense unless you have found the other note.

I also enjoyed those other puzzles, like

the code decryption, the knocking puzzle, the secret box,...

I also liked the smooth game-flow. Once you completed a task, something would happen somewhere else to keep you going. Very good pacing over all.
I like that you can look at all characters and get an explanation who they are. I get always confused in movies who is who if there are more than, say, three characters, so beeing able to resort to this helped a lot.

At the beginning I was a bit confused by the interface, but it turned out to work pretty well and smooth.

What could be improved is the responses to looking at objects. I like that there are not that many hotspots so you focus on the game and story instead of looking at tons of items, but if there is an eye icon over a hotspot, there should be a response.

Also some dialog options should be removed later during the game, when they don't make sense anymore. Instead there should be updated options about recent events.

Anyway, this game is highly recommended!

Let's google the walkthrough :-D

That was all because of lamps. Lamps are evil and should be avoided whenever possible.

No, I'm sure it was the lemur girl. :-D

Since playing the first game, I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

I'm tempted to get my 4y old play this one... all it's need if WHAM's "no text" implementation to be perfect for any kid! (nod)

Now that I've played WHAM's game, I agree that his "no text" implementation is awesome. Maybe I'll try something like this for my next game (whenever this may be...)

Highly impressive that you made this in one week.

To be honest, I'm much quicker at crafting than at pixel art - if I were to draw all this stuff, I wouldn't have finished the game by now :P

Since it was not done yet:

Hm, after playing the video, the cursor disappeared. Is this intentional?

Edit: Ok completed the game, the cursor did reappear after some blind navigating.

Amazing game! I have to point out that I'm using one of those super old IBM keyboards (and with super old I mean it doesn't even has Windows keys yet) which also makes the appropriate hacker sound ;-D
Great atmosphere, with the breathing sound, monitor effect and old console feel.
#2693
But be aware, that older AGS versions will not work with those changes. I'm afraid that there will have to be two different versions of the module :-\

Global functions moved to Room class
GetRoomProperty ---> Room.GetProperty
ProcessClick -> Room.ProcessClick

I like to use the alpha because the developers need feedback and bug reports now, not when the official version is released. I don't know if it is popular, though.
Since the template is shipped with AGS, at least for the final release it has to be working with the engine/editor.

For now, it is not a big issue as I can quickly edit the few occurrences myself. I just wanted to give you a heads-up that this will be required in the future and is not overlooked.
#2695
The version included in the latest alpha needs to be updated, i.e. processClick.
#2696
@Cuiki, on the other hand, there is no room restriction in the AGS game database - you could (and should!) add an extended version of the game there ;). The OROW entry feels like it is the intro to a much longer story.

As promised, here are some mini-reviews from me. I added some + and - for each game. As I was really amazed by the high quality of the entries, the - are mostly minor suggestions or issues.

Spoiler

Alien Escapade
+ Great graphics and music, the combination of them gave me a real DotT-feel. Bending the screen was an awesome idea and the win for best scripting is well deserved. My favourite in the graphics category.
- I had no idea what to do. The weird font was a unique idea and somehow fitted the theme, but it also reduced enjoyment. I even tried to run winsetup.exe again and looked for the language option "English" but alas, it was not there. Even with knowing that the games are interconnected the puzzle does not make sense at all. This is NOT a matter of upside down but the open vent was opposite the tent.

Crash Course
+ Super-cute graphics, funny story and great characters. That stereotypical politician was hilarious. This game also did the best interpretation of the theme, because it was really uncontrollable. The timer added a feel of time pressure.
- As much as the game fitted the theme there was no actual gameplay, which somehow reduced the fun it made. Also the move in the card game was completely pointless ;)

Dislocation
+ I enjoyed the funny writing and interesting ending (to me it was clear, that this was the end of the game and not a crash). The graphics were nice although the room felt a bit empty.
- There were some glitches (being able to take the pink stuff twice, dialog for already solved puzzle, walkable areas) but nothing really important.

Flophouse Hijinks
+ Funny dialogs and I did like the characters with different personality. There was a lot to do and interact with.
- The graphics are rather sloppy and there are also several bugs.

Hybrid
+ Great retro graphics and music and a weird setting for a game. I enjoyed the classic puzzles and removing the brain with a spoon :P I voted for Hybrid as best game.
- Save does not work although it is mentioned in the intro screen and you can die.

Rogered
+ Best concept. Using the IME as apple made me crack up. The game reminds me a bit of META (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/653/) which is also the origin of Cuppit, who appeared in my game as Big Blue Cup. So in a way we made some kind of unintentional cross-over as well :P
- It feels a bit rushed and directionless with some random pixel hunts.

Sunrise Paradise
+ Interesting setting and moving story. The pretty graphics and facial expressions add a lot.
- I voted for this game in the "Worst abuse of the theme" category because it has nothing to do with "One room".

The Quiet Game
+ Hilarious voice acting and fun concept. Loved those random rants.
- There is no winsetup.exe and the game is buggy.

UNCONTROLLABLE
+ Pretty graphics and funny
- Actually, it was not random at all. I started the game several times, hoping that I would get a different screen but it did not happen. It should interchange with the pony cuddling the hero or something like that :P

Thank you so much for your kind words ;-D

About the slow speed: This is almost the OROW version, just with added credits and a fixed typo. Changing the walking speed would have required to have a look at all scripted cut scenes again, because of the timed entries and exits of characters. To be honest, I just finally wanted to release the game :P

An uncontrollable pest plagues a village and the only one who can help is Cornelius Cat's Pest Control.
Take control of the finger puppets and help to solve the mystery!

Get the game here!

This game was made for OROW 2015 and features

  • Hand-crafted finger puppets and backgrounds
  • Cling film animated water
  • A cute and hillarious story

The resolution of the game is 1280x720. If you encounter any display problems, please run winsetup.exe and choose other setting options.

On a side note: Yeah, feels good to finally release a game again... it's been quite a while.

Great that you found a solution that works for you. Good luck with your game!
