The Rumpus Room / Re: Happy Birthday Thread!

Happy birthday, AGA! I hope they bought you some cake at Mittens :-D

Dunno, it's just that the white font in front of the brighter screenshots is not readable.

For me as an adventure gamer, the text is one of the reasons that made me interested in the game. It is teasing with great puzzles and innovative gameplay instead of banal marketing phrases.

But if you aim for a more casual market, the general text might be better.

Wow, that's a great trailer, makes me want to play the game! I also like the music a lot, it gives some great vibes.

One thing I'd change (beside the obvious grammar error mentioned) is the font. Please use an outlined font, the way it is now it is hard to read.

I have found
Living Nightmare (I think it is the delux version, 1294)
and
Living Nightmare: Endless Dreams (1313)

These are not the original zip files, as I didn't have them anymore. I just zipped the games folder.

Site & Forum Reports / Re: Bug reports

Two issues:

  • I just picked a game for PotM and all the screenshots seem to be cut off. Is this a problem of the screenshot or with the webpage? Anyway, it does not look nice on the front page.
  • I still get the tapatalk spam from time to time when browsing with my phone. This is really annoying. So does at least someone know if I can use Adblock to stop this?

Thanks, I was able to finish the game :)

I think you are missing the point. AGS developers have already stated that they don't want/need money. And I fully understand that. Now it is their hobby. It's great that they do it and spend their free time to work on AGS so people benefit from it. But as soon as they get paid for it, it's not a hobby, it's work. If you get paid for it, you are responsible, you can't just take a hiatus when you feel like and people expect permanent commitment.

AGS is open source. You could actually just do like Dave & Janet Gilbert did: Write some code yourself (or pay an external programmer to do so) and provide the changes and features you made to the community.

If there is money needed for server hosting or something like that, of course I'll donate (Bakesale anyone?), but I don't want to force people to give up their hobby and work for AGS. I don't think "because you can go and update/fix it yourself" is a particularly strong reason myself.

Sounds good!

Thanks for the info, Mark!

Too bad this not as easy as I hoped it would be.
I hope things get sorted out soon, since I have to book a flight and also there might be a different event I'd attend if AdventureX does not happen. Do you maybe know the weekend AdvX will take place? Is it going to be 5/6th of December?

Ok, tried the newest alpha. The user.ico is working now, so thanks for that!
Interestingly the setup also uses the game icon in the Windows taskbar but the setup icon in Windows Explorer ??? (but it doesn't really matter, I just noticed it.)

About the setup: We should probably think about the purpose of the setup. Should the average player even need to start this? Or is this mainly for troubleshooting?

The average player will need to:
- Change the language
- Choose windowed vs. fullscreen mode
- If windowed mode, choose a resolution

What do those filters do? What is the difference between setting a different resolution and using scaling? Is it not possible to determine this automatically?
Currently, there are too many options that also seem to somehow exclude each other. If possible, I'd simplify the options even more and move all the complex stuff to advanced. This shall then only be used for troubleshooting.

Also, what is the purpose of the Save button (I know it has been there for ages, but who changes the config and does not try if it works)? I'd remove that. I think everyone will just use Save&Run. This could then also be renamed to "Start game".

Hints & Tips / The Knobbly Crook: Chapter I
Wed 29/07/2015 21:06:45
I think I'm almost at the end but now I'm stuck.

Spoiler
I have fed all creatures except the "Panhandler". I just have my suit and nails left in the inventory. I can't find the board the guy in the bar with the bird skeleton is talking about.

Will there be an AdventureX 2015?

* Fixed custom icon was not integrated into the compiled game.
Awesome, thanks!

"Bind to game scaling" means that engine should try choosing display mode equal to scaled game's size.
"Bind to game scaling (force desktop ratio" means that engine will look into first display mode equal or higher than scaled game's size, that has same aspect ratio as your current desktop resolution.
I don't really understand what this means and I don't think the average player will know. The setup is much smaller and less complicated now compared to previous versions. However, I think it's still too difficult to understand for most players.

I rather enjoyed the fishing minigame in Okami, for example. The "collect them all!" aspect of it appealed to my OCD.
Me too!

As long as the game mechanics are fun, I think nobody will have problems with a fishing game.

(unless as a food source)

Isn't that the point of fishing?

Wow, does this mean the icon issue will be fixed with the next alpha? This is awesome!
Then I don't have any more excuses for not finishing the game ;)

I just came back from vacation yesterday.

Even though I wasn't able to finish my background in time I still learned a lot from this workshop. It was great to see those different approaches to background design and the outcome.

Thank you guys for your helpful comments and tutorials. And special thanks to loominous for organising this activity!

I was getting worried that maybe cat ate tabata and then went away to take a long nap somewhere...Haven't seen both around in a while and the forums are a lot less fun without them :~(

I was on vacation and took several long naps, indeed! .

However, I didn't eat any fellow AGS forum members, I promise!
