Yeah, redirect the talk when the main channel is muted to #ags or another #awardstalk channel. This can even be a separate box above the chatbox.

AGS Games in Production / Re: ** Money Cab

I think people want to know if questions will be chosen randomly from a large pool of questions so you can play the game several times without repeating questions.

I was copying code from my previous games. And then, when I had a question and could not proceed - just when I went to the chat to ask, the forums were back and the search gave me a post of Ghost that answered it all - thanks forums, thanks search, thanks Ghost!

We have to get to the dome, but where are we now? Obviously the dome is up somewhere - should we try the elevator again?

I like Iceboty's 5: People usually don't walk around giving random items to random people (at least I think so). Just make sure that B mentiones in the first conversation that he needs that item.

A few other solutions:
6) To get the item, you need something you get from B (key, some tool, ...). I.e. "I need this item, take this key and get it for me"
7) When getting the item, have another NPC around telling the player that B might need that thing.

I'm sure it'll be videoed to a degree, but that doesn't really help build a budget for the event to happen in the first place :-\

Well, if it is of any help, I could buy such a ticket before the event to help funding and get the video afterwards.

Is there going to be some "Stay at home" ticket? You could record the live talks on video and offer them as a download after the event.

I think that's mostly because games are so often rated by their graphics. Some people will really say things like "This looks blocky and not at all like EyeCandy2000, so it MUST BE A BAD GAME." It's a stupid thing to say, but there we are.

Graphics are an important part of Point&Click AGs. Otherwise it would be just IF. You can't blame people for not liking a certain style. Of course, they could choose not-offensive words to express their opinion about a game, but hey - there are always a lot of a**h***s around...

I don't understand why this adventure game debate is centered around graphics. Do I enjoy lowres pixel games? Yes! Do I enjoy highres games? Yes! If I had to choose between those two screenshots I'd probably choose Machinarium even though the other one has sheep and I love sheep (but I'm severly put off by those medieval fantasy settings). I absolutely loved the rich and detailed backgrounds of Whispered World but also the backgrounds of FOA or FOY. Beautiful graphics are beautiful graphics, no matter which style is used. Take a painting by van Gogh and one by Jan Brueghel - there is no better style, just different preferences.

Does the graphic make a lot of difference gameplay-wise? I'd say no. So my suggestion for the genre naming conflict would be "Point and click adventures" like mentioned before.

Looks like Jeff Bridges. No Idea about the movie though.

Really? I think he looks like Val Kilmer...

Happy Birthday, Ben!

Yay!

Could you release the translation file? Ekeko offered to do a translation and others might want to do that too. It's quite common that translations are added later on.

Great, I did like the Christmas game a lot!

Found a bug in beta 5:

I was in the vampire twin room, ate the cockroach. Then I wanted to access the inventory, missed Merrick, he walked somewhere, I clicked him again. Then the inventory came up, but it was all disabled with waitcursor, couldn't do anything anymore (no click, not close the gui, nothing)

btw, do I have to either eat the cockroach or the pine cone or both?

SAVE/LOAD GUI - For a five minute game???  I remember customizing one a while ago.... I think it was for Besieged.  I don't remember liking the process....

Yeah, true, that's not needed. Although I actually saved the game once or twice when playing.
#3857
I love that quit GUI, ghost! Now we only need a custom save/load gui. Aren't there modules for that?
#3858
I had no problems with pixelhunt.

I have to agree that "Drop item" is a bit misleading, I thought I would drop the item to the floor too. Could you rename it to "Deselect" or something?

- There definitely has to be some hint about clicking self bringing up the menu. Just knew because I read something about it in this thread. Also, you first click him to solve a puzzle and then it is the inventory - quite confusing!

Quoting myself is weird, but I have an idea: How about showing a messagebox (display, like the inventory descriptions) after picking up the first inventory item like "You pick up the <itemnamehere>. Click on Merrick to access your inventory."

Just played the game for the first time and I have to say - wow! Looks great and real fun to play. Some issues I noticed (not sure if someone mentioned them already):

- TAB should open the menu screen with inventory and save/load, not the standard inventory window.
- There definitely has to be some hint about clicking self bringing up the menu. Just knew because I read something about it in this thread. Also, you first click him to solve a puzzle and then it is the inventory - quite confusing!
- Two minor walkable area issues: When the blond is lying on the floor you can walk on his head; when the fridge door is open, you kinda walk through it.
- In the vampire twin room, when they are waiting for your last words: wrong hotspot "Vampire" somewhere on the left side.
