Number 2 looks rather generic and boring. I'd like to see number 3 with number 1 glasses or the other way round. Now there is either round head and round glasses or square head with square glasses.

You should show not only the title page but also 2 or 3 pages from inside the book. I can't imagine just from the description how the book will look like and if it is something I would like to read.

I think The Oracle is a good example of a game with photo backgrounds. But the point is, the game is 1st Person. No characters that don't fit the style and the objects blend amazingly in the background.

I'm sorry but I have to say your combination of photo and drawn charater looks indeed cheap.

Not really, but as every method seems to need a brush as a parameter no need for a pen. Nevermind, just saw that DrawRectangle needs a pen.

Also, you don't need to fiddle with pens, you can use SolidBrush instead.

@Ryan: You can override onpaint of a control and then paint on the graphics. The magic google word is "owner drawn".
