General Discussion / Re: Deluxe Paint II

Well, I do think it is rather userfriendly and simple to use. You can use left and right arrow keys to navigate from frame to frame and up and downkey for the layers. And with enter you start the animation preview.
Sadly, I had some problems that the program crashed when I was using another fullscreen application. Maybe I will try the linux version. Usually if there is a Linux and a Windows version of the same software the Linux one is more stable (it's the same with Synfig, a vector animation program).

But thanks for the info about the trial version. I'll check it out!

Has anyone of you experience with Allegro Sprite Editor? I've tried it and it seems quite useful, although the look and feel is rather ...antique  ;) On the other hand it has great shortcuts for making animations.

I would be interested if pro motion is better/easier to handle.

Hey, I like the idea of using block diagrams for puzzles. I have to do this for my game because I was already wondering how to get a good overview there.

Is there any chance that AGS will run in Mono?

There is newer version available but I don't want to install Vbiox, windows, and everything again.

So if I use this Virtual box I also have to install Windows? Is this rather a VM than an emulator? I actually consider bying a small laptop so I can work on my game everywhere but I want to install Ubuntu and not Windows. And VMs tend to use lots of resources which might not be available on a small laptop.

Ok, I was confused because there are quite a lot games released in a year. So I thought this would be too much for your layout and that there would be some filtering before. Sorry.

Huh, wow, on first view it looks quite confusing.

How are the games determined which are available for nomination and thus will have their own row on this page?

I just don't get it Stan. What exactly is your problem? That there are only a few hi-res games? Obviously people here do not care about the resolution but if a game is good and fun/interesting to play. And this doesn't has anything to do with pick of the month (which I think does a very good job in promoting less noticed games) but with the preferences of people making the games.
You want more hi-res games? Great, so make some, and stop complaining.

The woodplanks look great! Just the windows don't seem right. There should either be something shown inside the house or curtains in the windows.

Ok, so Neutron is the winner, congratulations!
Please start a new competition.

Thanks to all participants!

Idea - Neutron The idea is beyond crazy - I love it!

Atmosphere - Neutron The drawing style and the choice of colors add a lot to the atmosphere

Composition - Ben The lines in the background create a lot of depth.

Functionality - Yarooze Clear walkable areas and exits. Ben's is just close after that but Neutron's walkable areas are way too small.

Technique - That's the hardest one. Every entry has good technique according to the chosen style. My vote goes to Neutron

Why do you think having the game in OUR database is a requirement?  Just to establish a date of release?  I don't think so  ;).

So Quest for Yrolg isn't a candidate for best parody/remake. Seems to be a special QFG2VGA category  ::)

I hated this gui. I always mixed up the icons with the hands. I also hated the small inventory gui, combining inventory items is a pain in the ...

If you really want to use the gui because you like the verbs of it, at least use different colors for the verbs to make them easily distinguishable.

Ok, it's voting time now.

The categories:

Idea - The underlying idea to the background. Doesn't
necessarily have to coincide perfectly with the theme of the
week, just strike you as interesting/amusing/inspiring; a place
you'd really enjoy visiting within a game.

Atmosphere - How well the image manages to evoke a certain feeling or mood.

Composition - How well the elements in the image work
together/are positioned in relation to each other.

Functionality - How well it would work when adding sprites,
including appropriate walking distances, a good angle for
character sprites, clever walkway solutions, easily understood
exits, etc.

Technique - How well the ideas are executed in form of
rendering.

Voting ends on 10th of October.
