I got this: http://bicycle.agsarchives.com/ which I think is most of the stuff that was located on that url when it was live. I've not been able to add all the stuff to the main site yet.
Wow, thanks for this!

There were a couple of games I was looking to try out, but the links were broken.  Now I'm ready to play!

I feel that the artist has a strong desire to see an ogre in lipstick.

It's good art, and I like the improvements you've made.

Thanks for playing, guys!

And thanks for the feedback!

There are a handful of issues that I never resolved, like the Escape Pod.  Originally, it would have been more of a puzzle, but I was pressed for time.  72 hours is a lot shorter than it sounds!

I would like to add some more polish to the game, but I think I'd rather just accept this game for what it was and use all of the knowledge I gained on the next project.

This is a fascinating project.  It's amazing what you guys can do with this engine.

This thread is as informative as it is entertaining.

Congratulations on completing the Ludum Dare!

I played your game and really enjoyed it.  The story was quite interesting.  The gameplay was atypical of a game made with AGS.  Very linear (well, more of a zig-zag), but nice.

I saw space, I want to see more!

Thanks, I really appreciate it!  Let me know what you think when you get a chance to play it!

I'm pretty happy with the results, even though there are a few things that I never really got around to.  I'm sure I could do a lot more with more time.  I was just happy to finally make a game, rather than just talk about it.

By the way, The Bum was an awesome game.  I actually played it whenever I was taking a break from making this game, it was a great motivator!

Dark Black: a minimalist monomyth

This weekend marked the 26th Ludum Dare Game Jam.  This time, the theme was Minimalism.  I participated in this 72 hour game design challenge with a good friend of mine.  This is my first game, and I'm very excited to have completed it.  I hope you all enjoy it!

Dark Black is a short science fiction adventure game made by Purplescape and dactylopus.  It tells the story of a cruel villain and his evil plot to transform you and your village.

Just finished the game.  Got a little stuck here and there, but I should have tried things repeatedly rather than ruling them out when they didn't work the first time.

Excellent work, both of you!

I really enjoyed this game.  I liked the characters, particularly Evil Man Thomas.

The ending is fantastic.  I had to re-launch the game so I could watch it again.

I'm not mental, I'm just stuck.

I can't figure out what to do next.

Spoiler
I have the red valve.  I cannot access the tool box.  I get no new conversations.  None of the items I have seem to work anywhere, or on each other.  I can't reach the shirt, can't break the branch, can't get through the door and padlock, and I can't think of anything else I haven't tried.

Maybe I am mental.

This game is a lot of fun!

Congratulations on releasing it!

I did happen upon an error:

Spoiler

This happened when trying to use an item on the skull.

Still trying to figure out the game, but having fun.

The third (3/4) lacks the shading that the others have, but is the best looking sprite.

The first looks good, but the shoulders / upper arms look a bit bulkier than in the other poses, where they looks more natural.  I'll admit it does look better against a background than alone.

The side view doesn't really have a nose to speak of.

Aside from these few minor critiques, I think they look fantastic.

Have a look at these links:

Real Bits 1
Real Bits 2

These aren't games, but a series of still images.  While it's obvious that you're looking at sprites on photos, I think it's done well and none of the pixel art looks particularly out of place.  Granted, some of these images are using editing techniques and almost all include a pretty nice shadow, but I still think the point remains.

It will only look as cheap as your photos and sprites, in my opinion.

I would try to capitalize the B and D.  The H and I should be much easier.

I also agree that the M and W could mimic the E and 3.  And the 6 does look off.

Other than that, it's a good looking small font!

What about a variant of #1?

You could integrate it into the Verb Coin on the Player.  This way, you would not need to interact with another object, only yourself.

This looks awesome, and you've already made a lot of progress.

Keep up the good work!

Since I am fairly new here, and didn't play all of the games, I didn't participate in the Awards this year.

That said, I would like to voice my support for the concept of individualized awards.  The artist should win for the art, the programmer for programming, etc.  Also, a Best Sound category could encompass both music and effects, and Best Gameplay could include puzzles.

But anyways, congratulations to the winners (and nominees) this year.  To be honest, while a 2nd (or even 3rd) place award seems nice, being a nominee is prestigious in itself.  I'll agree with blueskirt when he said "players use these results to decide which games to play or not."  That includes the list of nominees.

But to the point of the original post, I don't think there needs to be an altogether different set of awards for commercial games.  If anything, perhaps Best Game could be awarded to 2 winners: Best Game (Commercial) and Best Game (Freeware).  This way they are essentially the same award.  Marking each game in the awards list as (Commercial) or (Freeware) would be helpful, mostly to the players who are looking for games to download.

was he ever NOT in vogue?!
Indeed!

The demo was nice.  Its great to see how it all works.  The story seems interesting, the characters are amusing, and I love the music.  Well done, you've got a good looking game!

Thanks for the response!

I would like to use Unity in the future, so it helps to hear about the experiences of others.

I wish you luck with the game, it looks like a lot of fun!
