General Discussion / Xna Adventure Game Engine
Fri 11/02/2011 19:27:41
Does anyone know anything about this engine.
Apparently AGS games can be exported to it.
It seems to be alpha.

In-game the dialog shows up as red text on top of black text.
The red is over the top of the black text and is the same text.
What is wrong?

I noticed AGS doesn't handle character editing well.
Examples: one imports a png image and find that artifacts occur.  When edited more artifacts can be created.
Include loss of image quality.
I thnk AGS needs an editor for character sprites, one that helps to prevent artifacts and loss of quality.
The transparency seems to act funky. Especially using photos rather than drawings.

I started with the verb coin template, but I do not want to use it now.
Can I change templates mid-production without starting new game?

Sorry I could only get my laptop to save one screenshot.
"Bapu" is an interactive documentary about the life of Mohandus Gandhi.
It's focus is more on the soul of the man rather than a showing of what he did.  Not easy to do!
I am thinking about offering it to the OWN network. I figure Oprah might like it.  It would be cool for her website.
Of course I couldn't accept money for it because it is in honor of Gandhi and not making money.

It will use a green dot to change rooms and a red dot to move to a previous room.  I added a big dot for each room to view a Gandhi quote.
The music for each room is Indian music from the 1920, 1930, and 1940's.
It really is working out well.
I will be starting the dialog for each room this week.  The basic structure is in place now. All the pictures are in place as objects.
I think it is my best work so far.  I still need to get rid of that annoying blue halo around Gandhi's character. Although Gandhi probably has a halo in heaven.  If he doesn't go to heaven who would?

This is a link for the game: Sherlock Holmes Investigates Jack the Ripper

This game is an interactive documentary of the Jack the Ripper murders.
Sherlock Holmes guides you through information and photos of the murders.
At the end Sherlock picks who he thinks is the murderer.
Make sure to go to the credits after Sherlock picks the murderer.
Click on the green dot to move to the next room.  Click on the red dot to move back to the previous room.
Any click on photos will display information on the photo.

It is a nice introduction to the Ripper murders.
I updated the file link. 2-11-2011

I have been unable to find what it is for.  Tutorial doesn't mention Usermode 1&2.

My new game in production is Sherlock Holmes Investigates Jack the ripper.
It is an interactive documentary of the Ripper murders.
It is a general introduction to the Ripper murders.  I couldn't include everything, so I kept it to the murder sites, the victims, the suspects, the From Hell letter and Sherlock's pick of the murderer.
It includes all the original 1888 pictures I could find of of victims and murder sites.
It is not a typical adventure game where you move Sherlock around to solve puzzles.  It is more a click on the picture to get more info on the picture type thing.
Sherlock is on screen and does the talking, but there is no need to move him.  You can move him, but it is not necessary.
It is a good documentary game for those who never have checked out the Ripper case.

I want to add a bit of color to the Gui drawings which are black and white in the default game.
How do I find them to open them in my painting program?
I found the change background color control, but where does the program store the images which I want to edit more.

I am doing an interactive\documentary type game about the Ripper Murders.
I have pictures as objects on the room that is all 100 % walkable area.
I want to click on the picture object and have a larger version show-up on the room elsewhere.
Maybe even have the player use a magnifier from inventory to enlarge the picture.
How would I do this?
I was thinking overlays, but I am not sure.

General Discussion / Upload not working
Wed 05/01/2011 16:01:40
I would like to upload my Danse Macabre game.  The upload utility does not work.  It was also hard to find.
Found by forum search.
How can I  upload?
29 meg file, 52 meg full upload.  Less size as zip file

The printscreen function of my Dell Inspiron notebook apparently doesn't work.
I have searchedeverything in AGS and the forums and the AGS website and can't find info.
How do I take a snapshot inside the running game?

AGS right and left click open source template (ALARCOST).
I can't seem to get it to work.  I start a new game and it doesn't show up.
Is there a newer version?

General Discussion / Uploading game questions

When I upload the game or building the game are the music and sound files automatically included?
I noticed the upload utility wouldn't accept my forums user name or password.

AGS Games in Production / My first game
Tue 28/12/2010 20:44:31

This is a pic from my first game "Danse Macabre."
It is a mild horror game and will be a very simple game.  I am still learning and don't expect a masterpiece.

I didn't know about the whole Ron games community.  My game uses Davy and Death.  I did know the resources were free to use.

Can I buy a pro version of AGS?

I have read the tutorials, program help, searched the forums, and tried out a bunch of script, but couldn't solve the problem.
Scaling of the characters does not seem to work.
I do have small rooms, in a scary mansion; maybe that is why I don't see any scaling!
What function can I use to make sure the scaling occurs?
I did use Rep_Exec to scale the character down 50% in one room script, but it kept occuring in the following rooms.
