Thanks for the replies, I will check the PPCollision out.
I didn't really understand the first response.

Why didn't you paste the code instead of re-typing it?
There's no way this compiled like that.

Never mind though, the problem is that this function calls itself (also known as recursion).n

The region's RunInteraction(1) is the "walks onto" event itself.

What do you want to do here?
I want the character to die when he gets to close to a killer plant.
I have to go out of my desktop and get onto my wife's desktop to use the internet.
AGS won't run on her desktop for some reason.
I tried it using a hotspot, but that froze up the game to.

By the way I get a database error trying to use the search function.

Function Region1_WalkOnto(1)
{
Region[1].RunInteraction(1);
FadeCharacterOut_NoBlock(cNano, 100, 2);
Display(".");
}

The fadeout does not happen.  The message displays and freezes the game.

General Discussion / Re: Inventory collection?
Sat 20/08/2011 19:28:02
I need more input.
What type of file do people use?
Png, jpg, gif?
I use all png files, but whatever most people use?
Any other info I need to know and haven't mentioned, let me know that to.

Good suggestions.
But just to be clear, I am not doing hand drawn items.  Photo items.  I suppose I could cartoonize some items.
That might look interesting.
I will have to check that out and see how it looks.

General Discussion / Inventory collection?
Fri 19/08/2011 15:27:01
I am planning to create an inventory objects collection.
What would be a good size for the inv items?  35x35 standard?
What items would be the most wanted?  Tools, toys, fruit, make suggestions.
Maybe objects would be wanted to.  Furniture, machines, computers, make suggestions.
I like making them and plan to put my games aside for the time being.

Thanks for the reply.
Solved.
I think I will work best to just change the background
photo in Gimp.
#208
The region editing allows brightness to be changed, but it only affects the character.
I looked in the help and searched the forums, but there was nothing on my problem.
In my Documentary about Jennifer Jones, I want to highlight the background images by making
sections of the background darker and lighter.
Just the background image.
Is there a way to do that?
It would be nice to be able to do that in the region editor.
I will change the background in my photo editor if necessary.

Problem fixed, thanks to the responders.
I just made itemheight and itemwidth larger, now it works perfect.

My main big puzzle is the player has to collect musical notes. Then at  the end they will have to
put the musical notes on a piece of paper in the correct order. If they don't, they die.
If they do they autochangeroom to the conclusion end and survive.
I want to try hard to get it scripted on my own before asking for help. I used a fragment of Mozart music which you
have to solve puzzles to find.

Thanks for the replies. Yes some of the inventory sprites are larger than others and some wider.
I will check out the things you both mentioned right now.
By the way the game I am working on is a take off on "The Marionette" from Team Effigy.
First person, horror.  I am thinking about calling it "The Judge."
#211
It works if I click on the very top of the inv item.
I made the size of the inventory gui bigger and inv items smaller and still I have to
click near the top of the icon.
I am going to check the Inventory property pane now.
#212
Thanks for the great reponse.  I will check all that out
#213
function oTwist_UseInv()
{
cJudge.ActiveInventory = iBook;
Display("You use the Book to smash the twisted head.");
cJudge.LoseInventory(iBook);
FadeObjectOut(oTwist, 100, 2);
Display("There is a paper in the twisted head. You pick up the paper.");
cJudge.AddInventory(iPage);
}

Above is the code for it.  What is happening is I can't get the mouse to pick up the book in Inventory.
This code worked in another game and I don't get any error messages.
I was working in the global script before this putting looks in for all the inventory objects.
Could I have changed something by mistake?

I think it would be a good idea to create a forum or thread just for newbies and the more advanced AGSer who doesn't mind answering
simple questions.
Of course the rules would say to check the documentation first.
This would help stop the constant negativity totals newbies who are having a problem getting their head around using AGS.
Maybe the introductory thread could contain a basic, basic description of how to start using AGS.  Such as functions, events and the like.
It would be prohibited to say go to the documention and that is a stupid question.
The documentation does not often help I have found.
And for those who don't believe it, I have always looked to the documentation first everytime.
The person that makes this decision, think about it.

Those advanced AGSers who really get upset with basic questions should avoid the beginner thread.

General Discussion / Louise Abbema
Tue 26/07/2011 14:11:06
I have started a new documentary.
It is about the woman artist Louise Abbema. 1853-1927
It shouldn't take too long, because I don't have to do the interface and all that.
I already have all that set up from other documentaries I have done.

This module is for a very specific purpose. If you dont know what it does then you probably dont need it.

I know you are one of the more helpful, experienced AGS uses.
I am not attacking you here.
But your answer leaves the newbies completely out...  I appreciate your helpful cheerful demeanor.
#217
I will restate my question.
I was asking for a specific example of how module can be used.
Can it be used to make a character look better?
Show an example.
I know you are attacking me and don't help me, but other newbies might want to use this.

You quoted my post so I assume you also read it, but you didn't take 2 seconds out of your busy schedule to check the link yourself?
Oh my.

The link still does not work.
It is in the danse macabe directory.  It is working. I get there.  Do you know hoe to use your computer

Give this a play Guys.
It really is better.  I have learned alot.
If you are interested in good anime movies this should interest you.
#220
The name is right in the game. I just typed it wrong in the post.
I avoided the gay aspect of the story.
Did anyone actually play it, or or you just having fun making things up?
