Narcoleptic Weight Loss Expert

Narcoleptic Weight Loss Expert is a strategic button clicking game in which you must help a man get fit, whilst struggling to stay conscious. Using calorific transubstantial technology you are able to trade the calories burned by your client to purchase new items to stay awake and keep motivated.

But really it's all about the music.

This was originally a 4 hour random name generator game jam that we made a year ago and added some more crap to later and then promptly forgot about.

ddq: Coding and direction
Azure: Writing and item sprites
MattFrith: Background and animations
enkerro: Music
Grundislav: Voice acting

Download the game.

Download the soundtrack.

The most popular game will win the most awards. People are told to play all the games before voting and they don't. What I propose is to have an opt-in academy system that anyone can join, in which the player must verify with an academy moderator that they have completed every game in the category before being able to vote, possibly by sending a screenshot or photo of them reaching the endings. This could be done on a category basis, so someone wouldn't have to play every best short game nomination to vote for best full game, for example. It's definitely not a perfect idea, but I like how it marries the openness of the current system with the reliability of a closed set of qualified voters, which I usually distrust (see the Oscars). I'd love to hear critiques and alternate suggestions.

On the other side of things, I agree the number of awards should be trimmed down and similar ones merged wherever possible. We should probably keep categories like demo, non-adventure, etc. that are immune from the sweeps.

Yep, two years ago. That is a past me. In the last two years, I did what duals should have done: left AGS and grew up.

The ceremony reflected incredibly poorly on AGS as a community. The people defending the offensive immaturity in this thread make it seem like an accurate reflection.

Had a great time. Very nice meeting everyone. Thanks to the organizers for making my time in London so spectacular!

The player played the game, that's all that should matter.

General Discussion / Re: Diet weight loss
Sun 17/02/2013 02:19:59
Yes, structured diets are bullshit. No, weight is not entirely genetically determined. Yes, it is a product of both lifestyle and genetics.

What you eat and how active you are influences your weight, the magnitude of that influence is determined by metabolism. It would be ignorant to say that the food you eat and your level of physical activity have no effect on your body. If I chose to eat only Big Macs for the rest of my life delivered to me by my servant boy Jacques directly to my La-Z-Boy which I never leave, would my above-average metabolism keep me from gaining weight and becoming at risk of heart disease? Probably not. I'd also postulate that after a year of that lifestyle, it would be difficult if not impossible to return to my current healthy state and if I did, losing the weight would take much longer than gaining it. As I see it, obesity is much easier to prevent than cure and we as a society should encourage our children to develop healthy eating and exercise habits.

But no, "going on a diet" for a few months won't work.

While it's easy to cry "Idiocracy", a lot things are in fact getting better, especially in the areas of technology and medicine. Making specific predictions is a fool's game.

Yes, Button.NormalGraphic. You can still create it with one assigned, it matters not.

If instead of making an adventure game with VN-style conversations, you plan on making a full-fledged visual novel, use renpy. Coding a VN in renpy is *literally* trivial.

I thought the FYC thread was only for games no one played?

Please don't tell him to PM me. I don't think my poor heart could take it.

Thank you for not crediting me this time.

Don't let the door hit you dramatically on the way out.

I'm sure there's a shorter way to say "I'm a pedantic prick".

Recruitment / Re: Writer

Nope, still time. We're going back to the same place a few times, because we tried to shoot something with no script and no idea what we're doing and... it didn't go well. I am thinking about kidnapping a few of the theater majors from local colleges to act for us or maybe bribe them with free pizza.

Recruitment / Writer

I need someone to write a very simple story in like two days under certain restrictions. Basically, me and a few mates are going on a little holiday this weekend and we're going to make an FMV game, so I figured since everyone likes writing I'd throw this out there so we don't have to think. PM for the full details.

I'm cheaper than you. There are plenty of free AGS games to play. I just ignore commercial AGS games.
Golly, what an insightful and valuable contribution.

Anyway, sounds like a great deal, antipus.
