Topics - deadsuperhero

#61
Before I begin, let me say this:
I've seen many arguements that commercial adventure games are dead. I'm happy to announce that this statement is not entirely true. Now, we've seen Al Emmo, which is a great PC game, but what about the console games? Sit back and relax as I tell you about this gem of a game, released on the PSP.

MediEvil Ressurection:

The plot:

Basically, it's a remake of the Playstation 1 game.
You are a knight named Sir Daniel Fortesgue (Sir Dan for short).
You were chief knight of the land called Gallowmere.
You never were a brave knight. In fact, most of your duties involved Croquet, and just being in ceremonies.
One day, an evil wizard named Zarrok rose to power, and you were ordered to lead the fight against Zarrok.
In a freak accident, you get killed by an arrow that gets lodged in your eye, and your men defeat Zarrok. You go down in history as a hero.
Then, after a hundred years, Zarrok returns. He raises his minions from the dead, and takes control of Gallowmere.
You wake up from your eternal sleep. You have one last chance to prove you really are a hero.
Unfortunately for you, your jaw is missing. This makes speech incredibly hard to undrestand (for the characters. There's subtitles for the player) Also, you have a shrunken genie stuck in your skull that also hates Zarrok. So the two of you work together to fight Zarrok and his men.

Gameplay

The gameplay was excellent. It really reminded me of the Golbiiins games. The puzzles were challenging, and the witty dialogue was great.

Overall, I give this game a four out of five (moving with the joystick was clunky, so a point off for that)

I suggest you all play this game.

Critics' Lounge / Need help with team logo
Fri 21/07/2006 06:53:18
Okay, this is something I really am clueless about. I'm trying to make an original team logo for Dogma Day Games, and I'm just clueless.

What I want is something themed with a sword or something, and I'm going for that classic Sierra styled logo look. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do, so can someone please give some suggestions, paintovers, your own versions, whatever.
Please note: the logo isn't even original textures. It's just a bunch of random textures I found through Google and remapped to look like this. I need something better.

Space Quest III - The Pirates of Pestulon

The Story:

Well, we all know the story. Roger, asleep in his sleep chamber, wakes up on a garbage freighter. He has to get out of here, at least to do something! Come on, he may be a janitor, but geez. Anways, we only have a handful of screens done, but it's starting to come together.

Some screenshots:

April 6th, 2007

Well, the game is crawling along slowly. Some of the artists left the team, as well as a scripter. Our website is unfinished, and things are getting frustrating from time to time. We have almost no one on our forums, and this is rather sad.
So, here's the lowdown:

We are looking for:
-Artists (background, dialogue portrait, sprite, and animator)
-Musicians
-Scripter (Must be well-versed in AGS)
-Web designer (Must be able to make an appealing website, and also someone who can design an SMF theme to match the mainsite when that's done. Also needs to be fluent in PHP and CSS.)

Anywho, feel free to stop by our forums at:
www.squadronsixentertainment.com/forums

In other news, we've decided to go with a SQ4 style Roger, along with a SQ4-esque interface, and cursors.

Critics' Lounge / Help with a bartender/hero
Tue 20/06/2006 21:51:44
Okay, this is the hero for Dumb Quest

I think it's an okay sprite, but I'd like to have him sort of have a clothing style more like Samuel Adams (the one in the beer commercials)
Any suggestions?

Dumb Quest I-Quest for the Town
This is an original game by Dogma Day Games. It's basically a spin-off of the King's Quest series, and yes, there are many references to the Sierra universe.
THE STORY:
All is not well in the land of Alphredtry. The kingdom lost a major war with it's Southern enemy, Anaface. Alpredtry is extremely poor. The Kingdom's treasury is nearly empty, and there are no knights.
Meet Bob. He is a bartender, and the hero of our story. The game begins when Bob gets a letter from Anaface telling him he hasn't paid his taxes, and they will be taking his bar. Bob decides he needs to make money.
So he becomes knighted, and is renamed Sir Robert Tavern. He has to fix up the crappy town, and get 3 items. He must get the diamond from the biggest tree in Butt-Crack Forest, the Sword from the king of Anaface, and a pizza to feed Alphredtry's overweight lazy king.
Robert will make many allies, and he will travel to many random places and face extreme peril.

Now, how about some screenshots?

Bob/Robert standing outside his tavern, the Blackhoof Inn

Amazing, you get to pick things up in this game!

The rundown Castle Gluteus Maximus of Alphredtry

A quit system similar to the good old King's Quest games!

Meet weird, quirky characters like the Random Stuff stand guy!

Go to unique places, battle wicked enemies, and do idiotic side quests!

PROGRESS:
Initial progress so far has been extremely slow.
Backgrounds- 15%
Sprites- 10%
Cutscenes- 0%
Dialogue portraits- 6%
storyline- 95%
scripting- 30%

We are desperately in need of background artists and sprite artists.
Our forums are at: http://www.z4.invisionfree.com/dogmadaygames
Our site is at: www.dogmadaygames.co.nr

This game has a unique cast, we're still looking for actors, but here's who we have so far
Sir Robert Tavern...Duzz
King Ham...Largopredator
The Mystical German Mountain Man...Mozesh
The Creepy Butcher and/or the Random Stuff Stand Guy...yodaman1111

Critics' Lounge / Nose Cave
Wed 27/07/2005 19:34:00
Ok, I've been trying out new styles, and I tried out Corby's tutorial, and I made this cave for my new game, Dumb Quest (which is the ultimate spoof off of King's Quest)
Anyway, the cave is Nose Cave, because it's really a nose. Note the boogers on the rocks.
But here you are

I'm trying to make it more Sierra styled, any ideas?

Completed Game Announcements / Digilawyer
Thu 09/06/2005 19:01:49
Okay, this is a stupid joke game I made with AGS. You talk to this lawyer/stock advisor guy. The point of this whole game was just merely a test with useing a parser. This game has speech, as well as dialogue trees.
You can get the game here: www.freewebs.com/eterniagames/Digilawyer.zip
And you can get the speech pack here: www.freewebs.com/eterniagames/speech.zip

There was originally a song in the game when you kill the lawyer, but it was too big of a file, so I had to remove it.
Enjoy this stuff!

Yes, people, Dogma Day Games is remaking the classic game by Homestarrunner.com. We've taken the graphics, and touched them up, giving them a King's Quest feel. Here's some screenshots

a quick look at the beautifully redone interface, which is not only point and click, but sports a text parser as well.
A short preview should be released sometime in June.
If you want to check up on our progress from time to time, just visit us at www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygames
we also have forums there, which, if you don't want to sit through the website to get to it, you can find it at http://s2.phpbbforfree.com/forums/dogmadaygames.html

Hope you guys like it.
Oh, BTW, we're still looking for voice actors, musicians, background artists, secondary sprite artists, beta testers, and the like. So,  if you want to try your hand at this type of stuff, just PM me some of your work.
Cheers,

Critics' Lounge / My Hero Sprite: C&C

Hey, I made this guy in Photoshop, and I'm pretty happy with the result, but I have the feeling it could be better?
How can I improve it?

Okay, this is a really weird game I'm making. It's about William Howard Taft's family is abducted by aliens. The aliens threaten to eat Taft's family for dinner, and Taft says he doesn't care. The aliens are impressed, and send TAft into the future instead of eating him. This game has voices, sprites everything...except right now all I made was a short preview. Here's the link:
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/TaftDemov0.2.zip
Some screenshots:

the picture above is a crappy UFO

This picture is just a really long road used in the demo.
Tell me what you think!
NewsFlash: You can also post what you think in the games section. Just search for Taft, and post your idea of it.
UPDATE!!! Added better text box and Alec's voice. New text, and translations

Hey, I played Fatman, loved it. But there were no voices. Could someone send the speech pack to me?

Critics' Lounge / My pimpingly awesome pics
Sat 06/11/2004 20:18:49
Hey, I've gotten a lot better at making backgrounds, and would like people to make suggestions about it and stuff like that. Right now I've done 1 pic in about 10 minutes, and I'll be making more soon.
Okay, first pic:

Sorry, It's a bit big, but that's the resolution I draw in. I tried shrinking it, but that made some of it screw up.
Oh yeah, just to let you know, it's a grassy field. For those of you unaware of that, well, now you know.

Hey, I'm just curious, but how do you make a fight interface similar to that of QFG? I really need to know. I already know that you need fighting animations and such, but I'm clueless on the health stats. HELP ME!
#74
Does anyone have the windows version of QFG 4 1/2? I looked online and all they have is that stupid DOS version, which doesn't work with XP.
I also tried the site, which was down.
HELP ME! :'(
Anyway, please email it to me at webspider202@hotmail.com
#75
Hey, I'm just curious, but how do you get the character to walk off the screen. (You know, like the classic Sierra games in which the character totally walked off the screen so you couldn't see him anymore, befor fading to black) Is it an animation that you lose less pixels? Is is a cutscene? Is it some script function? I'm not sure how to do it. ??? Help me out here.

General Discussion / Tom Brokaw Sprites
Tue 20/07/2004 21:54:32
If you read the thread for 'Tom Brokaw Quest in the games in production' forum, you'll realize that Tom Brokaw looks a lot like indy. That's 'cause I didn't know what clothes to put on him, so I just found the most formal sprites possible.
Ã,  Now it's up to you. Display your version of Tom Brokaw on here so I can judge for myself ;D

AGS Games in Production / Tom Brokaw Quest
Tue 20/07/2004 18:14:50
There is a game where everyone is happy. Where light and shadow meet. Where the ending involves some King's Quest-ish magical cinematic scene. This is not that game.
Tom Brokaw Quest: Adventures in Boredom, puts you in the shoes of Tom Brokaw, one of the most boring people on the planet. (If you didn't know, he really is an extremely boring anchorman for NBC Nightly news) You have to go around the city, write news reports, and much, much more! Then, you have to confront your arch-nemesis, Bob Boringfeld (instead of Jerry Siendfeld). You will have to go to exotic locations like Boringville and Lulu Land. It's being done in the style of PQ3, and will have voice acting. Hate it. Love it. Play it. Get on with your life. Give me your opinion for this ridiculous game.

P.S: I'm looking for people who can make some really crappy music and I mean reeeeeaaaaaaaly crappy. It should be done aroun December, could be longer.
#79
With all of the other QFG-based games, I figured I might as well make my own.
You play as a bum named Chuck Hugh. It's a peaceful day in Manhattan when trouble begins. You were sleeping happily in a cardboard box when, suddenly, a crew of garbagemen picked up the box with you in it. The crew drives away, and you fall out.
Ã,  Now it's all about revenge. You must build up your status from beggar to billionare, street magician to wizard, and pickpocket to mafia leader. In a bizzare twist, you have to work almost everywhere. You steal a janitor's suit and clean up a high school. Then you meet a scientist giving a lecture. You gain intelligence by talking to him.
This game will be made in VGA and will have day-night fading cycle. I'm currently looking for background artists, so if you're interested, show your work here.

AGS Games in Production / Sean's Quest
Tue 20/07/2004 17:45:46
I started making this game about a year ago. It's about this guy named Sean, whose friend has just been abducted by aliens. Sean must travel through different Sierra games. It's humorous, witty, confusing, and has a really good parody of King Graham.
It also has voice acting. Tell me what you think.
Note: I'm already working on a sequel, where Sean get a plane ticket to Tarna.
