thanks mateys, spelling is m weakest point behind coding. i guess i know why..

after i get the load screen working the way i want ill do a total spelling grammer check up. This game is gonna be bad ass !

Okay so heres where i am so far with the list box :

I renamed the list box to : MyListBox
I assumed the name of the listbox in your example was: lstSaveGames

so heres my code so far :

hello

i made a room with a nifty bg and i made a custom gui and it has :

listbox
slider
load button
cancel button

as of right now I'm still a total scripting nub.

from reading the manual i managed to get this far with the list box :

i assumed that i would need to put 0-4 in it to called games saves but then again i think i need to put another thing in there so it knows to display a game save first the have a numberial variable.

i know I'm doing something wrong and its something as simple as my syntax. i dont know if there is a tutorial on the subject of making your own load menu so I'm hoping for a little help on this one. I'm not worried about the other things yet.

okay i said i wasent going to release another update but i wanted to see how long it would take for you guys to make it to the place holder screen.

Story line:

Existence is an americas army inspired, point and click adventure.
For those of you that have played americas army, the storyline of existence picks up after the events of the popular aa map: SF Hospital.

You play existence as the rescued VIP who has been kidnapped once again. After spending 3 days in a jailcell without seeing a soul he decides to escape before he staves. Eventually our hero will be given a name, and uncover a story of governmental conspiracy and corruption and ultimately .. save the world..

Ive been using unreal editor to setup my scenes in 3d, then use screenshots to produce my backgrounds. In unreal editor i setup a camera_trigger and a agp_viewpoint actor. this way i can spawn and view 2 locations from the same spot, make the changes i need, reload the map and take the new ss. This is critical for getting objects and spites so they place against the background perfectly.

Beware my save fuction isnt working but you shouldnt need it. the first room is pretty easy as it is meant to introduce non-point and adventure game players to the gameplay. I intead to distribute this NON-COMMERCIALY!!! specificaly on aaotracker.com for americas army players to enjoy.

got it to work!

ill tell you what u did to get it going:

in the player enters room code i used the display code to have 4 different messages appear then after you finish reading it loads into room 6 which is the first playable part of the game.

i made a gui with a bg color of 0 and imported a 1x1 pixel in .png format as a sprite and made the top left pixel transparent. this is so i can get rif of the tileing coffee cup. ( thanks for the advice various people in irc).

now ill be working on inventory and other things. so for now ill consider this issued resolved =)

OH fantastic ashen !!!

on a relevant note, i imported a font into ags.

1. how do i make this text use this font,....

2. how do i change the way the text is displayed ?
        a. it shows the text with white bg and black lettering, id rather have invisble bg (to see the bg image) and white letters with my imported font.

3. also clicking is great but id want the player to click on a button and have it display for infinity untill that button is pushed.

... imagine if you will a diary being read ...

Finaly the torture is over. Special Forces members rescued me from a hospital in the middle of nowhere. Altough I made it out alive, some of the Special Forces members lost thier lives while waiting for airlift extraction. I would rather have let them kill me then kill these young heros who came to save me.

I guess I've been getting called VIP. I guess because I'm the only one who knows how to operate the new anti missile defensive systems, We're all save now but the Special Forces guys are on edge. I wonder if something is going on that I'm not aware of. I hope I never have to kill anymore, maybe its time to retire.

so far,  i clicked on the i , in room editor / settings, then picked the player enters room after fade in, but dont see any action for displaying text...

so i choose run script.. then edit script.
so far my script looks like this :

what the freak do i do now? i dont know scripting systax or whatever, and the tutorials and help docs are confusing to me.


if i close that editor and go back to the room editor / settings and click on abc, it displays this :

would that also pertain if i turned the room into a first person ? its running in 800x600. i wish it could be higher, ill try to educate myself on those things but i dont know anything about coding =0(

using the crediz plugin btw

hey guys.

i made a menu as my room1 and that has a hotspot called New Game, when you click on it i want the workflow to do the following:

open room4 which has my pretty background, and start displaying text, it would be like reading a diary entry then you click on a hotspot in the corner and then it displays the next diary entry.

I'm guessing it should be a good idea to keep it all in room4 to keep my room numbers down. I simply dont know how to add text or make it start displaying on its own without having tho click a hotspot for it, like have it fade in with the first paragraph of text displaying.

candle suggested i use the creditz plugin but for some reason, neither he nor i was able to get it to work.. heres the error message on that.. :

candle did you use unreal editor in the first image ?

im looking to make the same style 1st person game.

i am using unreal editor to setup my scene since i can move meshes around how i like, say for an open chest or closed chest, etc.

all done via triggers and perspective actors.

ill keep an eye on your progress mate, looks good so far!

excellent thank you ! ive been following the tutorial, i guess it will be lots easier doing a game this way since i dont have to worry about al that walk command stuff.

i guess i can just use hotspots with 4 different images or more to imitate a 360 view of the room. looking at the coffin in front of me and spining around to open the door or reaching for a crowbar. =)

i have lots of questions but ill checking out the faqs before i post.

Hello everyone, im new to this community and am looking to peice together a game simular to :

thats the crimson room. its written in flash.

The point of my thread is id like to make my game in first person. Im using 3d studio max to make 3d scenes and render them out to jpg. So 1 scene will have like a closed coffin, another an open coffin... clicking on the screen can collect, turn on, open, read, and other commands, .. very simular to maniac mansion, deja vu, broken sword...  (however deja vu is the only 1st person out of them all) ... just looking for simular menu layout.

searched the knowledge base and there was only info for a 1st person shooter styled game.

thank you all for your opinions and help. im looking forward to making a fun game.
