Wow, you're young.

Ok ok, I'm only 20, but... :P

Oh, right... happy birthday!

I think skipping speech is essential when you don't have speech going on because the player reads it at his/her own pace. now in cutscenes, if the music has to sync, I guess it's acceptable to to skip speech....

Look, it depends on what you like.

If you like Multiplayer games, then xbox is the way to go. I have an xbox and it's pretty much worthless without having xbox live.

If you like single player games and console RPGs then PS2 is your friend.

If you like pretty graphics, xbox it is.

If you like the mouse, then none. Just get a computer.

If you like old school superdeformed characters and umm.. nintendo, then gamecube.

You are what you have, unless you're like me and Microsoft gives you an XBOX for showing up to some seminar they're having.. heh.

It looks messed up under 1280x1024
#1286
Here's my solution to this mess:
@S
option-on 1
option-on 2
@1
option-off 2
EGO: This is the dialog startup 1
option-off-forever 1
return
@2
EGO: This is the returning dialog startup
option-off 2
return

... and so on

Here's a secret tip I discovered recently:

Make your icon with your own colors, then reduce it to 16 custom colors, and convert it to ICO with IrfranView... then set the transparency with a real icon-making program.. and it works with AGS! Magic.

Just wait until you see the new 5 Days a Stranger icons.... if [m0ds] ever finished teh music for the game, that is.  :P

Oh, I said too much.

Advanced Technical Forum / Re:Alpha Regions

Yeah, I guess adding an object as a walk behind would make sense. I was just wondering what would slow the game more... alpha blending walk-behinds would occur only on the character... it would act normal the rest of the time (that's what I was thinking) while alpha blended objects do it on the whole backgrounds, so it's more stuff to blend.

Make sure that before you get lost forever you get a picture with the other Gilbert Cheung. :P

I was just wondering since ags now has a wide range of support for alpha blending, can you have alpha blended regions (that you would import, of course). I guess not, since I can't find anything in the help :P

General Discussion / Re:Internet ads gone wild
Mon 01/03/2004 06:34:50
The internet has ADVERTISEMENTS? I kind of forgot about it after using firefox for a while... not even those silly internet explorer-friendly ads that display on top of the page are displayed.

Other than that, you could get either the google toolbar, the yahoo toolbar, or the msn toolbar. they all block ads... but probably not those magical ads I was talking about on the previous sentence.

General Discussion / Re:monkey island remake
Thu 26/02/2004 20:56:02
You know, back in '97 I e-mailed LucasArts (when they had an e-mail thing going on) and I told them that it would be cool if they Improved Monkey Island and made it liked Monkey Island 2.....

Later I found that they had actually done that. So there is a good version of Monkey Island out there,  spud, with CD music and great old-school 256 colored graphics. Check out this link at the SCUMM bar for more info on the different versions.

Everything sounds good.... I once inherited my uncle's original atari (the 2600) but it didn't last very long... I wonder if my grandmother still has it somewhere...that would be interesting. I could bring my XBOX, you know  ;D

But anyway, it all depends on what I'm doing this summer; If I have a job and they can't let me have a week-long break, then I guess I won't go. Otherwise, I would have made enough money with that summer job so that I can go....!

2 comments....
1) Don't use Times new Roman for normal text.
2) put some padding on the contents area (where it says "Welcome, this for....")

Other than that, I like it.

General Discussion / Re:Xbox Live Players?

You know, if I had xbox live, my xbox would actually be very useful....

.... too bad I'm poor. I guess I'll keep waiting for psychonauts. ;)

You could call the game Who Wants to Pimp Forever
#1300
you could export as png with alpha channel... then import it into a 32-bit game.... and it looks beautiful. Now, about megs... that's another story ;)

Another solution is to make the background a dark grayish and then color it with your favorite transparent color on photoshop, that way the edges are not as noticeable... like I did in my tutorial: http://netmonkey.cellosoft.com/tutorials/tut1.html

You could also use the magic wand to select the transparency and then go to selection\modify\expand and expand the selction by 1-2 pixels... then erase and you would get pixelated edges without magenta.
