wow, you must really like Roger Moore. Well, he is a roger... :P

Anyway, Barcik: The characters turn thing, means that when you uses FaceCharacter or Face location, the character actually does a little turn (like with the "characters turn before walking" option) so it looks more animated.

Hey, cj, any chance of jibbling with the font display?

Funny, I was just telling everyone on #AGS how my friend found out that I was netmonkey the game designer for including my name all over my games, plus the fact that my site is hosted at mixnmojo (which seems to be hot in the search engines). I guess I waited for that moment, and he thought it was pretty cool that I made games.

Proskrito: Yeah, that's sort of what I meant. I made up a sample (DRAMATIZATION :P) using photoshop:

The spaced out sentence is the way AGS displays outline fonts right now. it's not too bad, but the longer the sentence, the worse it gets. plus, I've tested it on high resolutions... and it's probably worse in the lower resolutions. I'm also looking at this at a high resolution (1280x1024) and at 640 by 480 the difference is much more noticeable. It also looks much better if it's not spaced out :)

The best way is to convert the ttf font to a sci one by copying-pasting each character. This way I made the inferno font. It took me about 2 hours of work but the results were excellent

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, but I'm just wondering if anyone got away with it by importing a ttf font and it's outlined version and make it work correctly.

---

I have a suggestion for AGS: A drop shadow option. Yes, I could always do shadow in the SCI font. however, the font becomes too spaced out so it just doesn't look good (I'm talking in the case I have an outline font with a shadow, which looks pretty neat but as I said, it's really spaced out with the shadow).

unless there's only another option: say that the sentence is written with the normal font, then the outline font (which could include a shadow) is displayed below it, but in such a way that it overlaps with the other outlines. So I guess it'd be more like matching the center of each character. I hope you understand what I mean :P

well, so here's what happened, which may concern AGSFORUMS.com:
http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=hreadid=101459

"One of our hosted sites was running the "YABBse" forum script for their site's web board (Why they weren't using LucasForums is beyond me, of course ). The problem with this, is that just a couple of weeks ago an exploit was found in YABBse, that when exploited would allow the user to gain root access to the server. Yes, so some Brazilian ankle-biter Googled around for sites running YABBse, found our server, and made himself a home."

Has anyone successfully made a TTF font with a TTF outline that works on ags just fine? I know that the LucasFont worked a while ago, but it doesn't anymore. I haven't tried to do it again, tho. and if you have, what's the way to create the outline font?

Poor mixnmojo, adventuredevelopers, and adventuregamers (and others too!).

Anyway, I'm prepared this year, so I've moved my site to http://netmonkey.cellosoft.com/

I guess if anyone else who's hosted on AD (actually I was hosted by mixnmojo) wants to post any site movings, reply to this thread!

Hey, this is kind of off topic, but AGD 2: How much do you work on a game (eg... King's Quest II VGA) per week? You guys are doing a much better job completing these games than I am. Share teh secret!  :P
#1453
Well, fatman actually installs the whole game in your hard drive. however, I think that in a recent version of AGS Chris added a way to add something to the setup file to make it run the game from the CD... I'm not too sure how it worked nor remember details about it, though.

EVERY PAGE?! I thought it was just one page. although when I decided MonkeyGames site 4, there's almost a banner in every page, and that was out of courtesy. I think I stole the idea from the old SCRAMM page.

I don't think the WHOLE game was 'ripped', from the ride, but sure there's definitely heavy inspiration there. Some puzzles were lifted from situations on the ride. But that's not to detract from the awesome imagination of the MI1/2 team -  they created some brilliant characters, jokes, puzzles all by themself.

I think there's a negative connotation related to "ripping" from other people's work, but what it really is is that ripping stuff it's a tool for creativity. The song was obviously yet another reference to the whole theme park idea, which is apparently all tied to the original secret of Monkey island, or whatever. Furthermore, references rule! :)

It also amazes me that's it's been 10 years since the making of monkey island 1-2, and new references are still popping up.

I e-mailed Dave Grossman (co-designer of DOTT, assintant designer/writer of Monkey Island 1 and 2) and I asked him if the team ever made a visit to Disneyland during the production of the games, and this is what he said:

"The answer is... zero.  The team never went to Disneyland, at least not as a group.  We did talk about making an inspirational trip down there when we were first working on Monkey 1 (in between Errol Flynn movies), but somehow the fact that it was four hundred miles away kept us from following through on that.  It's possible that individuals may have gone there on their own vacations - I didn't, but I have no way of remembering whether anyone else did.

On the other hand, I think most (possibly all) of us had been there at least once during the course of our lives, and Ron, describing the aesthetic he wanted, would often talk about imagining you had stepped off the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and were talking to the people there.  So some of those Disneyland references are undoubtedly deliberate.  I'm sure there are also a few that are entirely coincidental."

So I guess Michael Z. Land may have gone to Disneyland for inspiration... who knows.
#1457
Good grief! the Disneyland references continue! I wonder how many times they went to Disneyland during the making of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2.

Heeeyyy... a lot of people complain about how CMI and EMI miss that monkey island charm and I guess it's because the new teams haven't made enough visits to Disneyland! I just solved LEC's problem for MI5 :P

Wow, this is all so sudden.

Good luck. I hope you can overcome the addiction to AGS. It's pretty potent stuff, you know.

Now, who's going to build the sexual tension on #AGS? And who's going to challenge my pevertedness? I guess I'm going to cry now  :'(

Ok, no crying. but farewell! I hope you return someday to say hello, at least.  :)
