I'm only mildly confused as to what just happened.

Anyway, I have in the past jumped on Fluke for posting worthless shite, but I think I'm beyond that now. Rick makes a good, if not mildly inebriated point. However, I think I will jump on Fluke for something else now:

Posting worthless shite and then leaving it be. And then, only coming back later to say "you guys make me sad, I'm going to become an internet terrorist now."

At least discuss what you have brought up for discussion, man.

As for me: 5'11 and a half friggin' inches tall since 5th grade... And 280 pounds since 8th grade. I once didn't eat for a full month and didn't lose any weight... I'm almost 26 now and still have the same proportions. WTF???

And, just because I want to have a drunken rant too (goes and gets a bottle of Smirnoff that someone left in the fridge at work) SSH, how come you don't type with a cool Scottish accent? And did Rick just say "ghetto nigger?" Is that legal?

You should try Silent Hill 4: The Room. With the exception of Call of Cthulhu, it's the best horror game I've ever played.

I was about to say, it sounded like Krysis was giving the Trogdor instructions...

"You start out with an S, and then another S, and then add a triangle. Then give him fangiddies, and scales, and wings, if he's a wingaling dragon. Then give him one of those beefy arms sticking out his back..."

The sword is awesome, and I agree totally with the whole stained glass approach. The dragon looks like a sock puppet.

No, actually. I don't think the govornment can, could, or should legislate things like that. The govornment can and should, I think, be against abortion, but it has no say in matters that have to do with how a family works. If a woman chooses to be unfaithful to her husband, well, that sucks, and it's wrong: again, she chose to be with him... if she wants to be unfaithful, she needs to just get a divorce. But there is no legislature against it, and I believe that is the way it should be. If a person's choice is not criminal, it needs not be hindered by the govornment.

Of course, that's only partial birth abortion. However, I saw (of all things...) an episode of Star Trek: TNG today that explains this much better than I could... It was about a planet where every person, upon reaching their sixtieth birthday, had to kill themselves. If killing a baby is convenient, why not kill the elderly? Or your annoying little brother? I read a short story once about a little boy whose mother couldn't take care of him any more, and he was aborted at seven years old. Why is that not acceptable? If things continue along these lines, it eventually will be.

I, like Squinky, don't understand why it's a woman's right to choose. It is most definitely NOT her body, it is the baby's. If she doesn't want to carry the baby to full term, I'm sure there are ways to transplant a fetus, but to "terminate" it is murder.

And I think she should have to tell her husband, but not because I'm an ass. I'm just very unforgiving. If you married him, you made a commitment to him, and by not getting a divorce, you are maintaining that commitment. If you don't want that kind of responsibility, don't get married.

I totally understand Kinoko's "perfect world" argument, as my entire life has been nothing but shades of grey. The last time I made the comment that everyone has a say in how their life goes, I received some criticism. But I have worked with people for a very long time. I have seen people live horrible lives and die alone because they made stupid choices, and I've seen society blame it on everything but choices. For god's sake, it isn't McDonald's fault that people are fat bastards and spill burning hot coffee all over themselves. I remember personally telling a girl about a hundred times exactly why she needed to stay away from the guy she was going out with. Then, I tried explaining to her why she shouldn't marry him. Then, I explained why she shouldn't have a baby with him. Then, I had to tell her it was her own damn fault for having the baby and not to kill it because she had been stupid. Then, I had to explain to her why she needed to leave her husband. Then, I explained to her why she needed to do it NOW.

Ã,  Ã, And then I attended her funeral and the funeral of her three month old daughter.

It's all about choices. If you make bad choices, you have to live with them. If you married a man you are not willing to tell about your abortion, it's your own fault.

Nobody's ever rated my game yet, either, but it's been downloaded 445 times as of right now, and it got a good reception in the completed games forum. Rating isn't everything.

Besides, be careful what you wish for. Are you really going to want people who don't like the game to rate it low, and make it so future prospective downloaders no longer want to download it? For all I know, only the people who posted that they liked my game in the completed games forum liked it, and all 445 people who have downloaded it since then have hated it. It's a good thing none of them ever said anything about it, because more people download it every day.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Robbie-29

Yes. Yuggoth is the Lovecraftian name for Pluto, and the Old Ones are hence referred to as "Transyuggothian," or, being from beyond the furthest planet in our solar system. I liked the name, and I wanted to show where my inspiration came from, but I don't think I wanted to make the planet a little lump of ice, so I took some... liberties...

AGS Games in Production / Robbie-29

Service droid ROB-29 comes online one day with an awful headache and a system full of errors. Within an hour, the entire universe will be changed irreperably, and it is up to Robbie to make sure these changes do not continue.

In the distant future, one small service droid will learn what it means to be human.

He will learn what it means to love...

And he will learn the true maning of Evil...

A game made in AGS by Esper, music by Nikolas, and backgrounds by (the as-of-yet unintroduced) Ravean. If anyone would like to help with character sprites, it would be great, but if not, the game will still get made.

Here are a couple early screenies from ROBBIE-29. I actually made these BG's as mock-ups, and used them here since the real ones aren't ready yet. Also note the lack of tinting... It'll happen, it just hadn't yet as of these screenies.

Robbie at the crash site on the planet Yuggoth.

I used to use the official hamster republic role playing game creation engine (ohrrpgce). It's DOS based, but it's pretty good, fully customizable, and it's easier just to make your own sprite- and tilesets than try to find a compatible one and import it. That was back in the day, though. I decided to make horror games instead of fantasy games.

Hmmmm. I heard WoW was for the kiddies.

What about Anarchy Online. It's free on CNet, and it's free to play until January, and possibly beyond. Anyone tried that one?

I only ask because I played Neverwinter Nights online today for the first time and decided to stick with the single player campaign. It really sucks that I can't play the level 25 ranger I've been building. It takes for-fricking-EVER to level in that game...

Here we go. I haven't posted about this one in a month or so, because that's how slowly it's coming. But, since I have it to show, here are a couple early screenies from ROBBIE-29.

Babar, technically, Halloween is ALWAYS a Christian holiday.. it is All Halow's, or All Saint's eve. However, Christian groups get upset because it is based on Samhain, the Celtic pagan celebration of the god of the underworld. However, when my Christian (I'm Christian too, but one of the only "think-for-yourself" Christians that exist) friends get on me for dressing up to celebrate "The Devil's Birthday," I gently remind them that Halloween is actually a minor pagan holiday, and Yule, the celebration that the Catholic church turned into Christmas, is the highest pagan holy day of the year, and in times past (and still among certain cultic groups) requires a human sacrifice, whereas Halloween does not. The only Christian holiday in existance that did not come from pagan bakgrounds is Thanksgiving.

"Squirt One Out?"

Damn, I mentioned something about "one of these days, you'll have a bun in the oven" to my fiancee (who was going through a I-wanna-have-a-baby thing) and she smacked the hell out of me.

I think this: why don't you drop all your other products and write her a song... specifically for her... Name it after her, and then present it to her. You are a composer, for the love of Pete....

While the game was fantstic, the redemption ending wasn't really worth it.

Spoiler
you land on a deserted island and some text scrolls. If I remember correctly, decaying was simply that you had to repeat the events on the ship over and over again, but in redemption you were finally able to break out of the cycle

Now, about the graphics. I'm the opposite of most of you. The character graphic sucked all manner of buttocks, but the backgrounds were fantastic. I'm almost afraid to try to make another game now, after having you guys down those BGs. And I must say, cyberpunkish or not, when you start hallucinating, it gets downright freaky.

I work from 11 PM to 7 AM. I had downloaded this game at work and started playing it when I got home. Although I didn't sleep all day long because I was playing it and enjoying it, when I had to go back to work at 11 pm the next night I had gotten all four endings.

General Discussion / Call of Cthulhu
Sun 30/10/2005 06:49:02
Finally. After four years of being told it was going to be released, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is available for XBox, although not for PC as it was originally intended.

I figured I would tell everyone about this game, because on the whole, no one knows about it. Even the guy at my local EB Games, who knows everything video game related, knew nothing about it.

CoC:DCotE is a role-playing game, an adventure game... But wrapped in the shell of a FPS. There is actually little S'ing involved, since the creatures that roam the dark Lovecraftian realms of CoC can't be harmed by armies, never mind any manner of gun you may collect in the game. What distinguishes the game is that the only reason they used first person was for deeper immersion. Horror just isn't that scary when you aren't the person going through it. There is no target reticule. There is no HUD. You want to know how badly you're hurt? Look down at yourself. You want to know how many bullets are left in your revolver? Open the chamber. You want to get a piece of inventory? Fiddle around in your pockets... (but not too deeply... Don't want to be accused of playing pocket pool)

The other thing that makes the game absolutely fantastic is your ability to go mad. They were thinking they were going to have a problem with this because Nintendo, like the asshats they are, decided to COPYRIGHT sanity systems (not the particular sanity system used in Eternal Darkness... no... Sanity Systems in general. I say Microsoft should copyright the health meter...) but the sanity system in Call of Cthulhu is completely different than anything else. You can hear voices, you can see things that aren't there (as a matter of fact, in the first section of the game, look in all the windows on the first floor of the buildings in the city... You don't need to be crazy to see things then!)... Your character will sometimes start seeing innocent civilians as monsters, and he might even try firing off a few shots that you didn't command him to. As a matter of fact, if things are going really badly for you, put your gun away, because the main character has been known to spontaneously commit suicide...

Based on the story "Shadow Over Innsmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft, Dark Corners of the Earth is definitely worth a look. The graphics are a little dated (since they were supposed to release this game four years ago) but the whole reason I'm even giving this review is because this community generally cares more about story than graphics... But they still are good, even if outdated.

Why has no one mentioned Guild Wars? I only just now got internet connection outside of work (that's right, I spend eight hours every night at work surfing AGS... What do YOU get paid to do...) and have been wanting to play an MMORPG for a while. I heard this one is free, and it looks awesome. I also wanted to play either the Matrix online or City of Heroes/Villains, but Guild Wars seems to be the best choice. Am I wrong, before I go out and spend 50 bucks on it? I might just play Neverwinter Nights online and fuhgeddaboudit.

My friend in NH got me started on DAoC:Catacombs, but I think it sucks all manner of buttock.

Curse you oranges, for using Harry Potter as a reference!!! At least you, unlike alot of other people, understand that Harry Potter uses a lot of real terminology and even historical names. Nicholas Flamel, for instance, is a real alchemist, and the Hand of Glory is an actual occult artifact made from the severed hand of a thief that is supposed to keep other thieves out of your home. Floo powder, on the other hand, is what happens when you freeze dry the contents of your nose.

Arithmancy is, by the way, the art of divination by numbers. Las Naranjas' money is no longer on the line. Instead, he must send it all to me.

EDIT and, Shitar (is that a legal name?): I understand more than anyone, probably, how age should not be a factor in dealing with people. I work with kids alot of the time, and I have seen an eleven year old that would do a better job as president than the one we have! (insert any "but ANY eleven year old would do a better job" jokes here) However, when it comes to political matters, alot of the time, people who are under the age of eighteen have never had any sort of dealings with the govornment at all. All they know about it is what they see on the news and what they see from their parents. So forgive Gil for passing judgement, but it is very possibly a valid judgment.

That leaves me with a problem.... It's kind of working, but the character faces you when he goes down the hill. I can set his walking view all I want, but every time he moves a single pixel in distance he faces you again.

EDIT: In addition, that's only working in one place, for reasons I cannot fathom. In other places, he isn't going down at all. And I also just noticed that my baseline for the hill's walkbehind must not be placed correctly. I've moved it around a bit, but he either comes back out or never goes behind it. Do you have the link to the original topic, I can't find it.

Hambourkers? In the same list as war and politics?

Oh, never mind, hamburgers are actually just as useful to us in America as politics and war.

And it's funny to note that in your list of the top three antiamericanized AGSers, the most antiamerican is an american.

URGENT CONSPIRACY ALERT:

I have discovered something terrible. For those of you who haven't seen him lately, ScummBuddy's avatar caption says "Give Stylish Confetti to Bozo. Wheeee!"

This is obviously an alliterative anagram, and I believe, unfortunately, that I have decoded it.

"Grundislav's Shitty Computer Trashed By Wilma."

So it's true... Ben Jordan 5 never is coming out.
