Hey, I have an idea for "release something" day...

Why don't we put together teams to make production quicker and better? We can have people say "I'll make GUIs for people who are going to release a game on Release Something day," or "I'm taking requests for backgrounds," or "I'll throw out some tunes for anyonew who wants them," all specifically for Release Something day. I know I'm going to try to release a whole game (see my sig) for it, and it would be a great help for me. If we did that, then maybe people who are just going to release screenies or demos or something will have a full game to present at the end of the month...

Just a suggestion ;)

PS I'm not that great at art or music, but I'll proofread (I r gradurated from collidge)and playtest any game, as well as help with anything else anyone might want.

Thanks for the addition, jet. That was a brilliant idea.

If you are not a professional artist... or yea verily, that spectacular of an artist... and aren't going to be using your art in any worthwhile format (ie. if you're just dicking around) you shouldn't buy a Wacom. I got a 6X8 Manhattan graphics tablet on EBay for only 60 bucks, and it works spectacularly for me.

:( Girls like Johnny Depp more than they like real people :(

You know what I thought when I walked out of "Once Upon a Time in Mexico?" I thought...

That was the stupidest movie I've ever seen. I loved it.

And it was all Johnny Depp's fault.

As for the other recect posts here: First, Posh Spice has always needed to be beaten repeatedly with her own ripped-off arms anyways. I think throwing her baby to the fires of Moloch would be totally justifiable as a mercy killing. And for Nicholas Cage and.... Kal-el???Ã,  :o
I heard them making fun of it on the news, but I never actually heard which of the many names for Superman he had actually used of the many they were making fun of him by. What a moron. Even if he could act, he's still a total cretin.

Thanks all. I changed the way the shoulders work, and made the front of his shirt shift left and right as he walks. I'm also almost done with the side walkcycle, but I'm on my work computer right now and can't get it uploaded. And if anyone wants to do an up cycle, that would be great: I don't even know where to begin on that :(

Thanks for the comments, all. I think I'm going to just add in what you (traveler) mentioned by hand, rather than re-rendering.

LJUBI: We don't know why.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm off for the next two days, and I only have internet at work. By the time I get back, I should have completed side and up walkcycles to go along with this, and maybe fixed this one up a bit.

**This part edited out by me for over-harshness**

It's called make your own. It's AGS (Adventure Game Studio) not HOPMYAFGWYSYPBAHASOOT (Have Other People Make You A Friggin' Game While You Sit Your Pasty Buttocks At Home And Sip On Oolong Tea).

This isn't even the right place to ask... **this part was also edited out by me, same reason**

General Discussion / Re: Why? #2

That's the problem. Hair in the ass is a topic for 13 year olds like Flukeblake, or for N/A year olds like yourself. It isn't fun to talk about. It's just crass and nasty. It is funny when, say, someone says something about hair in the ass at just the right moment and everyone laughs and it's all over. But to discuss hair in the ass? To have an entire thread devoted to it? I can imagine two old British gentlemen sitting around having their cup of tea:
Ã,  Ã, "So, old fellow..."
Ã,  Ã, "Yeeeees, how can I help you, lad?"
Ã,  Ã, "Have you considered why men have hairy protuberances in their posterior?"
Ã,  Ã, "Buttock hair? Why good heavens man, no!"
Ã,  Ã, "Yes! I have greatly been considering the hair that is in my own buttocks for quite some time."
Ã,  Ã, "To what conclusion have you come?"
Ã,  Ã, "Men have hair located in their... pardon me... grundles because it is a pain in the ass to clean all the little Klingons out that way."
Ã,  Ã, "Egad, man! Do you know what you're saying?"
Ã,  Ã, "God has a sense of humour?"
Ã,  Ã, "Why, yes! You ought to get on the phone to Faraday at the Royal Academy on the double, old boy!"
Ã,  Ã, "And thus I shall..."

Besides, I'm a frickin' hairy BEAST and I don't have hair IN my ass... What have you been doing, eating fertilizer?

I would say loominous.... that looks like something out of a Final Fantasy game.
However, since I A) don't like bandwagons, and therefore do not jump on them, and B) don't think that could be used as a background in a game, I have to go with krysis.

The original won't work, but I saved as a PNG and it works now. Now for the big dumb question of the century: Is there a way to take care of antialiasing that does not involve sitting there for hours manually picking out all the little spots of discoloration? I know there are probably a hundred and sixty-eight topics on this, but I'm lazy and we're already talking about it.

Critics' Lounge / New Style for background
Sun 02/10/2005 08:28:04
I'm looking at trying to make a new style for my backgrounds in my upcoming horror/mystery game. Some of you might remember ESPER: Town on the Edge of Darkness, which I released about two months ago. I liked it, and it seems a few other people did, too, but I was really not pleased with the graphics. Thus, I have come up with a new style to do my backgrounds in. I was wondering what you guys thought.

First, a 3D render using Caligari Truespace 3.2:

Next, I put a Sharpen filter on it and add black outlines and other details, such as the light (I know the light might not look too good, but I wanted to make that where you find a body)

This is the thread where I posted the character I'm going to be using for these backgrounds.

::hopes no one walks in on him right now::

That was insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was excited about the first Killzone, but that second one makes me want to run toward the neares living thing and kill it. I have never sen such a beautiful or realistic game. and Motor Storm looks so realistic I can't believe that was all in-game! I really like the idea of not having a GUI, and it seems that is a new thing alot of people are doing. four years ago, when they announced the call of Cthulhu game (it STILL hasn't been released!!!) they said they were going to come out with a non-GUI system where you had to actually lokin your pockets to see what you had, look in the chamber of your gun to see how many bullets you have left, and look at your body to see how badly injured you are.

I also like the idea with Condemned... It looks AWESOME that you can interact with any objet in the world and use it to bash someone's head in... That looks keen!!!!

I just watched the Tokyo Game Show this morning, and my good left buttock, was it exciting!!! I have never ever liked Metal Gear since snake's Revenge, where I got so aggravated with one part that I punched a hole in my wall (I then proceeded to lay with my head in the hole and call my mother for help, telling her I fell off the top bunk...) but Metal Gear Solid 4 looks lke it'll be the best thing ever!

Here's the deal: Bookstores don't want to spend money. If you want to do a booksigning and you have a book that is done by a POD, the publisher has the bookstore pay for every single copy, and normally don't have return policies, which means that the bookstore eats the books they didn't sell. What you have going for you is that everything you are doing is out of pocket, which means you don't have to be quite such a bastard about it (although, if YOU don't want to wind up eating the books, you kinda do)... Call a local bookstore (try a smaller private store first. I started out in a small town that had a tiny bookstore that focused on local authors) and try to set up a book signing. Sell your books to them at a discounted price (I'm not sure what publishers sell their books for pre-consumer... you might need to look into this yourself) and promise a refund on any non-sold items. Try at the library too... In which case, you can sell the books yourself and make full profit. Once word of mouth gets going around and i seems that people are buying your books, a bigger bookstore will gladly accept you on the same terms (discounted price, full refund on unsold product)... That is the ONLY way to get into a bookstore.

Amazon, on the other hand, is IMPOSSIBLE for nonindustry people to get into. The only thing to do would be to pay a marketing company to take care of that for you. You MUST have industry connections in order to have a bok put on any of the major online houses.

Hope this was helpful to you.

No... Check it out: I am used to animating w/ Flash. I don't have access to it anymore. In Flash, I had onion skins and could see the last frame I was working on so I could move everything ever so slightly. Now, I can't friggin' animate anymore because I ca't se the last frame I was working on. It's like trying to draw six different pics with your eyes closed and hoping they all come out looking vaguely similar. And then, I have no way of testing them out without running them directly through AGS to see how the end result looks. I was interested to know how other people animate using programs that don't have all the features of Flash.

Hey, I have a problem. My character (check out critic's lounge) is not importing into AGS. It is a 100x150 jpg saved at 32 bit w/alpha and 24 bit. For some reason, on initial attempts to get him imported, nothing shows up. Don't ask me what made me think to do this, but I went into Paint and grabbed the bottom right hand corner and shrunk it, up a couple pixels and left a couple pixels. That makes him import correctly (it has nothing to do with the color of the bottom left pixel: I have transparency set for the top left pixel)... The problem there is that now there are white lines on the edges, and if I don't do it perfectly the animation jumps all over the place.

So my question, I guess, is this:

WTF?

NICE! Farl automatically deserves to win. Even if he just pooped on a tablet and rubbed it around a bit (although I think that might require running a bit of electrical current through the poo) just calling it "John Lennon" makes it deserve to win.

Not to mention the fact that it's a pretty good John Lennon, at that.

Butt zits? Damn, I just lost the complete desire to read this...

Anyway, I figured I'd stop by and say that I know of a solution that might be much better, although in the end, it will cost more to then end consumer (it costs you nothing)... www.publishamerica.com

Now like I said in my post about how to get published, these guys suck, and everyone, including myself, hates them. however, if you are planning on selling the book yourself, this is premium. They do everything, including make it available on Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobles, they give it an ISBN and copyright info, etc... The only problem is, being a POD, subsidy publisher (they really aren't but bookstores aren't very discerning in this matter) most bookstores will say "You suck, get out of here" when you approach them about a booksigning or something. However, if you plan to fully self-market the book and sell it on your website, this might be the answer.
