YEAH!  THE WIZARD COMES AND FREEZES THE DUDE.  I always wanted to play that!    Good call!

(was it a text parser?)

With the obvious exception of Pirates of the Caribbean.... no?

I would bank on there being references in independent films that will never see the light of day.   Surely *some* character in film history has been compared to Leisure Suit Larry.

Ill try to prune it down so its not so massive, like keep it to things that the player will really need. I will be used mostly for  those who arent in law enforcement and would like to look up things like "cop  talk" slang, various penal/traffic codes, radio codes, etc...

As long as the file is small include the PDF with the game.   But I would never read through an ingame booklet that was more than like 10 pages.    Unless its involved in a puzzle, like Plato's Manuscript in Fate of Atlantis.  But see the player could always misunderstand and THINK that there's critical information buried in those 110 pages.

the stance is a bit feminine (not sure if that's on purpose or not)

I was curious how to phrase this.  I made a similar observation but what struck me is that the stance is "stiff" rather than "loose".    When he walks make sure you give him flowing loose movement.

This is the obvious winner... again, by Sony.

Color coordinated for her pleasure!

Very promising contest.

I think they would accept 500 Billion dollars.    So in that sense you're wrong.

But in every other sense you are correct.  They want to protect their product.

Vexxice, its hard to give you "blanket" advice covering the entire concept of whether to shade or not to shade.   There has to be some desire from you, some inkling that tells us what you're going for.

From these two sprites alone, it would be very hard for anyone to give you proper advice.

Suggestions:

1.)  Write a paragraph describing your game and the approach to the artwork you're taking.   Just list off some thoughts and ideas you've had.  If any games influenced this one, please name them.

2.)  Show us a sample of a background image.   Perhaps integrate the sprite into the background.   And *maybe* give us your own thoughts how everything is working out.

Originality has its rewards.

People are giving you some very good advice here.

They'll want money.   So give them money I guess.

What if instead of all those angles you used more rounded edges and used a striped snake pattern like this?

I was getting all confused over the storylines, and it turned out to be SOMI (special edition...2?) or something. I'm still confused. But I kept confusing storyline from 2 with 1.

Mods, if you continue to feel confused I found this great website that briefly explains what happens in both games:

http://tinyurl.com/allthings1

It wraps everything up in a nice big bow and never repeats itself.

I wanted to make it slightly less apparent - to some extent it's a snake and to some just a circular pattern.

Well I don't know about that.   If you want a more subtle snake I would 1.)  remove its eyes.   2.)   move the snake's tongue offcenter and taper it towards his body.   It's quite obviously a snake on first view.

+1 for referencing Vertigo.

Never anything so sad as these words:  (This post is missing and can not be restored)

Thanks Dual!    Those took me back.   Colossal mentions a painting program he coded and I remember the day he coded it!   It was awesome and he kept telling me how simple it was to do.

BTW, I made a huge mistake and revisited the 76 page "Secret of Monkey Island" thread.  Just now.    Phew.

Let me know if you find one that 2ma2 won.   :)

EDIT:    Well that was easy

I don't remember them back then.  There was MAGS back then for sure.   Possibly Sprite Jam?

memory is fuzzy but I'm with Gilbert.  There's no EZBoard Background Blitz to be found.

EDIT:   Dual, really?

General Discussion / Re: AI for AGS

Hahah SSH.

I think you can create the "illusion" of AI dialog.  But only one or two branches of random variables could be explored with any realistic outcome.

For instance, you could create random strings representing an emotion the NPC feels.   And you can create dynamic reactions to those random strings.   But after that you're fucked.   The variables become exponential.

Of course you're probably talking about another kind of AI.

adm:  use "search".  I'm sure there's tons of discussions on this.

I think this has a lot to do with the detail oriented aspect of adventure games.

You can remember more about shoot em up games because the objectives are so repetitive.   Bang bang bang.   Talk.  Bang bang bang.

I tried to translate but I give up.  It's impossible to translate this.

Yes, I understand you want advice on making AI for AGS.  That's all I can figure out.   Please try again, perhaps with another website or program.

(Я не могу перевести ваши слова. Да, я понимаю что вы хочет консультацию о AI в ваших играх. Я не могу понять чего вы сказали. Пожалуйста пробуйте снова с другим вебсайтом или программируйте.)
