Eager, agreed. Ã, I recently tried to interview Richard Dreyfuss but that ass face does Ã, not consider himself an actor anymore. Ã,  Ã, He thinks he's a "politcal activist" and "ethical leader".

He turned us down for interview because he was "too old" and the interview he did give to this other show he denied to answer any questions based on his acting career. Ã,  He's taught a semester at Oxford and suddenly he's too good to talk about acting and actors. Ã, He gave an hour and a half speech on bringing civics back into classrooms, and about parents being bad role models, and about Bush being impeached. Ã,

I wouldn't have gotten so pissed off except, here's a guy who has led a pretty good career.Ã,  Ã, I might consider myself to be following in his footsteps. Ã, But nowadays he smirks a shitty smirk when acting comes up like he's too good for it. Ã, Like acting is clown business. Ã,  BUT the only reason anyone would ever listen to his goddamn opinion is that, "ooh look its the guy from Jaws!" or "hey its Doctor Leo Marvin!" Ã,  or "ooh, the guy Darryl Hammond impersonates!"

Richard Dreyfuss left a spoiling bologna taste in my mouth.

Really, there are enough problems in the world without some raving, washed-up TV star trying to make commentary on society. Who cares what he says?

Eager,Ã,  I've always felt that celebrities have just as much right to share their opinion as anybody else.Ã,  Ã, When a doctor makes an appearance on a discovery channel documentary, well certainly that opinion is grounded in the person's specialty and he should state his opinion, for instance on the danger of smoking cigarettes.

Likewise, any average joe pulled aside at a rally has every right to state his opinion for the local news.Ã,  Ã, So to generalize celebreties as "cute little pretty things who should only speak when directed to do so"Ã,  always seemed a little naive and a bit neglectful of their first amendment rights.

I totally understand on a case by case situation when Mel Gibson or Tom Cruise goes too far for public opinion.Ã,  Ã, But its not like actors should be hearded into a quarantined room and instructed not to speak their own social or political beliefs.Ã,  After all, if the advertising world is willing to pay celebreties millions of dollars for endorsements- that's a sure signal that someone believes celebrities have sway on the american people.

And in cases like Michael Jordan or Johnny Depp- you must admit that the celebrity earned their public standing.

If you happen to be a celebrity (even low level garbage like Kathy Griffith or Andy Dick)Ã,  Ã, you injured me in ways that I cannot possibly express as a white man!Ã,  Ã,  That's why I've had a surgical epidural replacement ( first I had to have brain surgery to think like a black man )Ã,  & now I'm prepared to sue the pants off your white ass!

Sure, and please ignore everyone else who made such accusations....

Or dig up arbitrary threads that they posted.

We're not about to change the nature of human beings on this internet forum.

So please no further on this personal level.  No more accusations for now.   Unity!

ah, nevermind.....   what's there left to be said?

Totally checking out the new[?] stuff. thanks again eric!

On a side note, I've never seen an artist with so many songs in movies.Ã,  Ã, Well besides the obvious artists.Ã,  But I saw this one Enron documentary with an almost exclusive Waits soundtrack.Ã,  Ã, "The Smartest Guys in the Room"Ã,  if I recall correctly, named after book by the same title.

Anyways, they play "what's he building in there?" as like a theme song for Jeff Skilling and Kenneth Lay.Ã,  Ã, Ah, it made me so giddy.

The other great song choice that comes to mind was opening the film "Things to do in Denver while you're dead" with "Jockey Full of Bourbon."

No, no- let me clarify.

I think the same as you.Ã,  Ã, I meant People reacting to the nature of the book.

They don't have to read it to know exactly what it says!

Mac, I think you'll enjoy most of his stuff.   Rain Dogs is certainly the place to go first.   His early albums are his lounge singing work (Blue Valentine, Closing Time)  which I have difficulty connecting to.   But I certainly appreciate the period... just not as much as say early Bob Dylan.   Waits completely twisted into a whiskey breathed musical genius.  I love the experimental instruments and the stories in his songs. (Frank's Wild Years, Rain Dogs, Alice, Blood Money)

just download everything right now.

Heck, you know I think [eric] recommended that song to me. Ã,  We've both had love affairs with waits and nick cave.

Frank's Wild Years is not bad at all. Ã,  Some of his albums don't even try to juggle upbeat or good humored songs. Ã,  Like Blood Money. Ã,  I really enjoymany of those songs but can't listen to it if I'm at all depressed. Ã,  I especially love Rain Dogs.

And yours, a fine a lsiting of websites which no longer exist!

Thanks man, I haven't checked the waits in a while. Ã, I bet he's produced a dozen new albums.

Helm, I don't even know where that quote came from becuase of the massive, ridiculous amount of referencing in this thread.

I do know that some similar quotes were made and a few individuals piped in with rhetoric such as "people do not indeed have faster minds, or if they did they were no better, because now their attention spans are so low etc."

Its such a weird vibe I get from people reacting to this book.   I am glad I brought up my enthusiasm for the concept on an internet forum rather than in a party or a classroom.  I wouldn't have been prepared for such immediate presumptions and criticisms.

Does anybody remember that other Jenna Bush story?

While WITH secret service, Jenna walked into Chuy's (tex-mex restuarant)  and presented a fake ID to get alcohol.Ã,  Ã, Of course she got busted, of course it was hilarious.Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Did the secret service fail her then?  More likely her brain did.

QuoteBut the episode when he had a bunch of Asians sleeping in a dresser, and they couldn't get out. Well that is racist.

"stereotyping"

There's a difference between racism and stereotyping.   A lot of individuals stereotype because they are racist, but one word is not synonymous with the other.   In comedy, stereotyping is usually encouraged.
#695
If you say black people are the only people who have ever done that, yes, that would be racist.

These guys are playing the race card, certainly.Ã,  But nothing's unusual about this case, people try to feed off famous people all the time.Ã, Ã,  Michael Richards seems a little washed up and pathetic to go after.Ã,  Maybe he owns a piece of "Seinfeld"?Ã,  Ã,  I doubt that.

From the imdb message boards.Ã,  Can't be certain this is an honest account, but here goes:

QuoteI WAS THERE....
He tried to brush it off, but the place isnt that big to begin with, and they kept going and going and after every single jokes whether it was funny or not the hecklers were loud to the point where you could hear them almost as loud as you could here him. Also I have been to many shows with many hecklers and these guys were literally interrupting the show.

And here's what the hecklers said on the Today Show
http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=1&pmmsid=1775780

At the end of the clip some dumb white woman reports her opinion that Kramer should offer these guys money.Ã,  That is the stupidest damn thing I have ever heard.Ã,  Ã,  I guess he could settle with them if they choose to sue.Ã,  Ã, But offer them money for damages?Ã,  Ã, Absurd.

the only thing i can think of is that the hyphen takes all the hipness out of a name like Dagger Fish.Ã,  Its aÃ,  little too corporate.  Or like the law firm of Dagger and Fish.

There are some interesting movies that will never air on TV.   I watched one called "Drum" that was ridiculous.   Warren Oates plays a plantation owner who loses control of his home to his slaves.   It's SUCH a ridiculous movie Warren throws the word "nigger" every which way, all the while molesting every big busted woman on the farm.   It was one of those movies played at midnight in a local theater, and the crowd was laughing practically all the way through.   There's tons of racism in the movie but the argument is always present, so the movie isnt much at fault.

Birth of a Nation is extremely racist, but its highly respected in film schools.   It came up in every film calss I took at UT Austin.

Domino, watch the response to the hecklers again and tell me where the lightheartedness, or even the sarcasm is.Ã,  Ã, Its not there.Ã,  If anything, he's channelling in an alter ego.Ã,  Ã, A racist one.Ã,  Ã,

Did you watch the tape?Ã,  He leaves the stage in anger as the audience is evacuating.Ã,  Ã,  No humor, no comedy.Ã,  Ã, Just a man with no tact.Ã,  Ã, I forgive him to but you're statement about comedy is misguided.Ã,  Ã, the context of his words are in anger, not jest.

The audience didn't have any way to interpret that incident as entertainment.  Likewise a man yelling "death to whitey!" with hate in his eyes would have gotten a similar response.

I don't really understand the Jesse Jackson issue, either. Ã, From what I understand Jesse Jackson expresses that what can be done legally for black people HAS been done legally, and that it's now up to the individual to change their own lives.

Again, if a poor black person screams "racism" like the boy who cried wolf - that is further submitting to defeat. Ã,  So I don't feel at all threatened or bothered by that. Ã,  That person has made a poor personal choice.

I do sympathize with you as individuals any time you have to bargain with a situation like that.  Where someone makes a racism claim againt you in your business or personal life.    But there's nothing as a society we can do to hush the crutch problem.  Sadly, it's an individual problem just the same.
