OK, just saw a midnight screening at the coolest movie theater in the world (undisputed), the Alamo Drafthouse.

Mickey Rourke is the best you could ever ask for.

Ebert gave this movie 4 stars and I totally see why.  There is just so much style and so many characters to watch with bedazzle.  As for the story and the performances, well they're not the strongest.  But the package is good.

And according to numerous friends, the movie is dead on accurate to the source material.

General Discussion / Sharing games with kids
Fri 25/03/2005 10:56:12
It's been a good long while since I made a thoughtful adventure game related post.

But I was just remembering this past summer when I let my boss's 7 year old son help me with the King's Quest remake.  He loved it, he's such a smart kid.  He would tell me "try the feather with the snake!" really excitedly and got really really excited when we figured out puzzles and saw new animations.

Has anyone else found adventure games really useful when spending time with kids?  I've babysat a few times and I'm convinced playing Monkey Island with young people is a lot more entertaining than watching Harry Potter for the fourteenth time.

They have such a fresh perspective, and watching them reminds me of my own childhood.

Maybe there is a young child in your life who you have not thought to share adventure games with?  Try today, and tell us how the kid reacts, if he likes it or if he finds it boring.

I know I sound like a televangelist.

duzz,

I'm having real trouble finding the actual download.  The "download" button leads me to a page with descriptions and a zip for the source code.

Can you paste the actual url somewhere so's a hillbilly like me can find it?

No the zombie movie is the feature length film that my short plays with.

Mine is about cannibalism and female youth.

Sure, that other movie is one to look forward to, but look at it like this:

What advantage does voting for Oldboy hold? That it could possibly be reviewed by Aint It Cool News?   Trust me it has, or will in the near future.

"The Roost" or "Dos Blokes"  needs all the help it can get during the film festival in order to start a snowball effect to show the films to more and more people.

You want to know about the Roost? its about 4 friends who experiece car trouble near a farm.  They check out an old barn and discover a horde of ravenous, zombie inducing bats.   The rest is obvious.

Cool, we got a packed house at the screening tonight.

I haven't decided if this makes my film fortunate or not - but "The Roost" was actually not that popular of a film.  I could tell by the kinds of "Q & A" questions:

"Why did everyone die?"
"Why bats?"
"Uh, was that really film.. or just mini-dv?"

Some aspects were really impressive, like the sound design and the computer generated bats.

BUT my movie "Dos Blokes" killed.  People laughed their asses off for a glorious 4 minutes.   It was great.  Thanks for voting everyone, I'll share the short with you one day.  Its best viewed with a crowd.

I hope that people relay to their friends that a four minute short was more outstanding than an 80 minute feature.

I just had a good night's sleep.  Impressed to see that "The Roost" stayed up there through the night.

Thanks for the kind words, auhsor.  I was in Knoxville Tennessee with limited internet for several months.  My student org's website is now keeping me pretty busy.

This is a poll.

http://www.aintitcool.com/poll.cgi?pollid=266

My film is playing at a film festival with a movie called "The Roost."

This online poll will determine which films Aint It Cool News will review.  Needless to say, I want them to review "The Roost" so they see my short film.

If you could click on that link and choose The Roost, you will be doing me a favor beyond the clouds of Olympus.

Right now I am tired.  I saw Todd Solondz new movie today.  If anyone is a fan I'd love to talk about it tomorrow.

Again, "The Roost" :

maybe I'm going through some sort of genesis, but there are certain Big Dumb Movies that I love.  X Men 2, namely, reintroduced my love for mainstream cinema.

Watching the audience react to explosive moments or delivery of dialogue - that screening of X Men 2 is when I slowly descended back to earth after having been a film snob.

Whatever you watch its always images and its always story. That's all there is, and Sin City has my faith.

nothing to talk about, really.

You haven't convinced me Sin City will be a bad movie yet.

There have only been two trailers.

The first clip, which eric commented on long ago, was leaked from one of the dubbing houses.  A guy lost his job over it but I think the leak unintentionally served to hype people up.

This last trailer actually gives me an idea of the story, and for that I'm grateful.  I will watch this one. It looks good, and I know the visual effects coordinator - a stand up guy- so atleast it will be pretty.

those bitches.

In my opinion, you're better off with Yahoo or Gmail.  For those of you who have used Hotmail for years and have constantly deleted emails to maintain your lofty 2mbs of storage- Rejoice.

General Discussion / Won a Contest
Mon 08/11/2004 09:48:47
Hey, read up www.bloodshots.org

Two weeks ago, I competed in the 48 hour filmmaking challenge.Ã,  Jack McWilliams and myself produced the film which ultimately won the award in Austin.

Then our film competed against films made in Vancouver.Ã,  Robert Rodriguez, creator of El Mariachi, watched the nominated movies and selected mine for the grandÃ,  prize.Ã,  They announced the winners on Thursday.

Here's the movie. (help us save bandwidth by right clicking, and selecting 'save as')

It's called "Dos Blokes" and it has plenty of gore. In fact, don't watch it if you're disturbed by blood, lawn care, or australian teenage self-esteem issues.

P.S.- LGM's movie blows.

General Discussion / Re: Episode III Trailer

This trailer looked like a Something Awful regular just edited and photoshopped pre-existing footage.

Honestly, I'm not pumped up about Darth Vader at all

I'm not hopeful that George Lucas will bring one shed of decency back to the series.Ã,  Ã, All hope is lost, give in to the dark side.

Star Wars died with Empire.

Jesse's been dead for several days
Odd that he enjoyed Isaac Hayes
For here lies his grave so frigid
Hey man, can you dig it?

I don't know what it is but 6 Day Assassin gets like 300 a week [once it got 1300+ one week] and I haven't advertised that game in the sligthest, I don't know what it is.

It's amazing how inticing the phrase "Meow, baaaaby!" is to adventure gamers.

That's where Ron Gilbert was lacking with his version of MI3.
