Hints & Tips / RLBAT tree with time cord
Sun 21/12/2003 03:29:52
Am I missing something? I have no clue what to do next...

Spoiler
I'm at the tree with the time cord and I have matches, coals, tracker fish/pants, mustash coal, communist manifesto, umbrella, wakeling, and note. I've tried using the matches on the tree but it just tells me i need something to make a fire.

I was bored one day, and wondering how CJ got his name, i looked it up and wondered how many people have actually seen the pumamman movie.

I find it hilarious that the director(s) meant it to be taken seriously.

Tony Farms gets thrown out of a building by an aztec guy and survives, earning a super belt that gives him powers of flight, strength, and jumping around like an idiot - along with a brown shirt and a cape that helps him fly by wiggling his arms and legs madly in all directions. LOL!!! I'm gonna crap my pants!
Then theyre off to fight some super villain in shiny clothes who plans to dominate the world through controlling the minds of all the world's leaders. This he does by slapping together papier mache models of their heads and staring at them (the models or the real heads; either seems to work) intently from behind Plexiglas.

They even had pumaman and aztec guy action figures! holy moly!  :o I'm going to pee on myself.

I'm now going to rent this movie. Cj, that made my night.

Critics' Lounge / a lonely insignificant alien
Thu 02/10/2003 07:29:49

:-\ He is always getting picked on by mean people and now his only friend is dying from an epidemic ravaging the countryside.

Main character for a very small game (sidetracking from my main game for a bit) with a quest for a cure.

Is the theme too cliche? Does he look too dorky?

* EDIT *

I guess if he isn't dorky then he wouldn't be lonely. So he's dorky looking.

Advanced Technical Forum / Unhandled Event
Mon 22/09/2003 02:19:09
For the life of me, I cannot find any documentation regarding how to create an unhandled_event global script. ???

It says I don't have one and to consult the manual for creating one.
Where can I find any more details other than the one under Text script event reference in unhandled_event in the manual?

Can someone help me with an example?

Critics' Lounge / simple gui
Thu 18/09/2003 07:43:09
Here's a simple GUI I'm testing, even though it has some really ugly graphics right now.

actions in upper left, inventory in middle, load/save/exit on right. mouseover text on bottom.

right click walks character, blinking circle appears on floor at walking destination, which disappears when player gets there.

I will make a GUI template of it after MAGS if people think its worth downloading.

how do i set it so the player cannot click through a speech? or set a length of time before it goes away... can't seem to locate it in manual sorry.

option-off-forever still occurs even after changing the script to option-off (with the -forever switch)

dialog script:

// dialog script file
@S  // dialog startup entry point
bruiser: "Don't bother me, punk."
return
@1  // ask question
bruiser: "This better be important."
option-on 2
option-off 1
option-off 7
return
@2  // looking for someone
bruiser: "Really? And who the heck is that?"
option-on 3
option-off 2
return
@3  // explain
bruiser: "Yeah? And why should I tell you?"
bruiser: "What's in it for me?"
option-on 4
option-off 3
return
@4  // what can i give you
bruiser: "Well, I could use some tickets for the big game..."
option-on 5
option-on 6
option-off 4
return

@5  // dont have it
bruiser: "Then quit wasting my time until you got something for me!"
option-on 6
option-on 7
option-off 1
option-off 2
option-off 3
option-off 4
option-off 5
stop
@6  // what is it again?
bruiser: "Get me my game tickets, bub, then we'll talk."
stop
@7  // bye
option-on 1
option-off 2
option-off 3
option-off 4
option-off 5
stop
@8  // option 8
return

Here's what happened:

I turned off a dialog option 2 forever.
tested game.
didn't like it.
quit game.
removed the -forever from the script.
Saved
tested game again.
it was still gone... the option 2 in the dialog still did not appear even though i corrected script and took out -forever and i used option-on.
You are not given the option to click it as a dialog, it is just atuomatically spoken.
That's after restaring the game from the point of the dialog before the now deleted option-off-forever is called.

please help.

How do you move a character to different room?
Not the player character but just another character.
Or is there a workaround that can acheive the same effect? Thanks!
#11
script as follows:

MoveCharacterBlocking(EGO,259,195,0);
FaceCharacter(EGO,STARFISH);
DisplaySpeech(STARFISH, "* snort snort *");

What am I doing wrong?

I'm running 640 x 400, 256 color backgrounds and character views. Region light level set to 200. When the player walks into the lighted region, he's still the same shade.

Are rooms that loop (horizontally or vertically) implemented or are they going to be in the future?

Good for outerspace or sky or clouds or railroad tracks...

Thanks!

Hi folks,

Evilspacefart here. Free background(s) and character sprites. Not quite as cool looking as insta-game, but still free graphics.

http://www.geocities.com/evilspacefart/free.html

Right click on the pictures and save as bmp.

The page will be updated whenever I make something I won't personally use in a game.

Please reply if you have other freebies to give to the community.
