It's definitely a niche market.  I think you can probably only have a few sites dedicated to it.  I very much like AGH.  Totally satisfied with it.  This site is kind of the defacto developer site.  I'm satisfied.  I visited AG about 6 months ago and decided I wouldn't go back.

I was looking for very low key, background ambient.  Didn't notice anything.

I'll check that out. Thanks.

I can program but I'm a beginner in AGS.  I would like to set up part of a puzzle where a padlock sprite can be rotated left or right maybe even one frame at a time.  The frame rotations would be done in an art program, so the sprite would have 39 frames.  I know AGS can rotate also, but it sounds kind of complicated.  Anyway, any thoughts on the simplest way to do it would be appreciated or just pointing me in the right direction.

No matter who gets in there, they balloon the deficit and tell everyone that debt doesn't matter.  I didn't bother voting last time.  One of them had millions of people crossing the border illegally and basically laughing about it, the other sends them to prison camps without due process.  None of them care about the debt.  Moody's downgraded us finally, the last agency to do it.  The interest on the debt is higher than the defense budget.  House prices seem to double every 5 years.  Social Security is collapsing.  I would think people in their twenties would care about it, but they really don't.  The best you can do is prepare for major recession because it's way too late to stop it.  Trump will be out in 3 years and it will be some other nonsense while debts keep piling up or half the country will be in soup lines.

OK, that worked.  Also, when you click on roger with the look on the BASS interface, he says he's looking good in a box about middle of screen.  I couldn't find a gui for that.  How would I move it?

So, I've been modifying the Roger base game with a different background size (640 x 360) and different sprite sizes.  On the base game, the text is at the bottom of the screen when the cursor goes over a hotspot.  On my game, it's up quite a bit and to the left.  I did a search for hotspot text but couldn't find anything that applied or missed it, or just didn't understand it. I changed the resolution setting in general to 640x360. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I did all that but I think it needs more frames.  I am going to actually add frames to the animation.  The down looks ok because it's 640 x 360, so the frames don't stutter when the character walk looks right, but I can't get the left/right to not stutter when the walk looks right because it is moving too far, unless it's just the long size of the pixel, but I'm pretty sure I can make it look a little better if it has a few more frames in the sideways animation.  Anyway, I want to experiment so it looks the best.  Thanks for the comment.

OK, I figured out how to do that by right clicking in the sprite folder and choosing add to view.   Sorry about that.

I'm experimenting with a character walking on a 640 x 360 background by replacing the roger view with my own character which is quite a bit larger.  Using 8 frames the character moves too far and looks stuttering so I am trying to add duplicate frames in the view of each frame to smooth it out.  I can then shorten the pause rate between frames.  But I can't figure out how to add an extra frame of each sprite.  It just has a selection to add them all.  If I hit create new frame it makes a copy of the next frame in the sprite loop and it's at the end of the view.  I could do it in an art program and reload them in the sprite folder but I thought I might be missing something.  Just getting started.  It's mainly the size of the character, because it's bigger.

I learn new software.  AGS right now, and Krita.  Watch a movie.

I just wonder who is the person that finds a background and types an inspirational message on it so everyone else can just click share with your friends.  The unsung hallmark heroes of the internet.

Quote from: lapsking on Thu 02/01/2025 18:54:03Anyway, they made their rating based on the length of the game (really?) or whatever, I'm free to have to express my shock. Maybe I don't have a clue what I'm making, and the crap that I made to learn how AGS works is as valuable as something I put more than two years of my life in it.
It's just a different thing, like comparing a comic strip to a comic book.  You can have a great comic strip and a great comic book, but you can't really compare the rating and say the comic strip should get more stars because it took longer and has more depth.  You have to compare it to other games of about the same length.  And it's always going to be subjective.  It's just to help decide which game to download.  It's like critic ratings on a movie.  They are kind of all over but tend to be higher in a better game.  We have individual comments and the panel rating, plus we can look at the artwork on a few scenes.  Works for me.

Not knowing anything about your games, I would guess that the one that took 20 days or whatever was listed as a short game and the other listed as medium or long.  I look at those things and don't expect a short game to necessarily compete to a long game in terms of depth of story, etc.  I think the ratings are just does the game work.  Does it keep a person interested to the end.

Beautiful artwork!

Hi everyone.  I've been out of adventure making for a while.  I tried learning AGS quite a few years ago but didn't finish up.  The truth is, most of the great indy games get made with AGS.  There are so many games to play here that are really good.
Anyway, I'm getting started again going through the tutorial and doing some artwork.  The program I'm the most impressed with is Krita.  Part of it is because I'm familiar with it.  I was wondering what others are using.  I'm sure this has been posted before, but I wanted to see what current developers are using.  Hopefully it's not worn out and I don't get scolded or anything.

I like turn based rpgs.  The graphics look good.

The debt will continue to increase at a crazy rate.  The tariffs won't go through.  They'll stop a few more from crossing the Mexican border.  Inflation will continue to increase.  Nothing will change on abortion.  It's already up to the states and that's where it will stay.  I didn't bother voting and I don't care who won because we are becoming like Greece and nothing is going to stop it.  Next year it will be even harder to buy groceries.  There will be fewer jobs.  Doesn't matter which one is in charge.

Quote"Commercial" stuff that still tries to ape games of the past end up really sucking for me- see Daedalic's entire catalogue (especially including the Deponia games).
I don't see a problem with their style, it's more their substance.  I played one of their games which was not too bad, but most of them don't interest me.  If a game company is successful, that speaks for itself.  They found a market.  I think Telltale going under speaks more about what doesn't work.  They did OK for a while, but went too many times to the well.  They tried to branch out, but it was still the same style.  Then they got stuck in the Walking Dead and died.

I only watched part of the vid, but I think point and click are something like 2d platform games.  They are going to pretty much be around forever.  I play a pixel art platformer on my tablet and enjoy it.   Point and click adventures have a lot more room for diversity because they are story heavy.  They won't go away and they won't be the latest thing.  That's the nice thing about modern gaming.  We have so many options.  Steam is starting to remind me of what they used to say about cable.  500 channels and nothing is on.  When adventures pull you into a story, something magic happens.  It doesn't matter if the characters are pixel art or 3d.  It's not reading a story.  It's not a visual novel.  Having different paths you can choose has never worked for my own experience.  Maybe for someone else.  For me, it's just a good mix of story and puzzles.
