I edited the black outlines, and you're right: It looks better now.
About the grass, I like the soft light green colour. It makes it look kind of dry and crisp, which it's supposed to.
I added more distinct shadow to the houses as well.

I agree that the path looks kind of flat, but I'm not sure how to give it depth. I tried removing the outline, but it didn't work well. Any suggestions?

I use photoshop 7. It's great!

Another background for the game:

Hi. I just finished making this background for the next part of the game. It's a small seaside village. What do you think?

Yes, I too liked the original better! The edit's too dark.

I've thought about this for some time now while trying to paint walkbehinds in the editor. A zoom-tool would've been REAL nice for all of us with high-resolution screens. Is that on your to-do-list, Chris?

PS. I know you can import a mask instead, but it's often messier than just painting in the editor.

I got a message from Queen Kara that I found so interesting I just have to share it:

Quote
Will Ben be treated nicer in part 2 and will there be a choice of who to play as?
I'm sorry but I didn't enjoy part 1 very much ,
although I know that you did it to show why racism is wrong and stupid.
I love the art and all , I just couldn't get into the story and I
don't like Frank very much , even though he seems to care to a certain extent ,
he did an awful thing to Ben and they're supposed to be friends...
I know games don't always have to be nice ,  but it would be cool if there was a nicer version of the story.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't like part 1 of the game, Kara, but I can understand why you didn't like Frank's behaviour towards Ben. They're friends and I agree that it was an awful thing to do to ones friend. What I meant by putting it in the story was to make Frank more human. He's not supposed to be someone that's a perfect guy with high moral and a hero's feeling for ethics! He's just an ordinary kid that does bad things to friends, take advantage of strangers and so on. It's only when it comes to BIG moral questions that Frank shows his good sides (I'm talking about saving his friends when they're in danger, and standing up against racism).

This is of course what separates Frank from his enemies, and what will ultimately make him a hero. He's not a hero yet, though. He's just a guy who managed to save his, and his friends' hides. But I can reveal that, later on, his good sides will grow and the bad sides revert. So maybe now you can more appreciate what I'm trying to do with the game. The whole story hasn't been told yet and hopefully it'll all come together nicely in the end.

What do you all think?
Do you like Frank or dispise him?
Does an adventuregame-hero always have to be the perfect human-being?

QuoteI'm having a pretty bad spell with my GF so ill try to get back to work on it as soon as i can.

Do you mean GF as in Guardian Force (from FFVIII)? If so, then you rock! :)

So where is the good stuff? ;) It's saturday now, you know.
#389
Cool! But that's not what you're supposed to do in this game (thankfully, or I'd get a bunch of lawyers after me;) ).
#390
Funny. I've never played Hitman! :)
#391
A really beautiful background. :) It could be a bit lighter, though.

I think I've seen that sky background somewhere before. Maybe in the critics forum? Have you been stea...borrowing? ;) j/k but I think it's a bit different from your other style.... it's something about it that doesn't fit if you know what I mean. Parhaps its the sky gradient...and the colour of it. Yes thats it I think it shuold be more blue in it.

Other than that everything looks really really great.

Well, I've certainly not been stealing anything! I got the inspiration for the cloudstyle from Monkey Island 3 (and 4). I really like the whipped cream look of it! I'm glad you like the rest, though.

I've released a new version of part 1. Now you can use anti-aliasing if you want to. I had disabled that before. Why? I've got no clue.

download it at my homepage or in the full length game- page.

Here's a new fresh screenshot, just out of the ovens!

So what do you think? I'm quite pleased with it myself. :)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the game so much! :) I've already started working on the next part (look in the Games in Production Forum).

QuoteBut a walkthru made by its author is always a must, I'm sure!
Ok, maybe I should make a walkthrough. It's just that it takes time and I'd rather put that time on the next game. But maybe I will do it.

Your walkthrough is great, though. So I won't have to rush it! ;)

It all looks so great! I wish I could do something nearly as good!  :-\

I didn't know you'd done a walkthrough, Primus! I was thinking of doing one myself but you spared me the work. Thanks!

PS. I put a link to your walkthrough on my homepage. Hope it's OK?

Hopefullt not as long since I can reuse a lot of characteranimation, most importantly the
animations for Frank. The backgrounds doesn't take that long  to make (I've almost
completed the third one now, and sketched two more on paper) so it's mostly the animation
that takes time. Perhaps the game'll be finished at the end of summer. I can't really say for
sure though as I've just started and might run into some problems on the way.

Spoiler
You have to investigate the office, otherwise Frank has no reason to leave. I.e get into the office. The door is locked but there might be another way inside
