Thanks to the people who've played and enjoyed Frank the Farmhand part 1!

In Part 2:

The story's 100% done and so's the puzzles.
I work towards a release at the end of the summer.

It'll consist of 20 playable rooms (and some cutscene-rooms of course) and 10
new characters (not counting the ones from part 1, eg. Frank, the professor,
Sam n Max and Ben which will also be in this part.)

Here's the backgroundart for two of the rooms:

Further down's some more screenshots.

To anony4434:

You're right! That's a bug. I'll fix it right away. Thanks a lot for telling me.

foz:
QuoteI was surpised you did the intro using FLICs which racked up about 2mb of the overrall file size......I think you could have done the same intro with abit of scripting.....and saved most of the 2 Mb...

This is something I considered for a long time. Should I just script it or should I use flic? In the end I used flics for most of the scenes because it just looked better. I scripted some of them but it just didn't look right. But if you look closely at the closeup of when Frank is driving the car you'll see that it's actually a scripted scene and not a flic. I did that because that particular scene was about 2 megs as a flic (have no clue to why, though) and maybe 100K as a script.

Mr Colossal
Quoteam i forgetting something about AGS or is there no antialiasing of the sprites with it checked in winsetup?
No, you're not forgetting anything. I looked in my script and saw that I had game.disable_antialiasing=1 in my game_start script. At this time I don't know why I put it there but I'll look into it. I mean, people should be able to have antialiased sprites if they want to, right?
#406
It most certainly has!  :)

And I wasn't insulted or anything. I just wanted to clarify what I was thinking when writing the story for Frank the Farmhand, that's all.

You don't need to get rid of them. They might give it to you if you're somewhat on good footing with them.

Give the steak to fat-KKK-member and he'll let you take the ski.

I'm sorry if I upset anybody by bringing up more serious points about what some people put in their games.

Not at all, but the use of "serious" issues for me depends very much on the overall mood of the game.
For example, I thought some of the stuff, especially the racism issues, in "Frank the Farmhand" was a bit strong for my tastes. Fitting for a serious dark game, certainly, but a bit out of place in this one.
Especially
Spoiler
Ben being the constant victim of racist hatred, even going so far as to have his life threatened, didn't mesh well with the main character playing the cruel indigestion joke on him.
[close]

Oh, boy! I figured this would be happening! But not like this, though.

The reason why I put racist-stuff in my game was NOT because I'm a racist and love to make fun of black people! On the contrary!

I put the abuse of Ben into the game just because I wanted show gamers how badly black people and other minorities are treated! ElectricMonk, did you notice how much I make fun of the KKK and all the other racists who do these things to Ben? That's quite a big part of the game actually! And I personally think it's one of the funniest parts.

The points I wanted to make with the story around Ben was that the people who're in the KKK and other racists are mostly uneducated goons and rednecks!

And besides that I wanted to put a black person in some embarrassing situations (I'm referring to the toilet-incident for you who's played the game) to show that this DOESN'T neccessary mean that it's racism! I mean how many games doesn't involve treating a white person badly to get what you want? Humour must be equal! And that's my second point.

Thirdly, I don't think you should be afraid of humour, but instead use it as a tool to get important issues told! It doesn't have to be a "serious dark" game to be carrying some important stuff, it could even be better to deliver these issues with jokes.

And THAT'S what I was trying to do in Frank the Farmhand!

Hi!I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Here's a tip:

Spoiler
Getting into the professor's apartment will get you going. It's not really complicated to get in. Just use the mailslot to reach in and unlock the door. Now investigate his apartment and you'll be able to go to another location in the city.

fill the "coke can" with water. Take the fudge from the sink that is ok, and put it on the broken sink (you will find it where the crane is).

What the hell're you talking about, kinemarie8? There's no fudge in the game and you're not supposed to do anything to the broken sink.

This is how you fill the can:

Spoiler
Use the coke-can on the faucet. The faucet is on the non-broken sink

hint:
Spoiler
You can't leave the school until you've investigated what the agents're doing inside the professor's office. i.e. you need to get into the office somehow

more specific hint:
Spoiler
The officedoor's locked but there's a grate behind the cart. If you could only push the cart aside you could get into the office through that.

Thanks for reporting! It's been fixed now.

Man, I thought I had found all the errors already! Well, this really shows how good it is to have all of you!! Thanks for making Frank the Farmhand even better.
#413
I checked my code and I don't think that's a scripting error. I myself has never had that problem and many people have played the game to its end now, so they can't have had the error either.

Could you be more specific about the error? Like saying what kind of error it is and give me the error report that pops up when it happens? Have you tried it several times and has it happened more than once?

Hi. I just wanted to make a note on something:

Spoiler
I noticed someone saying that you should use the heavy bucket on the shopping bag. Well, this worked in the first version because of a bug I did. Actually using anything you have on the shoppingbag would've given the same result. The correct item to use is the knife. Just thought someone would like to know.

QuoteI got a bug and error pop up and game crashed when I tried to give coke to cleaning lady.

I can't seem to get that error when I play the game and give the coke to the cleaning lady. Is there anything else you can say about what you did to get the error?

Geeze! A lot of stupid bugs i've missed. Sorry about that. But please keep posting any you find and I'll fix them right away. I've tested the game thoroughly but as it seems some bugs I've missed.

The weenies're kept just for fun actually, but maybe they'll be needed in part 2. Who knows, right? ;)

Thanks for the feedback! It's your comments that makes it all worth it, and which will make part 2 even better (hopefully)!
#417
Oops. Sorry about that.

It's fixed now. It was when I uploaded the new version with some bugfixes that I forgot to change the permissions so that everyone can use the file.

Please try again. It'll work now.

I can just say this:

THANK YOU, CHRIS! You're just great!

The new engine helped and the game's ok now.

Thanks again.

Hi. I looked into the problem you where having and found it to be a rare bug. I've fixed it now and the download is now the new version. Sorry about that. Hope you enjoy the game though, because this bug shouldn't occur very often.
